at BAY CITY BLACKCATS (0-1, 0-6)

7:30 p.m. Friday

at Blackcat Stadium

OVERVIEW: In a six-team district, the Exporters are looking for a win, and this could be a big opportunity to get one. Brazosport put up a fight against Columbia last week but could not sustain the onslaught of the Roughnecks. This week, Brazosport’s effort will be critical against the Blackcats. Both teams rank at the bottom in offensive, with the Ships averaging 215.3 yards a game to Bay City’s 161.8. Last week, Brazosport put the ball on the ground eight times, losing three fumbles. For the season, the Exporters have lost 14 of 34 fumbles. Junior quarterback Navontae Darthard and senior Nathan Lewis (60-335, 5.58 per carry, five TDs) are the Ships’ two top runners. Darthard, who took over under center three weeks into the season, has passed for 62 yards on just eight completions.

The Blackcats are led by senior quarterback Zavian Gartica (48-for-95-7, 389 passing, two TDs), whose big throws have gone to Ge’Rod Allen (9-192 yards, 21.33 yards per catch, TD). Gartica (54-155 yards, 2.87 per carry, five TDs) is also the second-leading runner on the team behind Sam Fisher (59-157, 2.66 per carry, TD). Brazosport and Bay City are meeting for the 63rd time, with the Blackcats leading the series, 40-20-2. But the Exporters have won the last two meetings, including last year’s 52-34 win.
