The Bellville Brahmas rallied from a 30-17 deficit late in the fourth quarter with two touchdowns to take a 31-30 victory over Wharton at Tiger Stadium on Friday night.

The comeback started after the Tigers turned the ball over on downs at the Brahma 39.

Two plays later, J.T. Marek picked up 6 yards on second and 10 to the 45 and added another 5 yards on the next play, giving the Brahmas a first down at midfield.

The Tigers were flagged on the next play for pass interference, moving the ball to the Tiger 40.

The Brahmas drove to the Tiger 3 where Marek ran the ball in for the touchdown. Easton Higgins’ extra point was good, making the score 30-24 with 5:05 left.

The Brahmas recovered an onsides kick, giving them the ball at the Tiger 38.

Two plays later, Marek picked up 15 yards, but he fumbled the ball. Kemaad Jones recovered for the Tigers at the 11.

On the Tigers’ next drive, De’Eddrick Graves intercepted a pass, giving the Brahmas the ball at the Tiger 18. Four plays later, Graves ran the ball in from 8 yards out.

Dontay Bell returned the ensuing kick to the 41, and on the next play, Chris Green picked up one yard to the 42.

After an incomplete pass, Green hit B.J. Baylor for 16 yards to the Brahma 42.

Green then connected with Dontay Bell on consecutive plays for 8 yards each to the Brahma 26. After an incomplete pass on the next play, the Tigers were called for a false start, moving the ball to the 31.

Green connected with Bell again on the next play to the Brahma 18 with only four seconds left on the clock. Guyver Cano missed a 35-yard field goal attempt as time expired, leaving the score 31-30.

The Brahmas got on the board first after a long drive as Brady Zapalac connected with Blake Streider from 12 yards out for a touchdown. Higgins added the extra point, making the score 7-0 with 6:24 left in the first quarter.

The Tigers cut into the Brahma lead on their first drive of the game after they started at their own 44. Joseph Krenek connected with Bell for four yards to the 48 and then connected with Ashton Branch for seven yards to the Brahma 45.

Dontre Elliott picked up 4 yards on the next play to the 41, and then Krenek hit Green for 39 yards to the Brahma 2.

Two plays later, Krenek ran the ball in from 1 yard out. The extra point was no good, making the score 7-6 with 4:21 left in the first quarter.

Graves ran the ball in from 8 yards out on the Brahmas’ next drive, and Higgins’ extra point made the score 14-6 with 45 seconds left in the first quarter.

The Tigers started their next drive at their own 34, and on the first play of the drive, Krenek connected with Baylor for 12 yards to the 46. Baylor added a 30 yard run on the next play to the Brahma 24.

Four plays later, Krenek connected with Green from 23 yards out for a touchdown. Krenek connected with Bell for the 2-point conversion making the score 14-14 with 10:02 left in the first half.

The Brahmas were able to regain the lead on the next drive as Higgins made a 28-yard field goal, making the score 17-14 with 7:40 left in the half.

The Tigers took the lead as Baylor returned the ensuing kick 77 yards for a touchdown. Cano’s extra point made the score 21-17 with 7:27 left in the half.

The Brahmas were forced to punt on their next drive, and the Tigers took over at midfield.

The Tigers drove to the Brahma 10 but were forced to settle for a 27-yard field goal by Cano, making the score 24-17 with 2:08 left in the half.

Baylor added to the Tigers lead late in the third quarter with a 44-yard touchdown run.The 2-point conversion attempt was no good leaving the score 30-17 with 31 seconds left in the third.

Krenek completed 10 of 12 passes for 127 yards and Green seven of 18 passes for 72 yards.

Green led the team in receiving with four receptions for 88 yards, and Bell caught seven passes for 58 yards.

Baylor led the team in rushing with 107 yards on 9 carries.

The Tigers, now 5-3 on the season and 1-1 in district play, travel to Brookshire to take on winless Royal who is 0-1 in district play after having this week off. The Falcons lost to Bellville 49-0 in their district opener.
