View Full Version : RIO HONDO vs CUERO

ValleyCat

RH last played Cuero in '06,'08, and '09. Going 0-3.

It'll be a daunting task to get a dubya against Cuero, but I'd like nothing more than to see RH put Cuero on notice....heck even squeak out a dubya against the Gobblers.

Offensively, Cuero is SMASHMOUTH.(Which I like.) Cuero has dared their opponents to stop them and only two have been able to do so.

Defensively, Cuero is disciplined. Hard hitting and create TOs.

RH:

Offensively, the 'Cats have had success running the ball this season behind a sizable OL. The last few seasons the 'Cats threw the ball more than ran it.

Defensively, the 'Cats D has only given up 192yds/game.

Cuero will be an opportunity to see where the 'Cats are as a program.

Best wishes to both teams.

Cuero 41-14

Gobblers offense has picked up the pace the last two games and also their defense.
Rio Hondo has a good hard hitting defense but I see it like Jourdanton that came in with allowing just 6 points a game going into district and wasn't prepared for the speed difference of the rest of district 15 and gave up almost 40 pts per game average.

If Rio Hondo is a run team I don't see any problem with Cuero stopping them the run defense is good. I'm predicting D Hopkins will have another 200+ yard game. Cuero wins big

10-4.

I've watched film on Cuero and what I do appreciate is how well-coached y'all are on both sides of the ball. Disciplined, coupled with a strong running game. OL/DL have great technique.

All indicators do point to Cuero being hard to get passed.

My 'Cats are just gonna have to tighten up that chin strap, line up, and see where the chips fall.

Cuero is a fine ball-club, no doubt.

Vernor,Martinez,Hopkins boys make it look easy.

Hate to join the band wagon BUT...Cuero by a whole bunch to just a little for Rio Hondo. Hopkins gains another 300 yards by the third Q and then rests the entire 4th.

The 'Cats D....has played well all season. The 'Cats offense haven't had that "near perfect" game all season. TOs have hindered the 'Cats all season and that's been the achilles heel....not protecting the football.

Offensively, 'Cats gotta take what little Cuero is gonna give.....be patient, keep the chains moving, protect the football, and execute ..... Cuero's D is disciplined and are textbook at what they do.

Cuero will be a daunting task, but the 'Cats should be up for the opportunity to play the Gobble Gobbles.

Leather has multiple weapons on offense....our secondary will be tested, no question. Man coverage will only spell disaster on crucial third and longs for the 'Cat D.

Hopkins fellas, Martinez, and Vernor get the bulk of the workload, but Gobblers have capable WRs too.

It's gonna be a fine football game.

All I gotta say is the jet sweep won't work against Cuero. Geez, dem Turks have a knack for sniffing out any outside runs.

I am a HE and Sinton played solid 4 qtrs. of football against Cuero that night. You know Sinton did go very deep into the playoffs last year with many of the same starters. Sinton did beat a good Cuero team last year in the playoffs. And "had" Hopkins been in the entire game last year the out come "might" have been different.

Sinton has been banged up just like most teams. I am sure Cuero has a few starters out as well, but their main threat is Hopkins and his little brother. You contain them and you have a chance. Period!!!!

As far as being LUCKY ... I think you make your own luck. if players play to their potential they don't need luck.

I am not on that field playing either so what I say or think means nothing. I have a buddy that grew up in Cuero and plans to move back there soon I think. He and I always go back and forth with the sinton vs cuero match up. Good natured teasing.

They are in Sinton's district but I think this may have been the first year.. ? I am kinda pulling for Yokum out of the top bracket but that is just me. I did not pick Yokum to beat Cuero in my "Pick'em" brackets.

Cuero is 3-0 against RH....This is the first time in three years I see the D hit and wrap up.....previous to this season, the D was giving up 300-400yds+. Dismal was the word I'd use....the D is stout now, but did have a hard time slowing down Sinton and OG's passing game.

I know you were kidding...man. Relax.

RH faced Trent Jackson in '08 and '09?....but this group has a few players that have gone to some football camps outside the valley, and held their own. Not sure how that will translate here in the playoffs. But, the 'Cats are going to to approach Cuero as an opportunity to compete against a formidable opponent....and see where the chips fall.

RH held Sinton's high powered offense to 247 total yards and 130 yds rushing....117 yds passing. I got that from Maxpreps. (Can Sinton folks confirm?) Sinton did hold our offense to 155 total yds.

4 TOs on a short field gave Sinton an easy 28-0 lead....but that's a credit to their team for capitalizing on on our offense's miscues. The game ended 35-7.

'Cats offense will have to be an extension of our defense.

It's imperative the 'Cats offense protect the football, eliminate mental mistakes, move the chains, and keeps the Cuero offense off the field...the score could be closer than what most folks would expect....possibly a dubya. Allow me to reiterate....Cuero is a fine ball-club and they're a team that will test how much the 'Cats have improved the past three weeks. Which is why the 'Cats see Cuero more of an opportunity.

Cooper Rodgers hits Gage McCook for another TD pass now. Extra point is good. Rodgers is 9 for 9 with 163 yds. and 3 TD's.

Argyle 35
Lake Worth 0

JJ Harp owns the Argyle passing completion percentage record at 70% on the season his senior season. Rodgers is at about 62% so far this season....not too shabby. Harp qb'd for 2 full seasons on varsity. And we're talking about passing yards for Harp of well over 2000 yds.

Well....so much for this being a "competitive battle" tonite, huh? I do have Cuero going deep in my playoffs bracket, though.

O well, there's still a 2nd half to be played. Hopefully the 'Cats can make it respectable. GO 'CATS!

The "one dimensional" (sarcasm firmly planted) Gobblers are mixing it up with some pass plays. Dang, wish I was there so I could give credit to receivers. Did hear Jarred Edwards and Cam Mathis on receptions. 55-7 late in 3rd qtr

A lot of solid green helmets in the game. JV and freshman players in for most of the second half.
