What does everyone think will happen in this new rivalry between the Cards and Eagles? The eagles have won the last two in Bridge city but BC won the last time they played in Newton.

The eagles are gonna be tough. Us winning at Newton shows that whoever wants to win the most, will. Our guys are gonna give them a fight to the finish. Being a young team is a disadvantage right now, but the future's looking bright. wink

Even though I never go against my Cardinals, I can only hope this best for them on this one. Newton is AGAIN tough this year.

If it doesn't flood this week, I don't see a problem with mud. There was no mud problem this Friday. No mosquitoes either. If I remember correctly last year at BC there was a lot of water and skeeters. Drive safely coming up. We're looking forward to a good game.

BC looked a little flat against Newton last year. Look for them to be ready to play this year. However, I have to pull for the Eagles. They have the coaching and talent to go far. Anyway you look at it, feathers will fly. wink

I don't think mud or rain will slow down the eagles. It doesn't really matter what the weather does the eagles will be ready. The eagles are looking forward to a good competitive game with BC.

Does anyone know where the stats from the Newton/Alphonso game are?

Well Newton has started out in typical form being that they have destroyed their competition so far, But One thing to look at is that Newton has not played anyone yet and BC has played some tough competition almost handing a good Liberty team a lose. If this game was in BC I would predict a shocker , but since it is in Newton I would say the Eagles by 14. BC is improving and if Newton takes them lightly BC will win. Goodluck to both teams should be a good game.

Our boys getting hungry for a win. If they play like they did against Liberty, anything could happen. Good look to my friends on the Hill this week.

RBARKER, I can assure you that Newton will not be taking BC lightly. I have to agree with you about their schedule though. The problem is that Newton has a hard time getting quality games with big schools. Curtis will play anybody, anywhere, anytime. Newton by 14.

Newton's defense is better this year than last and BC's offense has not impressed me. I'm predicting Newton in a shutout. Newton 35 - BC 0.

Last week off for BC should give them some extra time to prepare for the Eagles. I respect BC because they have play hard the last couple of years. But to their misfortune, I believe the reign of Newton terror on BC will continue this year. I wish friday was tommorow.

Last year the field was wet and muddy. Newton won 21-0 but it should/could have been worse because no one could get their footing. Newton is better this year and from what I read, BC is not as good as last year but are formidable as always. It may be a long time before anyone scores on the Eagles.

Newton 28
Bridge City 0

Newton's looked better this year than in the past several years that I can remember. Great defense. I'll take Newton by 17.

Bridge City will score but the game will still be won by Newton. They have a tough Defense and a offense that can score when they need to.

Newton has 18 quality seasoned Seniors and Bridge City has almost no returning starters-remember its a rebuilding year for BC. This 4th game of the year is about when Newton peaks, each year, and then they lose to Marlin after they have been hobbled and hurt though the course of the season. Well they are rightfully ranked as high as 5 in the State; but this year it's different; they have enough of a bench and playing depth, to sustain them in the playoffs. They will beat Marlin big this year..If they don't win State this year, they probably never will, in the foreseeable future. I am excited that Bridge City's very young team will have the opportunity to play Newton, at their best. If B.C. has a prayer to make the Playoffs, they need to face these good-highly rated type teams... Everyone else in 3A dodges a game with Newton, if possible; because of the cat-calls and foul comments, because Newton is one of only a couple of low-enrollment schools that can continue to excel in 3A football...Curtis Barbay is filling the news print, down here, with continued proclaimations that Newton has the fastest backfield in 3A this year; and they are quite swift. By all rights, Newton should win big: but this is again an opportunity for BC's young kids to grow up quickly and try to secure one of the 21-3A spots, a little later. BC, if they can hold their composure and not get too discouraged, will train a bunch of young kiddo's this year and be ready to play with anyone next season....

Of the 18 seasoned seniors that we have, only 3
are on defense.

Newton 45
Bridge City 0

You really shouldn't give those boys from Newton any bulletin board material. I will be very surprised is BC scores.

OLDREF

I have seen both teams this year and if Coach Barbay says he has the fastest backfield in 3A, that means he has the fastest backs in 3A.....

Pick
Newton 65
BC 0

Correction
Coach Barbay has too much class to score that many points on an unworthy opponent.

Newton 42
BC 0

Stipes are slimming.

To Compudyne: I think that you misread this post, the "cat calls and foul comments" that I am talking about came from posters last year, on this board, and has nothing to do with the Newton players. They seem to have good sportsmanship... I will be pulling for both BC and Newton when they enter the Post season just as I do every year.

Old cardinal: CORRECTION Newton has 12 Seniors, 14 juniors, and 8 sophmores. I respect how BC plays hard so I hate to see this happen to them but it will be ugly friday. Newton BIG

once again the old card has talked using big words spoken directly from the hole on the posterior of his anatomical makeup. hows that for polite. I am sick of hearing how young B.C. is and how seasoned Newton is. I predict that b c will see plenty of the reserves from Newton after the first half.Newton has 12 seniors and b c has 7. That is terrible for a school the size of bc. Just get ready for friday night cause the Pain Train is coming! WHOOOOO-WHOOOOOO!!!!

Old Card it sounds like you are concedeing the season already and that is not like you. BC always plays hard wnd will likely go several rounds into the playoffs, which will be good experience for a young team. But I will have to go with Newton at this time by at least 21.

ALLSPORTSGUY
09-16-2003, 02:38 PM
I don't think anyone has told the young BC football team they shouldn't be on that field come Friday at 7:30. I can only garrantee one thing they will be giving 100% effort from kick off to final buzzer. Thats all a fan can ask for in a team. It kills me about this board if a person talks positive about a win its trash talking if you down play your team its making excuses and whinning kind of confusing if you ask me. May we have a injury free game SPHINX!

Old Cardinal

To Allsportsguy: That the way its always been with the caustic comments, with a few of the younger ones on this board... Always has been, and I guess it always will be---I totally agree with you; however, if the kids give their all and play their hearts out: I support any team that does that. Inexperience usually comes into play and crucial mistakes can multiply because of that inexperience. That's what causes a host of first year starter teams, to have to work so hard before they can compete effectively in the Playoffs. Being an effective Playoff team is all that counts in this final arena anyway. Taking a few lumps, on the way, is typical for even the final State Champions. I sure hope both of these teams can go 2 or 3 rounds in the Playoffs this year.

It almost scares me that so many people are picking Newton by such large margins of victory. It could get ugly, but you never know what will happen on the field. Just ask all the Longhorn fans about that! With that said, I pick Newton by at least three touchdowns.

Hey sportsguy, I say support your team through it all, but don't make excuses.for the past two years I have heard old card talk about the sophmore sensation, the difference in life styles and economic status and mentality of Newton and bc. Basically trying to say that the bc people are superior to the Newton people and I'm sick of it. Most bc fans on this board are very supportive of their team and polite at the same time. I hope the SEASONED SENIORS and the KIDDOS have a great game, with great sportsmanship and respect for one another. I know the Newton athletes read the posts on downlow and the posts from old card just fire them up more. So old card you can privately investigate deez! I hope your in Newton friday to support bc.

Well, it's Thursday night even up here in the woods. Tomorrow is the game. You folks from BC (even, or especially Old Card} be careful and have a safe trip. Let's just pray for a good game and no injuries. We won't all go home happy, but let's go home friends and root for these two teams as far as they can go. For the last couple of years, that's been a respctable distance. Welcome to our house. Mi casa, su casa. wink
