Since watching the film Henderson looks kinda like Stafford to me. So I believe if The D plays good, they'll get the W. Offense should be just fine, but I am concerned about losing Tristian.( not happy about it at all). Anyway should be a great game.

If Columbia can get out in front early they have a good chance of winning. Otherwise, they have not handled pressure situations very well over the last 2 years, in fact they have failed badly in those type of games (BC, WOS, & EC)...

I believe the game is Saturday afternoon

Also, my lil' bro's on the team and he said that Tristen unfortunately tore his ACL. I guess the bright side is that he's still got another high school season to play next year. With 2 ACL tear experiences myself, I'm sure he'll be back even stronger and more pumped up to play.

Henderson has a solid team this year.... well coached, pretty good speed, decent size. Their offense is very multiple and difficult to prepare for. They run a lot of zone-read stuff with a fast RB and a very big QB (6'5"-220) who is deceptively fast. He also has a big, accurate arm. Their defense is fast and physical, but not really built to stuff the between-the-tackles power running teams. Kicker is decent. Punter is the QB and he can boom it. They like to go for 2 out of the swinging gate, and they execute it very, very well.

Henderson has a defense that's Flys to the football. The secondary isn't great but their rushing defense is. Offensively they a hard running qb that can pass very well. The recievers are exceptional. The o line could use some work but aren't bad.

I have to go with Henderson just because they were our cryptonite. What I would like to know is who is the QB that is 6'5 220lbs and deceptive speed. I have to believe with those tools the College recruiters are camping out on the street where he lives.

Zane Boles didn't look "that" big when we played them last season. He looked to be about 6'3", and around 200 lbs. He must've grown some since we saw him last. He is very talented. He has a cannon for an arm, and is deceptively fast for a big guy. If WC can keep him contained in the pocket, keep tight coverage, AND not let Henderson get their running game untracked they will have a good chance at beating them. My feeling is WC will have to put quite a few points on the board as well.

He's big. At the ETSN combine over the summer he measured in at 6'5-1/2" and 207 lbs. With a 4.7-40 and a 35-inch vertical. I don't know if anyone is recruiting him.... but somebody needs to be.

Aggie how good is Henderson really? I couldn't make the game when Carthage played them. It looks like they beat Carthage and CH about the same. Both those teams are average at best. I know Kilgore beat them, but anything goes in that game...throw it out. They played a good Atlanta team close, but Atlanta was beat pretty bad by GW. Have you seen any tape? Just stating the obvious.:D

Who knows how these teams will match up? Henderson seems to be inconsistent, playing very well one week, then playing average the next. If Henderson plays like they are capable I really don't think West Columbia will be able to match them. The thing is, Henderson is all over the place in the way they play from week to week. It's hard to gauge them.

Oh, and Alabama sucks!

Playmakers

Henderson

RB Randy Davis, Sr., 6-0, 180 (152 carries, 933 yards, 13 TDs)
LB Dalton Goode, Sr., 5-11, 205 (118 tackles, 2 for loss, 5 sacks, 11 QB pressures, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery)

DL Zach Allen, Sr., 6-1, 190 (83 tackles, 6 for loss, 3 sacks, 24 QB pressures, 2 forced fumbles)
WR/DB Trestan Ebner, Soph., 5-11, 175 (32 catches, 708 yards, 8 TDs; 68 tackles, 4 INTs)
OL Trevor Still, Sr., 5-11, 225

West Columbia

RB Dakarius Bell, Jr., 5-9, 205 (243 carries, 1,733 yards, 18 TDs)
QB Jarius Kesee, Sr., 6-4, 190 (47 of 92, 11 TDs, 2 INTs, 65 carries, 257 yards, 5 TDs)
CB Kalen Williams, Jr., 5-9, 160 (31 tackles, 4 INTs)
S Zedrick White, Jr., 5-8, 175 (62 tackles, 3 forced fumbles)

Just the facts

Henderson was picked to miss the playoffs this season and has advanced to the area round for the first time since 2012. It advanced to the regional final that season and lost to Gilmer.
West Columbia has made it to the area round the past two seasons and lost. Its most decent deep run ended with a loss to Chapel Hill in the 2011 regional finals round.
Henderson has two players with more than 100 tackles in linebackers Seth Hensley (124) and Dalton Goode (118).
Both teams lean on the run. West Columbia has more than 3,200 rushing yards to 986 passing yards. Henderson has 2,750 yards on the ground to 1,309 yards through the air.
West Columbia has a 1,000-yard rusher in junior Dakarius Bell. He has 1,733 yards and is the Roughnecks’ primary offensive weapon.
The Roughnecks’ defense is very opportunistic. It has created 33 turnovers in 11 games, an average of three per game.
Henderson will travel about 150 miles for Saturday’s game. West Columbia will drive about 84 miles.
Texan Drive Stadium will host Carthage’s game against El Campo on Friday.
West Columbia’s one loss was a decisive 48-20 game against El Campo in district play.

