Jackets and Lions in the same district again. Jackets coming off a bye week and the Lions coming into the game with a win against Springtown. I always hate the games after a bye week, sometimes the timing

..and its amazing how many open options you have when you check down past the covered primary..in NCAA you wont get away with that!

Maybe against Alvarado. QB performed against Springtown Friday. I think Brownwood ended up with 137 yards passing. Springtown wasn't that good at all. Small OL/DL and were playing with a 3rd string QB.

I'm not going to make at prediction until later in the week. This game could get out of hand quickly if the Jackets are firing on all cylinders. Look at the penalties.

Offensively Stephenville will put up plenty of points on the scoreboard, however the defense is suspect... They gave up over 500 yards against LC and 402 against Alvarado, the Jackets will have to shore up some weaknesses on defense if they expect to beat Brownwood or any of their other district opponents.
I don't see the Lions keeping up with the Jackets offense, but they should make it a good game. Stephenville by 14

To me, based on what I've observed from watching both teams, Brownwood will have to have success throwing the ball. Brownwood's #8 is a great athlete and will have to be heavily involved in this. Last week he had 1 catch against Springtown. Granted, Brownwood was having success running the ball against the small Springtown DL where they didn't have to throw the ball much. Key for Stephenville's D is to bring a lot of pressure on the QB and have the corners cover well. Hopefully, Stephenville has improved the DB's ability to cover during the last 2 weeks of practice. It's going to be a very physical game no questions about that.

Ok, Now that I got that out of the way. I am really looking forward to this game. I have no doubt that the Yellow Jackets will be hungry for a win coming off of the bye week. If the Jackets are ready to be physical on defense and play the ball in the passing game this one could be over quick. But it the Jackets D gets cought sleeping this match up could end up being competitive well into the second half. Either way I see the Yellow Jackets gaining seperation toward the end of the 3rd and on into the 4th to win this game by at least 21 points.

I agree, if the passing game isn't successful for the Lions, the Jackets will control the LOS and allow the LB's to hit the gaps and play hard nosed smash mouth football.

You know I picked Springtown to win last week against Brownwood, but I had no idea that Stown was without their starting qb and their #2. The stats don't look that good for Brownwood in last weeks game, esp. against their #3. That speaks volumes about how this game should go, imo. Look for the Jackets to annihilate the Lions, just because they can and feel like winning big. They will want to carry a big stick going into district play, and this game kicks that off. Good luck this week, Brownwood. Maybe you can expose the secondary of the Jackets, or maybe they will have it shored up by now.

It has been a while since these two have had a competitive ball game. The last 4 have been blow outs 3 for Sville and 1 for Bwood. The last good ball game these 2 played was in 2008, 31-28 Sville.

As much as I don't like the Wood, I do respect them. I hear they can score and I believe we give up some points. I don't think they can stop our offense. We won't completely dominate them like some of the more recent games, but I still say we win be three touchdowns. A 55 to 35 type ball game.

I don't think many want to get out from under the bed for this one. There will either be some nail biting at half or time to go home and prepare for the downlow bashing. Brownwood has been a team of two halfs.

The first half of our games looks like a possible limp into 4th place in district with luck.
The second half looks like a deep playoff team.

If our talented soph. laiden team does not get totally demoralized early (which is possible) we can give them a scare. Thats my uninformed opinion...:thinking:

Ville has 4 Soph's and 8 Jr's that have started so far this season. Pretty young team and the youth has shown in some games. As long as they continue to develop and get better, that's what matters. ;)

For the record, when Graham played Brownwood in Brownwood, that game was closer than the score reflected in terms of both teams moving the ball and making stops. Brownwood's untimely mistakes killed their momentum, especially in the second half.

Without being to obvious and cliche we have hang close through the wild attack that Stephenville will come out with. The second half would then become key.

Alvarado had 171 yards rushing with only 33 in the second half.
Springtown had 332 total yards with only 82 total yards in the second half
Burk took of and ran through us for a quick score and 2 point conversion only to be held scoreless in the second half.

I just hope we can hang close against a top rated team.

If I were coaching against Stephenville, the obvious key is to put defensive pressure on Stidham. Whether that's blitzing, dropping 8 back in zone coverage like LC did, or putting a spy on him in case he runs. But as we all know, that's a tall tall task. He's a D1 recruit for a reason. Is he all world? No. Here's my opinion on this years offense. In 2012, T. Jones had 3 real good receivers and a solid RB to throw to. He had Stidham, Gunter, Morrison and Westbrook. All 4 of those players were go to players. This year, Stidham has 4 good receivers in Stufflebean, Brown, Nowell and Martin and a real good RB in Williams. Pick your poison. I expect the play book to be opened a little more this week than what's been displayed so far. Maybe the Ville won't need to. I will say that the Lions will have to stay on their keys and put pressure on Stidham in order to hang around. Otherwise, this game could be decided in the first half. Never count out the Lions, especially this year. Solid group of players just need to find the right recipe.

The Lions will not be the best passing team the Jackets have faced to date. That was Lubbock Cooper. Trust me, the Lions have a run heavy offense. Their QB is capable, but their strength is running the rock and throw 10-20 times a game. Now from the success LC had against the Jackets secondary, more teams will test them with the pass. We'll how the adjustments the Jackets have made work.

That's why he didn't run much the 2nd half of that game and against Alvarillo. ;) The fury will be unleashed against the Lions, you can count on that. The Lions only managed to score 28 on the Injuns. The Jackets put up fiddy five, could have been more. :kiss:

Brownwood has a solid team this year. After seeing them in 2 games, they can play quality football when they execute. If they can string 4 consecutive quarters together, minimize the mental mistakes in giving up 10-12 penalties a game and limit the turnovers to 1 or less, the Lions can be a top tier team. The question is, can they. Maybe this week against the Jackets they'll rise to the occasion and play above the level they have been up to this point. It's district play so everyone in this district will have to bring it all 4 quarters to survive. Div 1 District 3 is the 2014 District of Doom! North Central West Texas speed kills! :twitch:

much of a chance including Brownwood's satirical writer lol. But, boy has that changed. I
think prep's is probably right by expecting this to be a one possession game and I do think
Stephenville will win. But, just imagine if Brownwood pulled off the upset. Man, would
that flip the district upside down or what?

Offensively Stephenville will put up plenty of points on the scoreboard, however the defense is suspect... They gave up over 500 yards against LC and 402 against Alvarado, the Jackets will have to shore up some weaknesses on defense if they expect to beat Brownwood or any of their other district opponents.
