Two great teams. Wish they were not playing each other. Hard to pick a winner. I would like to go to this game but I will be watching Sinton play probably.

I am going with Cuero in this one.

As much as my Cuero friends would like to think that this a no brainer and an easy win, you have to remember that ANYTHING can happen when these two teams play. If you think we will not show up, it may be a long night for the Mighty Cuero Gobblers. You are gonna have to beat us and it will be no small task.

I guarantee that NO ONE from Cuero is taking anyone, most importantly, the Bulldogs, lightly. Also, No one from Cuero is writing the articles in the Victoria Advocate. One of the editors lives in Yoakum not Cuero. I am sure both teams will be prepared to play and it will be a good, fair game.

Sorry late to reply on this biggy. Been on the road, seen some good ball. Burnet/Kingsville on Friday at Comalander (perfect weather), then caught Calhoun/Crosby noon in the dome. Crosby is dern good. Then, the middle game was perfect as Reagan put a late goal line stand up against Stevens and won 38-31. Sure thought some OT was coming. Night cap, Steele flexes muscle and beat Brennan 24-12. Was nice being inside, as it poured like a hurricane was outside. Driving rain was so hard, dome sprang a few leaks.

Sad to hear Victoria Memorial landed this epic "REMATCH". I assume Cuero won this flip. Rather played this one at Gobbler Stadium, then in Victoria. Least the customer service is appreciated. Regardless, it will be one packed place. I agree, neither team will take anyone for granted. No secrets who to stop here for both teams. It's who can, that will win.

Congrats to all three of D15 teams still enjoying the ride. Buckle your seat belts now, cause the ride is about to encounter the loop section.

I don't care where he lives...he bleeds Cuero green but I wasn't talking about the folks on this site. Everyone here tows the party line quite well. Cuero has a great team and DH is a big part but even he would agree that without his line, he wouldn't be having the year he's having. It burns my toast that some media try to make our teams one dimensional. We win as a team and we lose as a team. Good luck to both of these TEAMS! See everyone in Victoria

Yes, this is usually where things end for us. I can't recall a victory there since 2005 against Wharton. Someone mentioned a Edna win back in 90's I think. BD might know our record there better than me. I'd rather seen this at Gobbler Stadium. But, I think this year's bunch is out to prove they can win under any adversity, and change this Memorial Stadium matter. Powerful tool, when you play for someone other than yourself.

Lost in 2000 against Lagrange.Lost in 2001 against Wimberity. Won in 2002 against Edna Won in 2003 against Edna. Won in 2004 against Wharton. Lost in 2009 against Brookshire-Royal . Lost in 2012 against Wharton
So in last 7 times Yoakum played in Victoria they are 3-4.

Thanks bd, figured you had the downlow on this. So, we can move to .500 at Memorial L7. Truth be told, Yoakum would play this anywhere. Even the old "gravel pit", out by rodeo arena, where most these kid's began their football career. No surprises here. No long hours needed in breaking video down, and all the normal stuff staff's do in preps. Pretty simple task for both teams here, and it's no secret those tasks.

Will be well attended by both community's and those HS fan's in surrounding towns . Who ya think Mike Forman from the Cuero Advocate will be rooting for? Brent should give him, no comment when he comes a calling for his Cuero pre-game interview. Can't wait!!!!!!

Rude folks at VMS from parking lot attendants to concession workers. Been that way for year's. They could learn something from the fine folks in Sinton and Cuero for sure on how to host a playoff game. Especially as big as this one will be. Just act like your glad you have us as guest would be nice. That's my biggest issue with that place. Regards to the game, a parking lot would be ok with the players.

What happened in the first meeting that led to a win by Yoakum, and what kind of defense does Yoakum have this year that can stop DH at this juncture in the season? Let's change the verbage to "contain" DH enough to win. And can Cuero be effective passing the ball if needed?

Just a question, is it dangerous to be a gobbler and be in the playoffs this time of year? I heard they was some tough birds, but we all know what happens during this season. I'm hoping the gobblers pull it out and move on, but inquiring minds want to know?

We didn't win first game, Cuero did by 10, after Ykm was up 21-0 in 1Q. And, if you don't contain DH, you lose. So, why not state that. Yes, they can pass as well.

Yep....your district is topsy turvy alright. Yoakum beat Sinton, and Sinton beat Cuero, and Cuero beat Yoakum, maybe not in that order. But man what a spider web, lol. Which in my mind means any team is very capable of beating the other on any given night depending on how the turnovers go. So whatever Sinton did to beat Cuero may be a key to what it will take for Yoakum to win this game....would you agree with that?

