Might as well get started. Argyle has owned Celina the last 4 or 5 meetings is this the year Celina avenge themselves or does Argyle keep rolling?

Celina8

Celina is a better team than they have been in the last two years, but no they will not beat Argyle.

marler1972

On what basis do you say that? Have you seen Argyle play this year?

orange machine
09-06-2014, 10:23 AM
Here is my spin. I went and watched Argyle yesterday and although they are a good solid team they are light years away from last year's squad no offense Eagle folks yall graduated some awsome players. The Argyle offense will be tough to stop because of Rolston and #5 is quick and shifty. If Celina lines up in 10-1 I'm afraid it will be a long night, zone read cut back by Rolston. Our ends would need to stay home and squat, but then Argyle would pull a lead blocker and kick the end out. Again just my observation of what Argyle does and what the past has showed us, I don't like the 10-1 against the Eagles.

Argyle's defense is very susceptible in the running and passing game. The Eagles in the past have been able to dominate the line of scrimmage this year they are undersized compared to most years and we're not able to control the line if scrimmage against a small denison oline. Celina looks more comfortable in the full house backfield and has been very effective in it this year. I would line up and say here we come stop us if you can and I would pound the ball and pass off of the run.

Whichever team is wearing black wins this one.

Celina8
09-07-2014, 09:07 AM
Neither team wore black last week. Argyle was red and white at Jerry world and for those that keep saying they are a lot smaller this year...The team I saw Friday looked pretty good size with a lot of speed.

No, not really. It's just another tune up game to get ready for district. Celina is much improved and we graduated a ton and are small and slow this year. I'm thinking the bobcats avenge the last few whippings they've received.

Nobody said anything about being small and or slow. Argyle is still a force to recon ed with for sure. Celina will need to play a great game.

09-07-2014, 01:19 PM
If my history is correct, and I'd sure like to think it is, the last time Celina beat Argyle was in 2008 (and that just so happens to be the last Celina/Argyle game I've been able to see). So it's safe to say there hasn't been a team that's had Celina's number in the past decade quite like the Eagles. I actually haven't seen either of these teams play in the past few years, so any insight I can give is a complete fabrication. I know that Argyle has turned into what Celina used to be back in the streak era and mid-to-late 2000s. So even if the talent pool is 'somewhat down' the edge has still gotta go to Argyle based on recent history.

That said, having talked with a few people 'in the know,' it seems like this year's Celina team has a bit of that chemistry and fire that drove all the great Bobcats of yore. So I'm hoping this will finally be the season the Bobcats get back on top, not only of this rivalry, but of 4A football in general. A seven-year title drought is just too long.

There oline has good size, but not near as big as the last few years. There d line is also smaller than years past. For me Argyle doesn't have the flashy players like the last few years. In saying that I don't mean there not good because they are still very good and Celina will need to play a great game to win.

Oh stop don't go there lol, I never said Argyle was slow or little. Argyle still has a very good team and will win there district and get better as the year goes. Yall lost a ton of talent and D1 players so Argyle isn't as stout as they were the last few years, but that doesn't mean yall are not good and wont make another run. It just means it might be more of challenge then it has been, nothing wrong with that!

Pardon me for interjecting....since I no longer live in Argyle. But I'll agree with firstdown. If Coach Rodgers and his staff can move the team forward weekly with the athletes that are on the team...they are mainly young...then Argyle will always be in the game til the last seconds. It's the program, the staff, the players, the mentality....all those things. When you play Argyle....that's what you're playing. They may not be favored to win, but don't ever discount that winning is part of the culture.

I was expecting a lot more people posting regarding this game too, but it is just not going to happen. Now I will tell you that if Celina wins there will be plenty who will come out from the shadows and will start posting which I think would be great as it makes for a much more exciting forum. I still think Argyle wins this game as they have dropped from last years State Championship team but not that much. Celina has improved as a team especially from what they have been the last two years, however I do not think they have improved enough to beat Argyle. If I am wrong which I really do hope I am then it will be Monday before I have a chance to eat any crow as I will be out of town till Monday. I know , the biggest game of the year and I will miss it, but responsibilities require my attentions elsewhere this weekend.

Who is Argyle playing this week? When do we play Graham?
Lol.... Not too concerned. Many are saying Argyle is overrated. Maybe they are right now but rest assured, there is no shortage of talent on this roster. They are just younger than last year and lost some leaders. They are 2-0 and in my opinion have played a tougher schedule so far than 2-0 Celina. The team has been hearing all this over-rated, not as good as last year talk as well. I expect them to respond.

Eagles roll at home tonight.

Argyle wins the toss and defers to the 2nd half. Celina will recieve, so Argyle will be kicking it to open the 1st half here in Argyle. The gametime weather has a stout 25mph north wind(field runs n/s) with a constant drizzle and temperature in the 60s. On Wed. the high was over !00. Both teams will have to play in this changed weather. Nathan Elliot is a Sr. QB for the Celina Bobcats. Celina will go S to N to start the game. The kick goes into the end zone. Celina will take the ball to start on their 25 yd. line. Here we go.

Well said. When Nathan went out of the game Celina had no passing game and Argyle did a good job of slowing Celina's run game down. Celina's back up qb Conner Pengleton got thrown to the wolves tonight and did a very good job. I think once Pengleton gets more practice and games under his belt he will be a very solid qb.

The game confirmed that Argyle is very good but probably not quite as good as they have been (no surprise), that Celina, if they are healthy, can play with very good teams (no surprise), and that young men forced into situations that they are not accustomed to can struggle some but show flashes of what they are capable of (again, no surprise).

While Celina's starting Senior QB heals up, his eventual replacement will continue to grow, continue to catch up to the speed of the game (which cannot be simulated in practice or mop up time) AND will gain trust in the God given ability he has (which is PLENTY).

I am completely proud of the Bobcats effort and excited to watch this group grow toward their ultimate goal, which was not attainable Friday night, no matter who finished the game on top!

Good luck to a deserving Argyle program as they do the same!

What can you hear? I am curious

Celebrating your big win against a very good Wylie team.

Just got back into Celna this evening so I missed the big game, but wanted to say congratulations to Argyle on the victory, but also a good job by the Bobcats as they showed they will be able to play with any team this season. Good things are ahead of us for the remaining season.
