I expect a lot of talking in this thread. Surprised one of you hadn't started this thread yet.

I am actually picking Graham this week as a tough football schedule finally takes its toll on Argyle this week. Graham has a very strong passing attack and mixes it with a good running game. This will be a close game and Argyle will again lean heavy on Raulerson to wear down the Graham defense and eat up the clock.

I'm picking Graham this week as well. I picked against them last week against Wylie. Holding Wylie to under 100 yards of offense is pretty impressive. I watched Graham play Brownwood. They looked pretty good. Brownwood made a lot of mistakes so it's was hard to guage both teams then. If Brownwood executed better, they could have scored 2-3 more TD's easily. So either Wylie had an aweful night on O last week, Graham's D is that stout, or Graham just had the perfect game plan against Wylie. Either way, Graham is 3-0 and playing 3-0 Argyle. I expect a slobber knocker. I'll be there for this one.

Hollywood's pick em strategy = Pick against Argyle, they will eventually lose.

Wylie @ Argyle Woods Pick = Wylie
Celina @ Argyle. Woods Pick = Celina
Argyle @ Graham. Woods Pick = Graham

I feel better about our chances already :clap:

Remarkably similar teams and styles. Graham is just bigger and stronger across the front--Graham by 10-14 points in a very physical game...

Considering how even the Wylie-Argyle game was, and how dominant Graham was against Wylie, I am going with Graham in this one.

LOL, hey, Graham can say the same last week. I picked Wylie. So who's to say. Both Argyle and Graham are very good teams.

My plans are to be at this game. We should have a meet and greet. So far it's myself and Ville-D. Sville? Hollyville? Refereedoc? Y'all in or out?

Aguila, I'm sure everyone will pick us to win the game we have in a couple of weeks (Dallas Pinkston).

Here are the stats from the Graham @ Brownwood game 2 weeks ago. Some Graham folks claim they have the best defense in the state. If you look, pretty even stats across the board. They key stat is turnovers which lead to the point swings. Brownwood protects the ball better, they would have had a much better chance to win this game.

Graham vs Brownwood 2014 Statistics:

BHS ----- GHS

Total Yds 352 ----- 375
Rushing Yds 206 ----- 199
Passing Yds 146 ----- 176
1st Downs 18 ----- 20
Turnovers 5 (3 fumbles, 2 picks) ------ 1 fumble
Penalties 6/80 yds ----- 6/50 yds
Punts 4/34.2 yd avg. ----- 7/36 yd avg.

Argyle is a great program and will be for years to come. Graham is a great program that keeps showing up and playing good football year after year. It's going to be a damn good game is my first prediction and my second will be Graham by 14. That defense is something special. There is lack of experience in some areas but they're still above average in those positions.

This game is a very difficult pickem for several reasons. You must remember Argyle will only get better with each game as the season progresses....probably at a greater rate than Graham. Graham is feeling "strong" on their early season tough schedule, and won in Wylie against a Wylie team that beat a good Burnet team soundly at Burnet. They have a "revenge" game AT HOME against Argyle this week....probably their biggest game of this early schedule to date....bigger than last week's big win IN Wylie. Argyle continues to win even when it appears on paper they statiscally should lose. Argyle usually wins the turnover battle....they CAUSE turnovers. Not only does Argyle cause turnovers, but they are very good at capitalizing on turnovers. Ralston cannot be stopped the whole game....he's a HUGE threat on every offensive series. That allows the rest of the Argyle offense OPPORTUNITIES to strike for big plays. I really don't know much about Graham this year....other than they have a solid ballclub with a good qb and tough defense. On paper, it appears they have the players to handle Argyle this week and it is a BIG home game for them to boot. All I can say is it's a tough call. You can find reasons to favor either team....take your pick. I'm sticking with a proven winner....Argyle wins in a squeaker late in 4th....maybe very late.

Good post. I think it truly could go either way. I'm picking Graham due to home field advantage but will not be surprised at all if Argyle won. I'm hoping for a nail biter, slobber knocker, 6 score changes type of game from an outsiders view. :D

There are more numbers that CAN score for Argyle that you didn't mention here. If #22(Ralston) is held under 75 yds. and only scores once, then there WILL be more numbers besides what you mentioned here that will score for Argyle, jmo.

Argyle generated 301 yds. rushing and 219 yds. passing last week against Celina in wet, windy conditions. They scored 41 pts., took a knee at the Celina 1 yd. line with 15 secs. left in regulation, and amassed 29 first downs. They were penalized 3 times for 30 yds. and had 0 turnovers, while converting 2 of 4 Celina turnovers. A little football fingerfood to snack on before gametime, folks.