Jeez - this week is creeping by slowly................ Picked up our Rivalry shirts yesterday.. new regular playoff shirts bought (for son from FLorida lol)
I was going through both of our closets and I bet I have at least 50 green playoff shirts - various sports, and 10 SHADES of green. I am old school, I want Kelly Green and White -

Reason that my son in Florida wants Gobbler shirts (besides the obvious) the school district next to where he lives is Turkey Creek ISD and their mascot is the Gobblers (Jr High school) but how ironic is that.. When he 1st moved out there (11 years ago) he was at Publix (their HEB) and happen to have a Gobbler Shirt on and this lady shopped him and asked where he bought that spirit shirt.. He said at a shop in Cuero, Texas. Then he had to explain to her why a small town in Texas was making Gobbler shirts (which she thought were for the Florida Jr High lol )

I agree completely...the depth that has been developed with some starters that have missed games over the last 6 weeks has proven to be valuable at this point of the playoffs. Hopkins rarely has to make a move in the backfield. There were some big holes last week as the Navarro coach noted after the game.

Well I waited all week to express my take on game.
I live 14 miles from Yoakum and 17 miles from Cuero
All 4 of our kids went to Yoakum. 2 boys and 2 girls and all
were active in sports . Now I have 6 grandsons in. Cuero school
dist. One played football and baseball for Cuero and graduated in 2013.
I have2 GS in junior high football and 3 in lower grades and will be
Gooblers also. I probably have seen more Cuero- Yoakum games than
most from both towns. All but maybe 2 since 1973. Old Green and some
other old timers probably more.
I seen all of Cuero home games plus game in Yoakum for a total of 6.
I seen Yoakum 5 times during yr. and 2 playoffs games for a total of 7

I think everyone at the game will have pleasure of watching 2 really good teams
do something that has not been down in modern time. Play twice in one yr.
Yoakum is very explosive with lots of speed. They can score from anywhere on field.
Cuero is also very potent on offense with in my opinion best back in Texas plus a better
passing game than Yoakum. Cuero has a better defense and that may be difference.
Having said all that when these 2 get together anything can happen and you can throw out
all these stats. I personally going to set back and enjoy 2 great teams and also enjoy the
atmosphere of an event that never happen in our
Life Time. God Bless these 2 towns that have been good neighbors for many years.
I pray no injuries.

most from both towns.

What side you sitting on, BD??? They won't let you sit in the middle of the field on the 50. I think you have a pretty good assessment of the situation though. Everything you said is accurate but no matter what the game looks like on paper, it's always a fight, a battle and for 48 minutes...we really don't like each other. Sometimes that carries over but for the most part it ends with the game. I still don't feel safe when we beat Cuero in Cuero though...not even when we hit the city limits because there is always that underpass on 183...LOL Praying for no injuries and I know it will be a hard fought game. Go DOGS!

Entertaining game, and very nice to get out and watch some football.
My Take, Mr Heights from Yoakum is one tough cookie. He got lit up, and I mean hammered, down on the goal line right in front of me. Helmet and mouthpiece go flying and I'm thinking he is not getting up; he got up.

He reminds me a little bit of a QB who played for Edan a few years ago named Kam Jones. Kam could escape from what seemed like a sure loss and turn it into a 20 yard gain. Heights does it as well, if not better.

Yoakum absolutely stacked the box against the Gobblers. Obviously the game plan was to limit Hopkins. One on one receivers with no safety help all over the field but Cuero couldn't take advantage. I'm no coach, but I would have been slinging it a lot more than what they did. I know Hopkins is a stud, but he isn't taking it to the house against good teams that put 9 in the box.

Good luck the rest of the way to Yoakum.

Cuero is damn good, and Hopkins was goal 1 through 10 tonight to limit his success. Period. They wanted to keep him under 200 and take our chances. Not sure what he ended up with. 77 rushing I think at half. As he should be our focus, if you noticed what he's done since we last played them.

Rivaly and know better. There is lots of respect for Yoakum over there. Both teams played there hearts out and was the hardest hitting game I seen in a long time. Congs to Cuero for a great season . De'Anthony Hopkins had a super season and career at Cuero. He is a class act just like his father is. I enjoyed talking football with Mr. Hopkins for the past 4 yrs. My oldest grandson

No doubt one of the hardest hitting game I've seen in many years. We tried to shoot ourselves in the foot with penalties and may have lost another 2 scores. Young Mr. Hopkins will be playing for some college squad...he's too good. Unfortunately for Cuero, he was the bulk of their offense. He's been on a roll and to "hold" him to 213 yds is a major accomplishment. I can't say enough about our crowd either...IMHO they out yelled the Cuero side and made noise when it was needed. That intangible part of the game...it not always what you can do...sometimes it's what you think you can do. SO proud of these young men...but I am always proud of our BULLDOGS...win, lose or draw.

