Now Pud, we've had this discussion for several years now.... As far as AP and numerous folks are concerned, there is nothing south of IH 10. Therefore, Cuero, El Campo nor Columbia are even a consideration. 😜

Ok, lets try to make this easy for you.

Those teams that Carthage have played thus far are pretty much the same teams that Carthage plays every year for the most. In a normal year, Carthage beats those teams without a doubt. This year, not so much. Why do you feel that Carthage is better than Liberty Hill and La Vernia? Could those teams that have beaten Carthage be that much improved? Yes, but not that improved, IMO. Is Carthage having a down year? Yes, those who follow Carthage have pointed that out some time ago.

I'm trying to understand why you keep bringing Carthage up..?

If Carthage played a cupcake schedule in pre-district we could very easily be 5-2 or something like that. Then you would have a bunch of guys mouthing about a team that would no matter their record be a shell of Carthage since 2007. Hemotoxic I will say that up to this point Carthage has played probably the toughest schedule out of any Class 4a team. Kilgore has played a pretty tough schedule too. Even in Carthage's dominant years we have been known to drop a game or two to schools with bigger classifications. I know we are not doing anything that other 4a schools don't do, but when you are consistently pushing weight on the schedule with schools 2 or 3 times your enrollment you are going to drop a few on the way. Even in Carthage best years we would have had atleast one loss, and maybe two with this years schedule. IMO our best team (most complete) was in 2010 when we beat BW. That team got embarrassed by CH early in the season, and dropped another game to Nac. Difference this year and previous years, is we would be playing in about 4th gear right now, ready to switch to OD in the coming weeks. This is not the case this year. We have not improved since the start of the season IMO.

Guys we are already playing for next season to a certain extent. We can't win very many playoff games with Freshman and Sophomores. This is the first year since Surratt has been here that we do not have D1 athletes in the senior class. On average we have had atleast 5 or 6 future D1 athletes on each of these championship teams. There is no Dwight Smith, Si Blackshire, Jon Jones, Kendall Thompson, Anthony Morgan, Ed Pope, Shun Williams, Jalen Claiborne, Blake Bogenschutz, O Rutherford, or Tee Goree (Not to mention a ton of other players who would be superstars on this team) all of the sudden appear and we are better. Is Surrat one of the best coaches in the state at the 4a level? Yes, I think he is. Has he been blessed with awesome athletes? Yes, for 100% most years our team have better athletes than the opposing teams. Plain and simple. I have been watching Carthage football along time. if Surratt would have been in Carthage we would have been winning Ships along time ago. We are blessed with a good gene pool. We can't stay down that long. It is just a fact. This year is not our year. I am confident that this group of Freshman and Sophomores are going to be special in a couple of years. Next year we could struggle again. End of story. In 2016 we will win another ship. The athletes are there, and hopefully the coaching will still be too. That's right i just crowned the 2016 D1 State Champs. Prolly go back to back 2016 and 2017.

Yes they have had a tough schedule. And, if Carthage gets in the playoffs and goes several rounds, that wouldn't surprise me one bit. I think that for many, it's a shock because we haven't seen the Bulldogs down in years. As you pointed out, like in 2010, you guys managed to turn it around and win state.

Carthage has only held one opponent to less than 30 and have given up exactly twice as many as they have scored. It's not like they have been losing nail biters. Tough schedule or not, they simply aren't very good. It happens to all good programs from time to time. Think I'll save my Kleenex for another time.

Exactly. We haven't even been competitive in most of our games with the exception of Lindale (obviously), 1st half of Nac, and some of the GW game. Yes, save the kleenex. If any Carthage fans want to cry, than they can go to the field house and cry in front of the trophy case.

Right, it wouldn't surprise me if we make it a couple of rounds deep based on competition. With 4 teams from each district, and the split in DI and DII the playoffs are very watered down. We should not make the playoffs. This is a prime example why taking 4 teams, and IMO the split is bad for TXHSFB. On another note, if yall get the chance for revenge I will be there cheering on the Dawgs win, lose, or draw. I might be doing a little cussing on the way, but I will support them no matter what. I would imagine it would be a far worse beating than we gave yall last year. I hope to see Navasota playing in Jerry's world this season. I would love to see yall BTHO Ville!
