Needville gave up a whopping 600 yrds of offense to El Campo. No telling how much the Columbia rushing machine could produce against them. Even Columbia's backup RB's are good. Another long night for Needville. At least they get the two toughest teams out of the way early...

Bport is severely one dimensional, they dont have any passing threat at all. Hugh linemen but they didn't do much. Bport scroed on their 1st two drives, mostly due to poor tackling on Columbia's part after a bye week. After that they didn't get squat. They do have a couple of guys that can fly, but make the initial tackle and they can be controlled on offense. Their defense is bad. Columbia scored on every drive except the 1st & last one. The RB's ran right through them, even picking up 3-4 yards after contact was finally made. Only tried two passes all night.
Bay City just looks bad all around. Any offense with a pulse is scoring on them. That should be the Jays chance to pick up a district win...

Needville had a chance to stay in the El Campo game early. Twice they drove deep into El Campo territory but did not score. They also missed on a couple of interceptions. Once El Campo got up early the game was over. The Jays are going to have to tackle better. Columbia has a running back just like Dove. If they do not tackle any better than last week it is going to be another 50 point night.

I am not sure about speed but he has the size. He went for 3 touchdowns against the Jays last year. We moved the ball against Columbia well last year. When I saw there defense this year they were much improved.

Dakarius Bell. He's got more than 1000 yards and about 10 tds in 6 games. Not quite as tall as dove, but he's good.

Gonna be a lot of running goin on when EC and WC meet. We have Dove 820 yds. with an 8.2 avg. Harris 720 with an 8.8 and our QB has 305 with a 7.5 avg. If we both get by Stafford that could be a huge game. Getting by Stafford wont be easy though.

Columbia should not look past Needville

WEST COLUMBIA — Expecting the unexpected is what high school football in Texas can mean.

For the Columbia Roughnecks (1-0, 6-0), who head to Needville (0-1, 2-4) for a District 12-4A Division I contest at 7:30 p.m. today at Bluejay Stadium, surprises can come in all forms.

Columbia’s unbeaten season continued after last week’s 51-13 pasting of Brazosport, while the Bluejays started district on a bad note, dropping a 51-0 game to El Campo.

Needville will go up against the No. 2 offense (388.3 yards per game) in district and the No. 1 defense (150.7 yards allowed per game).

The Roughecks feature a run attack that has garnered 1,746 yards out of their 2,330 total offensive yards for the season. Junior Dakarius Bell (142-1,022 yards, 7.20 per carry, 10 TDs) is Columbia’s go-to guy when yards are needed.

Senior quarterback Jarius Kesee (36-62-2, 584 passing yards, four TDs) has completed 58 percent of his passes for the year. One of Kesee’s targets is Caylon Fletcher, who has six catches for 60 yards and a touchdown.

Columbia’s defense has allowed just 904 yards for the year, including 665 by the ground and 239 through the air. The ’Neck defenders have allowed just 66 points for the season.

Junior Kalen Wiliams is one of the top defenders with four interceptions so far.

The Roughnecks and Bluejays played their first contest in 1996, with Columbia pulling out a 14-12 win that season. There have been two shutouts (2011, 56-0; 2012, 28-0) both in favor of Columbia.

The ’Necks won last year’s encounter (33-21) and lead the series, 9-6.

Needville comes into Bluejay Stadium averaging 288.7 offensive yards while giving up 442.2 a contest.

A bright spot for the Bluejays is sophomore quarterback Logan Archer (42-83-7, 758 passing yards, seven TDs) who leads the district in passing. Senior Mason Wheeler (16-389 yards, 24.31 yards per reception, four TDs) is Archer’s leading pass-catcher.

Needville’s top runner is Dedrick Ketchum (133-631 yards, 4.74 per carry, six TDs). The Bluejays have put the ball on the ground 22 times this season, losing five of them.

Have to give Needville credit, they were not intimidated at all. There was a hole in the defensive line, & they attacked it successfully. Didn't complete many passes, but the ones they did complete were back breakers. They even contained Bell. But Goins destroyed them petty much at will. Goins stats:
Rushes 8-141 1 TD & 3 catches 140 2 Tds. So 11 touches, 281 yards & 3 Tds.
Also had a nice night for Richard Hooper. 3 catches for 83 yards 1 Td. Showed the coaches he can be more than a decoy.
Heck, if nothing else the stands were rockin' on both sides. Kinda fun for a change...

If Needville plays like they did tonight, especially the no tournovers stat, I really believe they can beat Bport, as they only have a couple of good players. Do that and they have a shot at stealing a playoff spot...

Those kind of stinkers pop up for most teams somewhere along the way. "wake up call" Probably hits the nail on the head and didn't come any too soon for the Roughnecks with division 1 district 12 matchup #2 at your place next week. Stafford is the real deal and I'm not sure if the Birds softened them up for you guys or just made them mad. I'd bet on mad ,so get ready and good luck. See you in about three weeks.

I didn't get to go to this one and I just had to investigate the "explosion" of the Needville offense. Looking at the Houston Chronicle online, it appears that the RB (Ketchum) hasn't ANY stats listed in the two blowout losses to Wharton(85-0) and El Campo(51-0). In every other game this kid has played, he has almost averaged over 200/game! Not to say that the Jays would have won either of those contests, but I don't think they would have been blanked either. Any Needville folks out there that know whether or not he played in those two stinkers?

He played in those games. Those games where just bad games for the Jays. After the Wharton game is when they started to turn it around. The Jays offense played well the first quarter against El Campo but got stopped at the Ricebird 1 and 20. Then the game got away from them. That running back is a junior. The quarterback is a sophomore.

Its a winnable game if Needville plays like they did in the 1st qtr against Columbia. Bport doesn't have much of anything, severely one dimensional on offense & not good on defense either. Good enough to beat Bay City, but gave up 30, and BC stinks on offense...Jeremiah Credit is a blazer though, so don't kick it to him. He has 3 td returns this year...
