68-10 1/2 ... Jonathan Reeves, FB Austin 2001The Texas state boys record is also the national record which is 81'3.5" set by Michael Carter, Dallas Jefferson in 1979. Just a side note his daughter just set the girls national record.

Actually the State record is 75'9" by Michael Carter, to qualify as a State Record it has to be done at the State Meet. He also holds the National record of 77' that he did in Abiliene later that summer.

What are some of the long discus throws in the state this year?Jasper finished second at the Jesuit-Sheaner Relays in Dallas last week running in the 4a division. Quote from the Jasper coach in the Beaumont Enterprise:

"We have a little bit of everything," Weatherspoon said. "We've gotten field points, which we haven't earned in the past. Our two long-jumpers, Terrance Bean and D'Kendrick Gilder, placed first and third in the Dallas meet last weekend.

"Another big plus for our team is Joseph Bryant in the shot put and discus. He threw 60 feet 4 inches in the shot put last week and 154-0 in the discus. He's one of the top shot-putters in the state and his throw in the discus puts us at the top of 3A schools."