Running backs like Ralston don't usually struggle against any fronts. I would imagine he's going to get his yards on Friday. It may not be enough for Argyle, but the Eagles won't lose because a lack of effort from Ralston.

True but most of that was done after QB1 went out in the first and time of possession changed dramatically after that. Defense got worn down. No excuses just facts.

Sorry to hear about your "obligation" to dove hunt out in the Graham area on Sat. morn, bobcat1. Those kind of obligations are the kind most of us look forward to, haha. Knock down a few for me while you're at it. And watch out for Rattlers if the area has been hunted recently. Those unretrieved birds make nice meals for the Rattler.

You are correct. #99 is a brute. I'm puzzled, how did lil ole Brownwood rack up over 200 yards rushing on that stout Graham D? And they don't have a Ralston.

For those of you unaware, #25 is JC Chalk, TE and whatever else they put him at. He's a junior this season and should take on a much larger role for the Eagles as the season progresses. He's 6'4" 225 and very athletic....a 2-sport star in football & basketball. Grandson of Coach Gene Stallings. Google him up and check him out.

Nope...just the one the boys been waiting on.

That's sweet and we are blushing. Just another pre season game for the Eagles. Plenty of work to do for a team with bigger aspirations than winning a preseason game vs a non district, non region opponent in September. I know this sounds ridiculous to the Graham posters but what if.....what if....Argyle wins in a game the steers are favored at home? Wow, that would be crazy. That would be a tough one. I guess that is a ridiculous thought though.....or is it? Eagles will show up with our small, slow, inexperienced team and give it a go. The buses had already been booked.

Nope Ian is at Tech, hell of a player. His brother actually plays on the team. Thanks for asking about him. Not butt hurt at all. I guess the ring helps control that. [QUOTE=bearbear78;1823951]Can get butt hurt all you want, it's going to be a different game than the last meeting. You guys have Mr. Sadler coming in to suit up? Nope!!! As long as our offense is clicking you boys are in trouble. That's what got us last year. Shoulda coulda woulda" dang sure worked in Argyles favor last year, vs Graham coulda been different , but it wasn't and vs Fairfield coulda been different if the game woulda been called right which is saying that trophy shoulda been in Fairfield......yep I said it...and so did many others...bad calls hurt Fairfield and an off night hurt the Graham team, our defense brought it and none of your starters could have stopped 41 had we put him in earlier in the game.[/

Nope Ian is at Tech, hell of a player. His brother actually plays on the team. Thanks for asking about him. Not butt hurt at all. I guess the ring helps control that. Fairfield and Gilmer both had awesome teams last year, best teams we faced......and very professional, we just beat them in great games.
Yep the Ole "shoulda coulda woulda" either works for you or against you and it was on Argyles side. Not gonna even get in that debate with ya. Let's just see how it plays out Friday night..yeah I know, not suppose to pick our own team to win because it gets some butt hurt , get over it. What's your obsession with bars and beer anyway? That's sweet and we are blushing. Just another pre season game for the Eagles. Plenty of work to do for a team with bigger aspirations than winning a preseason game vs a non district, non region opponent in September. I know this sounds ridiculous to the Graham posters but what if.....what if....Argyle wins in a game the steers are favored at home? Wow, that would be crazy. That would be a tough one. I guess that is a ridiculous thought though.....or is it? Eagles will show up with our small, slow, inexperienced team and give it a go. The buses had already been booked.

Y'all have to rent buses?? Dang!!
But back to the game, argyle beating Graham at home could happen, it's not like we were dealt a bad hand, it was a choice to play argyle !! We can only move up, but argyle on the other hand, well y'all's little pedestal could crumble and ruin your whole season!! I promise you Graham is gonna show up and give it a go, should be fun!!

This would be nothing more than a huge confidence booster for Graham if they win Friday after the way the season ended last year. It would be the same for Argyle if Graham would have ended their season last year. To say its just another preseason game is a bit off when you have 2 topped rank teams going at each other!

Graham's strong DL will have to get off their blocks quick to contain Argyle's O. If Ralston gets to the second level more often than not, that spells trouble for the Graham D. I'm sure Argyle is planning to double #99 or #76 which ever number he's wearing.

