Lorena Leopards host the Robinson Rockets at inaugural game at new Leopard stadium. Robinson coming in touting a high-powered experienced offense, including returning QB Davila. Though last weeks game hero was Levonte Owens rushing for 286 yards vs the Taylor Ducks. Lorena is coming off an overtime loss to another crosstown rival China Spring 42-36. Lorena, short on experience on the offensive line, and in stark contrast to last years bruising style of offense, features speedy sr QB Jarod Poteet (4.5 / 40) and sr RB Andrew Marrero (750 total offense jr yr). The Leopards will need to really cut down on the penalties (13 penalties for 122 yards), including a roughing the passer call in the CS endzone, after pinning CS at the one off a punt, and forcing an incomplete pass on 3rd and 10, giving CS new life. Lorena was up by 8 with 5 min. to go in the contest, and would have assuredly forced a punt out of the endzone, but instead gave the Cougars the ball on the 15 and new set of downs. CS drove the length of the field and tied the game up with 2 min. remaining. Lorena will possibly again this week feature Soph. Spivey playing both ways (WR / DB).

That small running back of yours is some player. He looks like he's under 5 feet!

Andrew Marrero Weight. 155lbs. Bench Press. 235lbs. Squat . 500 lbs dead lift 495 total 1210lbs. Ht. is about 5'3" State power lifter. He is a fireplug and hard to bring down. Was fortunate to have gotten to coach him for 3 years back in the Pee Wee tackle days. Good leader and good kid.

Don't think I'd be betting against that multi-pronged Robinson offense this season. Not sure what they lost on defense to graduation, but obviously they are looking mighty stout on offense again this season, and have Davila back for this season and next. Gotta go with the Rockets again this week to put the points up.

BTW, congrats to Lorena on their new stadium.

Leopards take one on the chin tonight 25-18. Robinson scores go ahead TD with 3:00 in the game. This was pretty much the exact RR defense personell we faced last year, while LL had to reload this year. Robinson, outsizing Lorena on O and D line, come out like gangbusters and score 12 unanswered opening points in the first 5 mins. Looked like it was going to be lights out after shutting Lorena down in their two opening drives. Then Lorena woke up and scored 12 unanswered of their own. Davila, though not appearing to be ginger on the ribs, was still eratic in his passing game, though LL corner was burned for a deep TD passes in mid 1st quarter. Fortunately for LL, that was one of the last. Teams swapped TD's after half before RR went up one final time in the fourth. Lorena drove the length after kickoff, but fourth and 5 fell short at the RR 30. Congrats to the Rockets, though they will have to improve quite a bit to impress a top 10 out of me. Proud of the Leopards, showed a bunch of heart against a very good Robinson team. Lorena did a pretty good job keeping (last week 300 yard+) rusher Levonte Owens under wrap for a good portion of the night, though I predict he had an impressive 175+ yards tonight. Also congrats to the 5 LL sophomore starters tonight in nice games.