Congrats to the bulldogs on a game well played. I think the turning point was the officials timeout (still not sure what it was about) that gave your coach time to second guess him pulling the offense off the field when it was 4th and 2 and you guys up by 2. You guys ended up going for it after about a 5 minute delay and killed our momentum when you converted and scored soon after. Go rep Dewitt county in the playoffs.

Yes, Memorial was built in 1965 to hold 10,000. Almost any venue for playoffs is a letdown as far as concessions go. They are almost always expensive and not so good.

OTOH, Congrats to the Bulldogs! What a game your team played. Throw out the paper reports and get it done on the field.

We are not getting no new stadium any time soon. Really, all is pretty nice now. They like the natural surface too. 50M last year bond pass will go for more important things and upgrades within school system. We did do a field upgrade anyways this year. What's worse? Sinton's blaring music on ears and hampering snap counts, or a laser hitting on players? Both wrong IMO. I think I have to make this one over at Farris. My welder goggles on, ear plugs in.:stirpot:

YT, Ok. Police it in house best way.

Probably some silly Jr High kid. Thought some of your fans were denying it.
Yeah, we are going to strip search all entering visitors side this time. Police what? Idiots at every game. Think I would of told police and game administrator and resumed the game. While they did a sweep, over in that section it was coming from. Cause, it stopped. No need for a hold up while they tried to find the moron doing it.

I'm with you. Delay uncalled for. One announcement that next time it is seen would result in 15 yards against Yoakum would have shut it down.

Funny, Sinton has already claimed this win. Fairly arrogant group.

HA! That is hilarious. It was ONE poster and he was RIGHT! Wimberley accusing anyone of being arrogant is HILARIOUS!!!!!! :spitlol:

We don't play music during snap counts :hand: I'm hoping Farris will let us bring music, but I doubt it.

oh and congrats Yoakum....looking forward to the rematch!

Great season Cuero. See y'all next year

Lighten up Francis.  I've been quiet but I can change that. Plenty of ammunition from years and year and years of ..... Well I won't stoop to that level. 99% of us congratulated the Bulldogs ......try winning with class instead if showing your a$$.

Wasn't my post to begin with...just answering the post that "THAT" one moment changed the game for y'all. Yes, Cuero has the lead in the series...everyone knows that. Please feel free to post every time you've beat us in the last 100 years. I saw the suspected laser person and didn't know him...and I've lived in Yoakum a LONG time...he could have been from anywhere in South Texas but he was on our side. Speak to your own fans, those 1% 'ers that you refer to...because my pants are up and so is my temp...because I don't hear the congratulations...just the excuses and insults. Here's a quote from a Gobbler fan..."Remember y'all are Gobblers and they will always just be Yoakum. If they win the next 35 years they can catch up." Sorry I guess I missed the "good game" in that comment.

I gave my opinion on what I thought changed Cuero's momentum if you think differently then post it and stop getting your panties in a wad. I also stated for Yoakum to go out and rep. Dewitt County in the next round so I guess you missed that too. The kids from both sides played their hearts out and the Bulldogs came out on top ...you and I had nothing to do with the outcome not sure why your temp is up maybe you should seek some medical attention. Good luck to both teams representing District 15 one of the top Districts in the State.

Good post Gobbler Fan.. Classy Post for sure. Some people just focus on the negative.. One post that wasn't even posted on the downlow to begin with.
Regardless of the immature comments, I hope the Bulldogs represent DeWitt county in a good, injury free game and come out with the Div II Reg IV Championship. I guarantee there will be Gobbler fans at the game, sitting on the Yoakum side, cheering them on to victory.

We are not getting no new stadium any time soon. Really, all is pretty nice now. They like the natural surface too. 50M last year bond pass will go for more important things and upgrades within school system. We did do a field upgrade anyways this year. Moved our old scoreboard from one end, to the other. We've never been concerned in keeping up with the Jones'.

Now, I will say, they need a girls softball stadium/field before anything at the football field. That's plum pitiful them girls playing on that city crap.
Really? You must not have had to help an elderly person with a walker or wheelchair into the visitors stands. Not very handicapped friendly!!

Great win for Yoakum. My hat's off to their squad and how they fought...both teams for that matter. Yoakum QB just seemed that he going to will the win as the game progressed. Super effort and congrats to D15 on representing in the regional final. I hope for a great game and no injuries.