For Graham's O to be successful, the key is the new QB. He's done a good job so far from what I've seen but tomorrow night will be another level of football than what he's seen so far. The OL is good and can buy him time. He'll need to make quick decisions and plays with his legs like he's done this season except tomorrow will be more physical and faster pace. I think he grows a little more as a player in this game.

Looking forward to a great game!

One thing you can ALWAYS count on when you have a game with the Steers is the Grahamites will be pumped up for the game. Kudos to the fanbase of the Steers....even if sometimes your fierce homerism goes to excess, esp. last year and now this season again. It can only be a very good thing for both schools and their teams. I'm pretty sure Graham is AS ADVERTISED this season, so the Eagles will have to bring their "A" game and play clean football to give themselves every chance for a win in this one. It will most certainly be a physical battle on the gridiron of glory in Graham under the Friday Nite Lights for sure. The stadium should be full regardless of the weather, and I just hope the Argyle faithful show up en masse to support our boyz. I don't know what the weather forecast is for Graham....other than football weather! Y'all know what that means, right? It's time to RUUUUMBLE!!!!

I don't know how many people everybody thinks lives in Argyle. We are a small community of just 3500, and only so many go to every game, esp. out of town games on a Friday. When the game is played in a large stadium, it always looks like Argyle didn't show up....but we did. That's just all there is for this small community. Most towns with one football team has a larger population than Argyle, even if they are in 3A. Argyle just happens to have lots of kids for a landlocked small community....but not much in the way of a regular town. There's a big difference between 3500 population and 5500 population supporting a team at this classification. We do pretty darn good with what we have. And then there's Argyle Liberty Christian down the street in Argyle, also. Now only a small portion of that student population and fanbase lives in Argyle, but it still divides up the numbers somewhat. Besides, it don't really matter what our fanbase size is compared to our competition as long as we are competitive.

We went in with a halftime lead, it started raining cats and dogs, and then our passing attack went out the window. I think JJ still completed close to 300 yds., but not TD's in the 4th. As I recall, Sweetwater had that good RB(I think he went to the NFL with St. Louis) and he broke a couple in the 2nd half on that slippery turf. Argyle had a chance at the end to win it, but one of the Sweetwater d-backs intercepted it deep in their end of the field. It was a really good game despite the conditions. That was the last time I believe Argyle played in Graham.

The running back's name is Joseph Banyard who plays for the Vikings. As I had told firstdown years ago, that

The Eagle Nation enjoys a friendly Friday night battle with good folks that can really appreciate what we bring to the invite, haha. Sorta like getting a big bite on your line, big anticipation on what it could be, excitement builds as it could be a 14 pound bass, maybe bigger, reeling it in, reeling it in, this could be a trophy on my wall............then pulling in an old tire. The results don't always match up to the excitement and anticipation.

Old tires by 17.

True but there is a lot Bass hanging on the wall!! You just dispose of the tire properly and keep fishing, the bass will take the bait!!

That is a bold prediction. I won't be shocked to see Graham win, but I don't see that margin of victory for either team.

I agree! These are two well disciplined & well coached teams and I'm not anticipating any blowouts. I am pulling for a Steer win that relieves any doubt as to who the better team is just like I am sure Argyle fans would like to see the same from the Eagles. Good luck to both teams on having an injury free game and safe travels to and from for Eagle Nation.

Give em Heck Steers

Darn it....I wish I lived closer where this wouldn't be such a drive to go see. I guess I'll be listening to the game on the Argyle Broadcast like I always do when I'm not able to attend. I sure would like to see just how good them Steers players really are this season. I've already got a pretty good feeling about the Eagles and what they will end up doing this season. Argyle will be in the mix all season long again this year, regardless of tonite's final results. I'm sure the same can be said for Graham. In fact, it is not out of the realm of possibility that these teams COULD meet more than once this season. I could say the same for Wylie. Whatever happens tonite on the gridiron of glory will only be a little taste of what can be expected from these two teams much later this year as the season progresses and the teams develop their full potential. Good luck to both squads tonite in this clash of top-rated teams. We are all in agreement that season-ending injuries to any of the players will not occur. Let's hope for a very cleanly played, exciting game.

