EDNA COWBOYS (1-3)

AT COLUMBIA ROUGHNECKS (4-0)

7:30 p.m. Friday

at Griggs Field

OVERVIEW: Coming off an emotional tough win against Sweeny, the Columbia Roughnecks will celebrate homecoming against Edna. The Necks rode the junior legs of Dakarius Bell (40-147) against the Bulldogs and could do the same against the Cowboys.

The Roughneck defense, which was tested last week, will get another test as Marquis Broussard (92-748 yards, 8.1 yards per carry, eight TDs) comes into Griggs Field averaging 187 yards a game. As a team the Cowboys are running for 264 yards a game.

Quarterback Landon O’Connor is 20-51-5 for 253 yards and four touchdowns. Tyler Ramsey and Alvell Robinson are the leading tacklers on the team with 27 each. O’Connor is right behind them with 26.

The last time these two met was in 1977, as the Cowboys pulled out a 21-20 win. Columbia leads the all-time series, 13-5-1.

HITCHCOCK BULLDOGS (4-0)

AT SWEENY BULLDOGS (3-1)

7:30 p.m. Friday

at SWEENY Bulldog Stadium

OVERVIEW: Sweeny will try to regroup at home against the unbeaten Bulldogs from Hitchcock. Sweeny’s offense was stymied against Columbia last week, gaining only 230 total yards. Leading rusher Anthany Simmons (47-364, 7.74 per carry, TD) was held to just 22 yards against the Roughnecks.

Quarterback Cody Erikson (80-45-4, 572 passing yards, six TDs) had the hot hand against Columbia, throwing for close to 200 yards and a score.

Hitchcock comes into the contest averaging 43 points per game while only giving up 12 points a contest. With a slot-T offense, the Bulldogs are coming off a 52-0 blanking of KIPP Sunnyside, scoring on every offensive drive except one. Hitchcock totaled 520 offensive yards, with 477 coming via the ground. Jonas Owens and Xavian Hampton each had 154 yards rushing.

Sweeny leads the series 26-4. The teams last played in 2001 (34-6) with a Bulldog win. Hitchcock’s last win was in 1991 (34-21).
