Not sure about the scrimmages, but here's a look at the ARGYLE EAGLES 2014 SEASON SCHEDULE:

8/29 Abilene Wylie @ Argyle
9/05 Argyle @ Denison High
9/12 Celina @ Argyle
9/19 Argyle @ Graham
9/26 Argyle @ Paris High
10/3 Argyle @ Dallas Bishop Lynch(Tapps)
10/9 Argyle @ Carrollton Ranchview(my 60th birthday) Go Eagles/1st district game.
10/17 Dallas Wilmer Hutchins @ Argyle
10/24 Argyle @ Dallas Carter
10/31 Dallas Pinkston @ Argyle
11/7 Argyle @ Sanger

Apparently the Argyle Eagles will have 2 scrimmages and then play 11 straight games without an open date. Looks like the first 6 games are against some very formidable football programs. Don't expect Argyle to go unscathed thru their non-district schedule. If they do run this gauntlet....look out! Great schedule by the staff, regardless. Only 4 home games and 7 away....4 in a row. I guess everybody wants a piece of Argyle at their place, lol. Look for Argyle to improve as the season progresses this season, barring injuries to key players. Not sure about the backup qb.

If Argyle can get thru the first 4 games with only one loss, then they will be a real contender for winning the region. Realistically, I think 10-4 or 11-4 would be considered a very successful season this year for the Eagles with this tough early schedule. Dallas Carter, Wilmer Hutchins, and Sanger look to be very competitive games for Argyle in district this season, imo.

Is Halletsville any good? I think i remember them having a pretty good squad last year. Liberty? Houston Austin?

Halletsville's Sr QB transferred to Goliad (2,400-31 TDs), they will still be a very tough opponent out of the gate.

Both DCTF and TOC have Liberty and Austin finishing at or near the bottom of their respective districts...we better not lose to them.

Hallettsville is still my pre-season number one in 3A DI. Kowalik and his 3,500 yards passing last season are gone to Goliad, but they still should be the favorite in the region if they get decent QB play. The 3,500 yards was according to this article by AdvoSports : http://www.advosports.com/news/2014/may/23/mf_kowalik_052414_240385/

I don't think there will be any "L"s this year. I could be wrong, but...just saying. Yamboree week has been a "W" just like any other week for how many years in-a-row? Maybe aesculus gilmus can answer that one...

Regal, wk 2 is at AT&T @ 2pm. The scrimmages are against Cleburne and Corsicana. Open date is the wk of 10/3.

Okay, that makes more sense now. So I guess that changes my thoughts on the season going forward. A 10-3 or better finish would be a great season this year, imo. That would mean 2 losses going into the playoffs and 3 rounds deep in the playoffs. Anything past that would be impressive for this years squad.

Regaleagle, I know you're just being cautious when you say 10-3. I think the Eagles will likely be 10-0, 9-1 at the least, going into the playoffs. The eagles are very well-coached, and I expect them to be in the late rounds again as usual.

Not so fast there, waterboy. Let's give some credit to some of the competition we have scheduled. Wylie, Celina, Denison, and Graham are ALL very capable teams, as is Dallas Carter, Wilmer Hutchins this season, and Sanger. Carter and Hutch will be senior laden, and Sanger has always competed well against Argyle. They will have some quality seniors leading their team this season. Don't forget that Argyle graduated the house this past season and has just a handful of seniors in this class....literally a very small senior class in football for Argyle this year. Lots of juniors and sophs, though. It will be one of those teams that "might" surprise, but I've been around for a long time and it's very unlikely this team can run this gauntlet scheduled. Just too many good programs to play each week that have many seniors. In high school football, that last year for seniors is BIG, imo. Lots of these boys don't fully mature until their senior season. Sometimes talent alone is not enough. At least this Argyle team has been to the top of the mountain and has been tested and found worthy to compete at the highest levels. That's why I say this team "might" surprise....if everything falls just right for the Eagles. It will be tough sledding each week to start the season, for sure.

Somehow, I feel an Argyle/Gilmer reunion will be revisited in the not too distant future....whether it occurs in predistrict or in a playoff scenario somewhere down the line. All of that gas/oil in Upshur County should bring a few more students to Gilmer.....and that's about all y'all need to move up to D1, haha....maybe 10 more students, lol. Maybe next realignment you'll feel differently.

Not much in the way of oil and gas in Upshur County. Activity has been dwindling for over a decade now. If we have any population increase it'll be because of people not wanting to live in Longview. I don't see an influx of population at all here. We may miss our annual slugfest for a couple of years, but that may or may not change next realignment. "Feel differently"? I don't think so.

Arkansas has a 7A classification??? That state is not that populated, so I don't think the number denoting the classification quite equates to what we are used to here in Texas, footballwise. Let's just assume its probably their largest classification for high schools in Arkansas. I hope the Rattlers from little ol' Navasota 4A in Texas show them backwoods boys in Arkansas 7A how we play this game down here in the great state of Texas.....where football is King. They can pick from their bestest bunch of their BIG schools and methinks they'll be biting off alot more than they may realize, haha.

Didn't Euless Trinity play the 'best' team from Arkansas a few seasons ago and beat them in the 80-20 range?

Found it - http://www.maxpreps.com/high-schools/shiloh-christian-saints-(springdale,ar)/football-fall-10/schedule.htm

They (Shiloh Christian) went 14-1 with their only loss being a 80-26 beat down by Euless Trinity. They outscored opponents 711-261.

Quite a difference between Euless Trinity and Navasota. Rogers Heritage has around 2000 students and a mediocre win-loss record.
