I like Yoakum here. But, it will be close and I can't help but think, a little peeking a week ahead when LG smashed them. They know what Hopkins is capable of, and seem to have controlled him in the past.

Yoakum 27
Cuero 21

Like to. But, I have a safety meeting Friday up that way till 5PM. And, not sure we'll have any more issues with opponents till a few rounds deep. So, like to see some other contest's in area. I'll sit on Cuero side YT. No fear of bad luck bud.:spitlol:

That's the question...we have started slow the past 3 weeks...good teams will jump on that and not let you back up. BUT...this is Cuero and if you can't get excited about this game, they should have buried you a week ago. Yoakum by a TD

Yoakum ended Cuero's unbeaten district streak four years ago. Yoakum routed Cuero last year in Yoakum. D. Hopkins has not won a varsity game against Yoakum. Yoakum has tons of talented athletes. Game is being played in Yoakum. Most people are picking Yoakum over Cuero. Sounds like Cuero is the underdog here. I'm going with Cuero in a close game. Don't think Cuero and Hopkins will lose four in a row to Yoakum. Cuero's offense is clicking and Hopkins is a beast when he gets going.

With "17 back Cuero has a dangerous deep threat along with"2.
The QB does a good job in passing game. Hopkins looks back to
100 percent and you got to stop him early because of his power and speed.
Yoakum with Hights and a couple of other backs can score from
anywhere on field. It will be a highly emotional game for both team.
Yoakum has chance to beat them 4 yrs in row for first time probably
in history and these Cuero Srs. have there last chance to beat Yoakum
I seen Cuero 3 times and Yoakum twice this year and it's going to be a
good one. Fun game to watch.

Cuero has much to prove this week as they all start to count this Friday. Everyone knows the weapons on offense that those Gobblers have (D Hopkins, Martinez, LaFond, Miles, Edwards, Diebel, QB Vernor) but not much is said of the defense that has played great and have been without Z Hopkins the last 2.5 games who was all state 3rd team LB as a soph last season. He'll be back this week. This defense is one of the fastest I've seen in a good while....but like I said, we have much to prove. Those formidable Bulldogs to the north are nothing to make light of right now. There's a ton of pride there with a ton of talent. I can't wait for Friday night! :cheerl:

The Yoakum Bulldogs and Cuero Gobblers renew their rivalry this Friday night in Yoakum, as the teams meet for the 104th time in what is known as one of the longest rivalry in the State of Texas.
Cuero owns a commanding 66-31-6 record over Yoakum in the long series, but it’s the Bulldogs who have claimed the last three meetings, including a 41-20 victory last season. The ‘Dogs ended a 9-game losing streak to Cuero with a 25-21 victory in 2011. It also ended the Gobbler’s 42-game district winning streak.
The last time Yoakum defeated Cuero four times in a row was way back in the 40’s when the ‘Dogs won 7-0 in 1943, 7-6 in 1944, 21-6 in 1945 and 6-0 in 1946. That is the only 4-game winning streak that Yoakum has over Cuero in the series.

I smell turkey for dinner in Oct. for the Bulldogs. I believe this game will be decided late in the 4th in a back and forth lead change type of affair, with Yoakum coming out on top by 7 pts. or less. I'm guessing Hights will do something late to be the difference maker.

No one wants to start the trash talk for fear that it will motivate the other team...hate to tell ya but if they need to hear trash to motivate them then there is a problem...this is homecoming, playoffs, and prom all rolled up into one. Winner claims bragging rights for another year...it's all about "what have you done for me lately". You can talk about the past but Friday is all there is...we have won lately but that means exactly squat...Cuero has a huge overall lead, again doesn't mean squat. Who wants it more??? Only Friday night lights will tell...Go DOGS!!!

Not much on board about this game but I know the buzz
in both towns is allways heavy this week . I was at Cuero-
Giddings game last Friday and when they heard HT Yoakum
LG game everyone around me said doesn't matter about
that game Yoakum will play lights out against Cuero. I know
Cuero kids are really motivated to end the 3 game streak. Especially
Srs who have never beat Yoakum.
Most these kids know and respect each other.Thats what makes
this a special game.

I think will down to last few minutes. Could go either way because
these teams are so close talent wise and also Sr. Leadership.
Cuero Srs have last chance to beat Yoakum . Cuero has played
more consistent this yr. and that may be difference
But in a Cuero-Yoakum game you can throw all past games
out the window. Look at last yr game . Who would have thought
Yoakum would have won by 21 points.

There's a big game down the way in Goliad tonite as well. Goliad is hosting Hallettsville in a clash in the DQ Game of the Week. My brother will be there with his son, who lives in Goliad County. So there are TWO BIG GAMES going on in the area tonite....one in Class 4A and one in Class 3A. Good luck to Yoakum and Goliad....that's who I'm rooting for in each. Of course, I'm a Goliad Tiger alum from the 70's, so I'm particularly interested in that one. The Bulldogs will need to play their "A" game tonite for the win, as will Goliad. The Gobblers and the Brahmas of Hallettsville are both very good squads with a possible district title looming in the outcomes tonite. Very similar circumstances in these two games tonite. Has Cuero or Yoakum ever sponsored the DQ GOTW? Goliad is said to be sold out and SRO(standing room only) for tonite's contest. I'm sure it will be the same at Yoakum. What a night for football in the area. GO TIGERS, GET EM BULLDOGS!!!

