Three running backs from the area went past the 200-yard mark over the weekend, but the front lines made it possible for those backs to get through some holes to gain yardage.

On a beautiful Saturday at Veterans Memorial District Stadium in League City, Brazoswood’s La’Wayne Ross pounded out 224 yards on 36 big carries.

Ross went five yards or more on 17 of those carries, with his biggest jaunt going for 33. On many of those carries, Ross had wide open holes courtesy of left tackle senior, Caleb James (240 pounds), left guard senior, Corey Shields (233), junior center Colby Brignac (270), right guard junior Alex Pina (270) and right tackle senior, Ford O’Brien (270).

One of Ross’s best efforts came on the Bucs final touchdown, when he punched it in from four yards out. Ross lost his balance when he hit the line of scrimmage but some how managed to stay on his feet to end up in the end zone.

In another fabulous effort, Columbia Roughneck junior Dakarius Bell went for 210 yards on 33 carries. It was Bell’s third game to go past the 200-yard mark this season.

Doing the blocking up front for Bell were left tackle junior Tristen Vasquez (195), left guard junior Mason Durham (170), center senior Justin Hampson (255), right guard junior Tristin Reeves (210), right tackle junior Marcus Farris (240) and co-tight ends, junior Steve Perkins (190) and sophomore Justin Pugh (175).

One more runner who eclipsed the 200-yard mark was Brazosport junior quarterback Navontae Darthard (17-207 yards). One of those carries for Darthard went for 71 yards and a score against Needville.

Up front doing the blocking for the speedy signal caller were left tackle sophomore Victor Gueverra (260), left guard senior Bryce Wilds (315), center junior Mark Contreras (250, right guard) senior Austin Closs (300) and right tackle senior Adrian Aluiso (210).
