I guess scheduling these games that far ahead of time has its pitfalls, huh? Don't make much sense...the way high school football can change each year.

I can't speak for Carthage, but I wouldn't put much stock into Kilgore's 2-4 record.

We lost to 5A Nacogdoches on a FG as time expired. They are 5-1 with a quality win over a top 5 5A Lufkin team a few weeks ago. Nac has an enrollment of 1800. Their only loss is to Ennis.

We lost 51-50 to a CC-Flour Bluff team that is undefeated and ranked #7 in 5A. FB has an enrollment of 1800.

We lost 19-13 in triple OT to a 5A Texas High team that is 4-2. Texas High has an enrollment of 1981.

We lost 25-21 to a Gladewater team that is 5-1 and ranked #9 in 4A. Their only loss was to an undefeated private school from LA.

Have we let some games slip away? Yes. Are we a bad football team? Not hardly.

I'm glad Kilgore is in Region 3 D1 this season....they would be a force in Region 2. In fact, they will be a force in Region 3, imo. Nothing wrong with the losses Kilgore has had so far....probably made the team better and helped the coaches spot some areas that need to be shored up. They could actually be called a "dark horse" contender to win that region without flinching or grinning....just dead serious.:crazy1:

Kilgore was up 21-4 on Gladewater in the 3rd before Gladewater reeled off 3 straight TD's.

The back-to-back safeties they gave up (4 pts) to GW took all the wind out of their sails.

Kilgore was able to recover a fumble and run it back for a TD though to regain momentum. But it was all Gladewater after that.

This season has become laughable for me. We come into last night's game with a 4th string center and a 3rd string guard ....... and then the QB breaks his collarbone. Start looking around for the backup QB and he's in blue jeans with a big pink cast on his right arm (broke it in practice, evidently). Third string QB has never played the position before. We're toast.

Carthage and Kilgore will both be back playing at a very high level very soon. Maybe not this season, but it will happen. Both made it to the semi-finals, and then to the state game the following year. Both had most of the same players playing on both those teams. You can reload, but when the bar is set that high it makes it difficult to achieve those results every year.