What a night for football in the area. GO TIGERS, GET EM BULLDOGS!!!

PS>>>>I guess I'm on the "dark horse" bandwagon tonite, lol.

The DQ GOTW was held here in Cuero 2 years ago as we hosted Yoakum. It's starting to near game time here in DeWitt County and enjoy some the best football in STX tonight! Go Fightin' Gobblers!

One of the best Cuero/Yoakum games I've seen.

Very classy on Yoakum for coming to the Cuero side and show respect for the Cuero school song after the game. Hats off to a great coaching staff and players.

Congs Cuero for a great game. Lots of poise to come back
from being down 21-0. Both teams fought hard and tied 27-27
start of 4th. Hopkins was a beast with 350 plus yds and "10 for Yoakum had all
5 TD for Yoakum. Cuero did a great job on Hights and won
the turnover battle. Yoakum 4 TO - Cuero none.

This must have been a great game to watch. Yoakum took it to Cuero early but the Gobblers just wore them down I guess. Congratulations to Cuero for a big win and hats off to Yoakum for giving the Gobblers a run for their money.

Great game like I said not this year #10 had the game of his life for the Dogs D Hopkins is a monster Great game Gobblers had the ball like 35 min and they did lose the on side kick not sure if that counts as a turnover.

Awesome job Cuero! Heck of a game! I knew Coach K would have the Dogs ready. He always does! One question though why do they turn off the score board so quick after a loss? That is embarrassing! The radio announcers didn't even know if they had the final score right because it was off 30 seconds after the clock reached 000...

Gobblers were able to hold Hights to 54 rushing yards with the Dogs only scoring 13 after first period.

Yoakum has Sinton in Sinton next week and that's
a tough team to play any time but really tough after
a highly emotional game against a excellent Cuero
team.Yoakum can hold there head high because they
played there hearts out as did Cuero. That's what makes
High School football so great.

That's irrelevant in a rivalry like this. I understand the Leps are a great team but comparing margins of victory is absurd.

At this point in the season LG is playing at a higher level then most everyone else and looks to be on the way for a very deep run in the playoffs. I would love to see a Gilmer vs. LG game. Like a lot of games there were a lot of could haves and should haves that seem magnify in rivalries, 14 Yoakum points came off kickoff returns and Yoakums recovery of an onside kick along with the Cuero QB and receivers uncaricstic missing or dropping on three passes that should had led to point in first period as the QB had been at or near 65% completion on the year and last night was below 50%. On Yoakum side turnovers hurt them, not sure what Yoakums turnover history is for the season so I do not know if that is common for them to have so many turnovers this season but that definitely helped Cuero once The Gobblers made a few adjustments on offensive side of ball and got rolling after sluggish start.

Could very well be the best two teams in all of 4A D1 or D2. There is a lot of games to be played both these teams will need to stay healthy and be aware of teams that are getting better as year goes on.

Thought Yoakum would be able to do better against Cuero this year. I guess Hights was pressured all night and couldn't break some plays. Sounds like the Oline may have been overmatched, I dunno. Obviously, the Cuero offense came from behind and kept scoring, so maybe they controlled the clock in the 2nd half and wore down the Yoakum D. IF that happened, then the Cuero D was reasonably "fresh" in the 2nd half.....just reading between the lines.

Two of Yoakum's touchdowns came off kick off returns. Yoakum's other scores were really quick. Yoakum was up 21-00 in first quarter. Cuero's scoring drives ate up the clock and they pounded the ball.

As a team should do iF. Keep feeding the hot hand. Hopkins averaged 10 yards a carry. Ran it 37 times. Yoakum #10 ran it 9 times, averaged 20 yards a carry. No wonder they didn't keep drives alive, or extended scoring drives and balance out the important time of possession. Wrong kid running it. He wasn't even the leading carrier on the team for some reason. You getting two first downs per carry, he run's it till he passes out.

Pretty clear out the gate, Cuero was not going to let Ykm QB beat them. Yet, message not detected on other sideline.

Sure glad I made this one. Was a good game. But, up 21-0, not sure you should blow it by not using over and over, what's working. #10 right and left and up gut. Cuero was on the ropes and it got quite where I was sitting for awhile. Just sayin.

That's how all teams approach Yoakum, the word is stop #9 and you win! For Yoakum it doesn't have to be that way however Yoakum hasn't heard what everyone else has and not use #10 as much as they should and last night was yet another example.

104th meeting between DeWitt County foes. Cuero owns a wide margin of victory's over Yoakum. Bulldogs won last 3. District opener. Pound will be packed. Good luck all and safe travels.

Well, if they are that hard headed and not willing to make adjustments, once it's determined what an opponent is doing, Ykm will be in trouble getting a playoff spot. I think Sinton QB (Handson) will have success in whatever he want's to do on this defense I seen. Ykm is just a quick strike type offense from the rush. Get in shootout, they can't hang not going with hot hand. And, no real pass potential.

You right Cuero went with hot hand and for some reason
Yoakum didn't. Untill Cuero adjusted Yoakum should have
gave ball to "10. Kid has great speed and only 9 carries
for 168 yds. and 3TD and 2 kick off for 2 TD.
He had 15 TD this year and probably only 60 carries with over
600 yds.