Key matchup: Henderson’s defensive front versus West Columbia’s run game. The Roughnecks are pretty straight forward. Dakarius Bell leads the way with 1,733 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns. Its passing game has completed 51 percent of its attempts and generated about 986 yards, just enough to make the opposing defense respect it.

If Henderson can stop Bell and a supporting cast of runners that have combined for 3,273 yards, it will be in great shape to win the game.

West Columbia will be a big test for Lions linebackers Seth Hensley and Dalton Goode. The two players lead the team in tackles and the defensive unit as a whole averages less than 18 points given up per game.

Henderson’s worst performance of the season came against Newton, 32 points allowed in a Lions win, and it kept the team within striking distance of Atlanta in a 28-24 loss. In district play, Henderson frustrated decent Carthage and Chapel Hill offenses and held Kilgore to 24 points in a 24-18 loss.

Lions quarterback Zane Boles is about a 50 percent passer and has 1,175 yards to his name through the air. Boles is a big part of Henderson’s run game with 829 yards and 13 ground touchdowns, second-best to running back Randy Davis’ 933 yards and 13 scores.

Don’t be surprised if: Saturday’s game is a nail biter. Henderson has a more well-rounded offense, but both offenses’ strengths are the ground games. Both teams’ defenses average less than 18 points per game, a very minor edge to West Columbia at 17.3 points allowed to Henderson’s 17.6.

A late defensive stop or turnover could easily define this evenly matched game.

Not as good as '10 or '11 Henderson. Probably a little better than '12. Not elite talent, but good young talent and they don 't make many mistakes. Not as good as GW, IMO.

Roughnecks head into Lions den

By JOEL LUNA joel.luna@thefacts.com | Posted: Friday, November 21, 2014 2:00 am

WEST COLUMBIA — Columbia’s road in the Class 4A Region III Division I playoffs is shaping up to be a tough march.
It starts at 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon against Henderson (9-2) at New Caney’s Texan Drive Stadium in Porter.
With possible upcoming matchups against Jasper, Navasota, Chapel Hill, El Campo or Carthage, the competition is just going to get tougher and tougher.

The Roughnecks (10-1) are coming off a 63-0 shutout of Houston Wheatley, but the Lions from Henderson are no Wheatley.

“They are coming off a tough district just like we are,” Columbia coach Randy Lynch said. “So we have to go out and play well against them.”

Henderson is coming off a 48-22 win against Silsbee in the first round of the playoffs behind 6-foot-5 quarterback Zane Boles. The senior signal-caller ran for 92 yards and two touchdowns, and he also threw for 159 yards on seven completions with two more scores.

“He is just a good quarterback who can both run and throw the ball,” Lynch said. “He has total command of that offense, but they also have some good running backs and receivers so they are very balanced. During the season we faced some quarterbacks who could throw the ball well and some who could run well, but we haven’t faced one who could do both well like Boles does. He’s probably one of the best ones we are going to face.”

One of Boles’ favorite targets is Trestan Ebner (4-113 yards, two TDs), who had a big game in the bidistrict win last week.

“We have to make sure we are lined up right on defense and go through our keys,” Lynch said. “Our defenders are going to have to break on the ball, but their offensive line is a good size. We struggled against the El Campo offensive line, but their back is a load as well. I would have to compare Henderson’s line to El Campo’s, so they are a complete package. They are a good ball club and they won state back in 2010.”

Henderson averaged 39.8 points a game this season while the Lion defense held the opposition to 17.6 points a contest.

Henderson will be facing a Roughneck defense that is giving up 226.3 yards a game through the first 11 games of the season. The Columbia defense rustled up four fumbles during last week’s win against Wheatley, which gave the Roughnecks 25 for the season.

Offensively, junior Dakarius Bell (12-107 yards, TD) continued to pile onto his season numbers (243-1733 (tel:243-1733), 17 scores) with another big day on the ground last week. Senior Malik Goins, who had a couple of scores last week, will also be utilized in the backfield as well as a target for quarterback Jarius Kesee. The versatile Goins also plays defense for Columbia.

Kesee (4-6-0, 109 passing yards, two TDs) was also a big part of the 491 total yards the Roughnecks picked up against Wheatley.

“We pushed everything back this week which gave us some time to heal up and get some things in to work on this week,” Lynch said. “We played a lot of kids last week and even got some JV kids in there to give them a taste of varsity football.”

There is a big chance there could be some rain by the time the afternoon is done in New Caney.

“I am sure we could get some but I don’t think it will have some effect on the game,” Lynch said.

This will be the first meeting between these two squads.

The winner moves onto the regional round to take on either Jasper or Stafford.

Columbia and Henderson will be broadcast on legacysportsnetwork.com (http://legacysportsnetwork.com/).

Still on for 1:30 right?

Is anyone trying to listen to the game on Legacy Sports Network?
