Way to stand up and be decisive!!
THE Bulldogs from Wylie win this one by 10+! Why? Well mostly because I said so ;) but also because our defense showed against Argyle that they will be a force this season. I have confidence that our top notch coaching staff will get the boys ready to clean up the offensive miscues (5 turnovers) and things will be clicking as planned by next Friday. The always tough defending Champion Argyle Eagles totaled 183 offensive yards, to Wylie's 428 yards. Argyle's offense had 7 first downs to Wylie's 20. Did we win the game? Nope but it was a great gauge to see where we are and what we need to work on against a top ranked team. I think we take away a lot of positives from this game, as well as some negatives. Typical of the opening game of the season. Burnet will get to see the results from working on some sloppiness this week.
I'm looking forward to this one!!!! Never been to Burnet. What's on the wine list? :)

Argyle is generally a good gauge so to speak. Not sure about this year as much as the past 2 years. Now, that's not taking anything away from either team. The stats tell me Wylie is as good as I thought y'all would be. Burnet will be a tough out especially in their house. By the way, there are some pretty good wineries I that area for the record! ;) May want to plan ahead to get there early or make a stop at their HEB for some local stuff.

Good luck!

Wylie is BIG and strong. They have 2 qb's that could start for most 4A teams, but the junior(6'2" 195) looks like a talent in the making. He has a great arm, is accurate, and can move well. He's a threat as a runner, and is very strong. His height helps him see the field better than the 6 ft. 180 senior qb. He didn't start against Argyle, but played most of the 2nd half. That 6'4" 280 lb. tight end is a beast if the qb can get him the ball. What a great player to move around for blocking on screens, swing passes, and runs. BTW, the other 2 recievers are also 6'4", haha. And then there's the tall secondary to contend with. Wylie is Big, loaded, and athletic. I remember 2 yrs. ago when Argyle lost to Wylie the first game of the year, then reeled off consecutive wins til we met Gilmer in the Regional Semis. Wylie will clean up the miscues, no problem. They will be a force to reckon with this season...for every opponent. Good luck to the Wylie Bulldogs the rest of the way. I know you guys have a tough schedule this season...just like Argyle does.

Talking about bands makes me a little wistful.................back in the mid-90's for about 10 years, the Robinson band was about 250 - 300 kids...............wow, they would stretch from about the 10 yard line to the 10 yard line.........gathered some State Championships along the way...........now, they have less than 200 and are an average 4A (dang it's hard to not to say 3A) band. Tony Clines, the band director at the time retired a few years ago and the decline began.

Can't really say about Burnet, but I can tell you about what Wylie brings to the dance. According to the Argyle/Wylie game program, Wylie has 36 seniors, 20 juniors, and 1 soph. on their varsity, haha. BTW, that big boy tight end (6'5" 260) Baylen Baker also plays as a DE for Wylie. I think he likes to dance. I think #38 Boler at LB is also a pretty good dancer, lol. Heck, let's just say the whole team has been to a few dances and seems to be very comfortable with their steps. Now there were a few missteps in the first dance of the year, but I'm sure Sandifer(being a seasoned dancer himself) will have these boys 2-stepping to the music come Friday night just fine.

No, I'm in Central Texas doing roofs in the Temple/Belton/Killeen/Copperas Cove hailstorm since April. I had moved to N. San Antonio last Nov. from Fred. Temple is supposed to have a pretty darn good team this season. All 4 of these teams won last week, but Killeen has 2 high schools.

Travis had 7 starters out - the starting QB and a WR I know were suspended and I would assume the others were as well.
Cove put up over 800 yards of offense and 62 points vs 5A #4 A&M Consolidated.

Much better... From our perspective. Cleaned up a lot of mistakes and stopped the turnovers. Kleffner got the stats (deservedly) but the real stars of the game was the O-line. If we can clear up the QB question this can be a very good Wylie team. Should be a great game with a very good Graham team...,

hollywood
09-06-2014, 11:10 AM
Congrats Wylie!

Not sure how good Graham is yet. Their QB is on the small side but is pretty athletic. Brownwood turned the ball over 5 times and could have been several more. At least 3 of the turnovers were tipped balls from the Brownwood WR's either due to not seeing the ball in or poor pass from QB. Graham fans may express they were forced, but from what I saw, it was a lack of execution from Brownwood. They have some things to address and clean up. If they can before district play, they'll be a force. If not, it's going to be a long season. BS, Wylie and Stephenville will exploit those mistakes and capitalize like Graham did. I'm not one that complains about coaching but Graham's staff quite frankly out coached Brownwood. Brownwood has the athletes. They have size, speed and play makers. Just need to gel. Several mental mistakes by the players and coaching staff. They'll rebound and improve on the miscues. It's just going to take a few more weeks.

I'm picking Wylie by 7+ over Graham next week.
