To allow the opposing team to score quickly, allowing his team another opportunity to scor, and go for two. If they stay on the field and make it difficult, too much time is used, and perhaps run completely out of time.

Looks like he wanted the other team to score rather than run the clock out so his team could have a chance to score a TD (which they did) and go for 2 and tie (which they did not concert). Better than letting the other team run the clock out.... Which is why the opposing coach wanted his qb to kneel at the 1...

After watching the film, I think a Texas team would be smart enough to not play in their hands. QB should have gone 10 yds and taken a knee.

I remember the 1987 Regional game between Cy-Fair and North Mesquite where Cy-Fair purposely allowed North Mesquite to score late in the 4th so that they would have time to score right back and they did and won and advanced in a 28-28 tie (winning 6-5 on penetrations). That game got voted game of the decade for the '80s by DCTF.

Gilmer did that last year against Kilgore. It didn't work out for us.