Good Friday morning to Steer Nation. After watching the Stephenville game last night, I'm sure there's a few teams out West licking their chops, huh? Meanwhile, Argyle would like to say "hello" again. I know the Graham folks love their football and their town, so we Argyllians will try to mind our manners on the visit. The Eagle Nation enjoys a friendly Friday night battle with good folks that can really appreciate what we bring to the invite, haha. We're not the loudest of fanbases...nor the most in number...but we do try to please with quality play. Our band will sound, and our players will pound....just to let you know we like the company.

regaleagle, will you be at the game?! Remember a meet and greet at the north end at halftime. Largest M&G I've ever attended was in 2010. Brownwood vs Monahans in San Angelo. There had to have been at least 30 in that pic.

*edit... nevermind regaleagle, I didn't see you're earlier post. Good luck to both teams!

I was there. I was standing in between Looking4number8 and 95mustang and L4#8 raised his arms to signal touchdown before the pic
which was blocking me out. So, I started to make my way behind the score board and before I could get in between Rocket and
Lion91(?) and above two of the tres loboes the pic had already been taken.

Not real sure why Graham's corners don't jam receivers like argyles. That really throws the receivers off. Especially if they are small. Argyle had 5-7 yard window all night long. Just my opinion.

It really could have been a different game....but it is what it is.....I hope this game is a learning tool for the boys and coaching staff for later in the season. If not then tonight the battle was pointless . Lets make the changes and adjustments needed and keep on playing hard. Ralstons a beast. JS

I've seen them both too... difference maker is the Graham D-line. Argyle's O-line cannot handle them.

Who picked Graham?? Who didn't is easier to answer!! I got a $1.87 that Graham puts the smack down on The defending chumps and another $4.00 that you made a bad bet!!

yea, just what i thought. where was that d-line for graham? what about that best d in the state? argyle is good but not great yet. argyle pounded the rock over and over and over from what it sounds like. graham had no answer. graham gets no respect because they can't win when they play good competition. maybe one year. good luck.

After seeing Wylie's team, and following the action closely of Graham and Big Spring, and then watching the Yellowjackets play LC, I'd say that West Texas region over there is nothing but loaded this year. It's gonna be knock down, drag out starting in a couple of weeks....so if I was a poster over there I'd be a little apprehensive about what I wrote, just sayin'. I'd be complimenting my competition all the way to the finish line while cheering my boyz to victories. Good luck over there in Region 1 DI this season. I got back to my brother's house at Lake Graham from dove hunting in Woodson in time to make the game but he had ribeyes and taters with onion, jalapenos and butter along with some pico d'gallo appetizers made up. We decided to turn it on and listen rather than drive up there tired and full. Besides we could have adult beverages at his house. :2thumbsup

We listened to the game and it seems like the wheels kinda fell off for Graham after the pick 6 and the fumble on the next set of downs in the second half. Graham did not quit and I admire that in them.

Nick Ralston is a beast incarnate for sure. Wow, almost 50 carries and several key blocks thrown as well. Hats off to Argyle! I think you may just win it all again! Awesome game Graham.

I said we had to minimize the damage from Ralston and we would have a good chance. That didn't happen! At the end of the day, the turnovers and dropped passes killed us though. Hats off to Argyle. They are a solid team!
Even though its a loss, it will make Graham a better team moving forward. A buddy of mine summed it up best, "We learned a lot more from this loss than having to play a Breckenridge team and winning 44-0 like last year." Kudos to the coaches for getting a solid predistrict schedule this year.

I agree! Sometimes you learn more by failing than succeeding. That's life lessons right there. It's not all about the wins all the time. Some of lifes best lessons are when you fail and learn to get better. Kuddos to Graham on a hard faught game. Argyle was the better team that night.

I don't think there's any question that Graham is a team that has some serious upside potential this season to go all the way. The unfortunate reality is that there will be a couple of very good teams out of Region 1 D1 this season that will not go as deep as they would if those teams were in a different region. That seems to happen every so often in a stacked region, but not every year. This year it will happen in Region 1 without a doubt. It will be survival of the fittest(healthiest) and luckiest. That's just the way things seem to be destined over there this season.

There is still a lot of football to be played. In my opinion the tough battles early on instead of deep in the playoffs will make a much more dangerous contender in the Graham Steers. Id take a SC with a couple Ls on my record vs getting knocked off in the semis and having that L as my elimination game. If Graham goes all the way you can bet your boots ill contribute a portion of the win to the teams to took us to the limit and forced us to play with all we had, showed us our weakness, made us improve and adjust, and made us a battle tested team. The blood, sweat, and, tears are a thing of beauty under the friday night lights of texas. When my son is my age he will still remember the nights he battled the Argyles, Gilmers, Jackets, Dawgs and others I am sure. Thats what its all about and thats why I love this game.
