Volleyball State Tournament Begins Today

The Girls Volleyball State Semifinal matches will be played this afternoon. Here's the matchups of the finalists of the four regions:

Decatur(38-10) vs Robinson(39-11) @ 1 pm
Argyle(38-7) vs Liberty Hill(33-12) @ 3 pm

The matches will be played at the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland and will be webcast live online with a subscription at www.nfhsnetwork.com/associations/uil. The Saturday finals will be available by clicking www.FoxSportsSouthwest.com on the day of the event. The finals match for Class 4A will begin at 2pm on Saturday. Good luck to all these fine teams.

The AISD has managed to employ a tremendous coaching staff to work with these young people starting at an early age. This small community outside Denton is only one of many in the area around the DFW Metroplex that has become very competitive in their classification. Aledo is another. Prosper is another. Lucas Lovejoy, some of the McKinney schools and Celina. Coach O has been Argyle's only volleyball coach since the school was established about 13 seasons ago. I don't know his record offhand, but it's way on the winning side. Argyle Volleyball is known around the state to be a contender yearly. Decatur is also another state power team that has emerged in recent years.

I tend to only thoroughly keep up with baseball and football but seems like I see Argyle deep in the playoffs for every sport lol.

Argyle's #1 player Katy Keenan was out injured, as was another starter, earlier this season in that Decatur match. That will not be the case in the state final match.

How many sets did Argyle win in the earlier meeting? It's good to see everybody back at full strength for the finals, though.

I really don't know. It's all a moot point anyway now. It will be game on for both squads tomorrow at 2 pm. I believe Decatur defeated Argyle last season to get to the semifinals and then won that match to go to the finals. They defeated Big Spring in the semis and then Bellville in the finals to win State last season while the Argyle girls sat home and thought about what could have been, haha. It went to 5 sets, or tie-breaker is what it is known as. In that one it's the first team to get 15 pts....not a full game of 25 pts.

Glad to hear your game preview on this one. I would not count out the Argyle Girls in this one. They have just as much experience and team chemistry as any team in the state. It would be really nice to see Coach O finally get that elusive trophy he richly deserves for coaching the Argyle Volleyball teams over the years. This is probably his best team yet.
