OH just get ready for a dog fight. The Gobblers have a '6"3 230lb Pit Bull that will fight for every yard. This should be a good one .Your sarcasm noted.

Slot-T does enable slower teams to compete but it takes HS football back 60 years IMO. Its as fun as watching paint dry.

A HUGE second round game in my opinion....the winner having a very good shot as regional champ. Regional champ is everything in the playoffs....just one game left to decide who goes to Jerryworld. I've got Cuero in my bracket defeating Sinton in the regional final, but in this region any team can beat the other on a given night. Hence the term "toss up". That's what I think about when trying to pick a winner here. I lean to the more experienced playoff school here, but that don't come to a hill of beans on the Gridiron of Glory, does it! Should be a very hard-fought battle and both teams will come in prepared to rumble. The venue for the game is fitting....Hero Stadium.

That's what I think about the spread, aka "basketball on grass" but I digress. I'd rather endure a root canal than watch two spread teams play each other.

Will be close. Try to come out healthy will be the key in this one. So, you can compete the following week. I can see a OT or two here. Best game of region.

I'm not sure if big is the best word there, tough may work better, Navarro has never been known for our size.

I'll take Navarro in a not-so-shocking upset. Navarro is on par with every good team in Cuero's district. If Sinton and Calhoun could beat Cuero, Navarro has a very very good shot to do the same. That said, I like both Navarro and Cuero. Winner could go a long way.

Dang, BOC---it's a high school football game, not a 17th century duel....but you sure talk purty, and it's good to hear a some respect for a worthy opponent expressed so eloquently--I bow to your code of honor, sir....

BTW---I think this game is one too close to call, but I'll go with Cuero because of tradition and playoff experience, and the Gobblers are hard to stop when they are on a roll....

We do respect what a Great Program they have at Cuero. We are very young this year but we have an amazing group of underclassmen who will only gain more from a battle like this. Many sophs and a Freshman DB/QB who gets better each game. Not bad considering his first QB start was against Wimberley. We were down early last year to Cuero but came back and had our chance at the end of the game!

What happened to starting QB BOC?

The QB we have starting now wasn't starting at the start of the year because he was so young, Coach Goad wanted to get him reps as a back up before handing him control of the offense.

Apaches are a common opponent for these two teams. Cuero waxed us pretty good while we were still trying to find our way with the new coaching staff. Apaches had a very competitive game with the Panthers in the rain at Geronimo. Based on that comparison, I would have to go with the Mean Green, but Panthers will compete.

Tackle #20.... Have some one Ball Hawking him the entire games. If he doesn't get the ball then tackle #21.

Cuero will pound the ball again and I suspect Mr. Hopkins will have his 250+ yards again. I have NOT seen Navarro play but I have seen Cuero. I would say Cuero by 2TDs. This is the playoffs and anything can happen but I see a rematch with Cuero and Sinton in a few weeks.

BTW my hats off to the Cuero Folks.

It is a shame one of these teams will be home after this week. smh.

Best of luck to both teams, but I'll be pulling for Cuero. They have forever cemented themselves as a friend to Sinton (off the field ;) ) I don't know how they found out about our #42, but their football team's simple show of kindness was what I love about Texas and small town HS football  :2thumbsup

What a nice post P4S. I feel the same way.. I support Sinton in all events ( unless Cuero is their opponent).

Good luck to the Pirates against Hondo...... I think y'all will win by 20

I'm torn in the Gilmer/Connally game.. I usually pull for the Buckeyes (and think they'll win) but will root for Connally too  Cuero grad (and my son's college roommate) Mike Rabe is their AD/HC and Cuero Grad, Kaeron Johnson is coaching there too. If Cuero wasn't playing, we'd be headed to Mesquite for this matchup....

Cuero (9-2) vs. Geronimo Navarro (10-1)

Want to know how many times Navarro has attempted a pass this season? Of course you do. The answer: 53 — that’s an average of about five passes per game. The Panthers are going to run the football and run it some more with running backs Anthony Grant and Jared Leal. Cuero obviously knows that, so it will be up to guys like linebacker Zech Hopkins and defensive end Colby Ebrom to really rise to the occasion. On the flip side, Navarro is as salty as the come. The Panthers give up just 12.8 points per game with linebacker Jake Wright leading the charge. But are they ready for half man, half machine Cuero running back D’Anthony Hopkins? The UTSA commit ran for more than 300 yards in the Gobblers’ blowout bi-district win over Rio Hondo. This one will be close, but Hopkins will put the team on his back and carry them to the next round.

EJ’s pick: Cuero 24, Geronimo Navarro 16

Congrats to Cuero. You guys have a great team. Thought there were a few calls that made a big difference. Navarro lost a starting LB early but that would not have changed the outcome. I am thankful they called the dogs off early if you mean by 5 minutes left in the game. We had 12 sophs and a Freshman qb and many juniors playing. Great experience and will only make the Panthers tougher the next few years! Did enjoy the 9 minute drive to start the game for a Td and they fought to the end! This game was not as close as the score. Slot T offenses just aren't gunna cut it against good teams. Coaches running that stuff at this level should realize it won't get them very far.

Corn Cob that was an ignorant comment. Coach Goad knows what he is doing, the averages almost 10 wins a season since he has been here. Slot T not successful!? *cough* Liberty Hill *cough* East Benard.
On top of that this is the youngest team Navarro has ever fielded in their Slot T era. Do a little research before making comments like that. Or don't, just watch this young team grow for the next several years, either my point will be proven.

iFootball
11-22-2014, 09:53 AM
Navarro will make deep runs the next few years. They have a very young and talented team. Their first drive was something (9 minutes off the clock). Gobbler defense looked worn down but Hopkins sparked the Gobbler team with his touchdown run and that was pretty much it. Good luck to who ever faces Navarro the next few years. This year it just wasn't enough against Cuero.

Corn Cob
11-22-2014, 10:20 AM
I stand by what I said. The Liberty Hill runs a few years back was a rarity for that type of offense at this level. The Hill was loaded back then with tremendous running backs, and more importantly, outstanding offensive lineman. East Bernard does it very well, but at a lower level of competition. I said at this level (4A). Although I stand by what I said, I will apologize for the comments, because I do think Navarro is very well coached and has developed into an outstanding football program. Good luck next year!

Lol...and we don't have a single red headed kid on the team! That's fine, we'd much rather be an under the radar region 4 tornado wreaking havoc!

HA! There is NO WAY Cuero could ever be considered or labeled an "under the radar" team LOL

Congratulations on the win! #20 putting on a show every week!

Thanks guys for the nice words about Navarro. Coach Goad has built the program to be competitive and we have the utmost respect for Cuero as well as the other teams we face. Like I stated we do have the youngest team we have ever had this year and the future does indeed look bright. Times are looking good for Navarro. I am sure we will meet down the road again in the future!

I've always been fair judgment and will respect all opponents! That being said , Navarro scared the crap out of me when we have to play them , my hat is off to this very young and talented team. Well coached as well, might I add. Heck they run that offense really good , 95% of the time I never new who had the ball. One thing is for sure , everyone knocks region 4 ! When Navarro/Cuero play in the second round with Yoakum , Sinton, and Wimberley still alive that's a pretty solid region. Good job Navarro !!!
