BAYTOWN — Baytown Sterling’s two-headed running attack was too much for the Brazosport Exporters on Friday night at Stallworth Stadium.

Seniors DaJuan Hill and Elijah Chenier combined for 370 yards rushing and four touchdowns to power the Rangers to a 32-12 nondistrict win.

Hill carried 22 times for 202 yards, including TD runs of 17, 27 and 57 yards.

When he was resting, Chenier pounded the Brazosport defense for 168 yards on 21 carries and a 16-yard score.

Sterling ran out to a 19-0 lead early in the third quarter and never looked back. With the win, the Rangers moved to 3-0 for the first time since the 2004 season.

The Exporters, who dropped to 1-2, were limited to 211 total yards, including just 82 in the first half.

They finally got on the scoreboard with 8:35 to play in the third quarter when freshman Ameer King returned a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown.

A blocked punt set up Brazosport’s other score. Starting from Sterling’s 27-yard line, quarterback Navontae Darthard ran for 11 yards to set up a 16-yard TD run by Nathan Lewis with 3:25 remaining in the game.

The Exporters were plagued by mistakes throughout the game, including three lost fumbles, an interception and eight penalties.

Darthard, making his first start under center, totaled 105 yards rushing on 15 carries and Lewis gained 77 yards on 12 attempts.

Kedrian Young and Darthard combined to complete just 3-of-6 passes for 42 yards. Rymir Phillips had two catches for 34 yards.

The Exporters will return to action at home Friday against La Marque.
