How about this question....is there any district out there that DOESN'T have a bulldog in it? Seems bulldog is the most popular mascot.

Most unusual mascots I've ever heard of in Texas, top five:

5. Frost Polar Bears; Polar Bears? HUH??
4. Springtown Porcupines; Why?
3. Hamlin Pied Pipers; Intimidating, ARRRGGHH
2. Killeen Kangaroos; Scary, OOOHHHHH!!!!
And #1 has got to be the most feared and deadly creature known to man:

1. THE FIGHTIN' UNICORNS OF NEW BRAUNFELS; Careful that horn is sharp!!!

There's also a school in San Antonio called the "Fightin' Buttons" though I can't remember the school

The buttons belongs to Central Catholic High School...that was started because it is run by brothers of the priests who run St Mary's and St Mary's is the Rattlers. The button being the part of the rattle snake that makes the noise. Can you imagine that mascot? Not meant to offend anyone who goes to Central C. My dad is an alumn!

One of the most interesting or wierd or funny, depending on how you look at it is the 2A Winters Blizzards. Seems appropriate with the name of the town. Even more interesting, wierd, or funny is that thier school song or fight song (can't remember which, although I think it is the fight song) is "Walkin' in a Winter Wonderland." Just my take.

How about the: Arlington Bowie Volunteers, because volunteers really scare me. There's something about people helping other people that really strikes fear in my eyes.

There's a private church school in Fredericksburg that goes through Junior High. Now most church schools have mascots like Crusaders, Friars, etc. The Fred. school is the St. Mary's Apaches. I guess they are paying tribute to the Native Americans overthrown and killed by the Spanish Catholics.

To Buckeye 80, the Killeen Kangaroos are not the only Kangaroos in the state. Besides that fact Killeen were the 1991 5a State Champions. Top three of mine are the Hippos, as previously mentioned, the Frairs, and the Daisy's. How would you like that on your football helmet?

I do not quite remember what town the Daisy's are from, I believe it was a smaller school (1a or 2a I believe). I wouldn't want to mess with them, they have flower power!

I once saw a list of the most common mascots and Eagles are the most common mascot in Texas, then Bulldogs. I forget the order of the rest of the top 5 but it included Cardinals and Longhorns. My favorites in Texas are the Robstown Cotton Pickers, Progresso Red Ants, Pearland Oilers and Winters Blizzards. Before Rice Cons existed, Garwood ISD was the Gars. That was a pretty good one in its day.

Does anyone know which mascot is the most popular or common in the state of Texas? Here's what I found on allsports: 152 Eagles, 93 Bulldogs, 79 Tigers, 67 Panthers (go LH), and 66 Lions are the top 5 in Texas. A few unusual mascots I haven't seen on here are Mesquite Skeeters, Poly Parrots, and Van Vandals. Bridgeport Brahmas is not unusual, but the girls teams are the "Sissies".

Cardinals and Longhorns are not among the top 5 most popular - Longhorns aren't even top 10. The top 5 are Eagles, Bulldogs, Panthers, Mustangs and Wildcats.
