This will be a battle. I'll give the edge to Argyle with College Station having to use 3 of its pitchers today in a long grinding battle with Lubbock Cooper.

May the best team win!

I think you right. Around 5 lead changes on CS game.question is do they anything left in tank after such a battle with a very tough LC team. Pulling for Coach Holder.Coach my grandson for 3 years at Cuero.Great Coach and Super Guy. Kids loved him at Cuero and I sure at CS.

Mushinski will get the start tomorrow evening. He's a power pitcher, but is still learning how to rein it in. Sometimes he just throws it too hard and loses his control around the plate. He has the tools, and can get in the groove....but he can get out of the groove just as quickly. If Mushinski can get Argyle thru 5 innings without too much damage, the Eagles have relievers that can get the job done, pitchingwise. They will need to plate some runs, play error-free smart defense, and capitalize with RISP. Every pitcher needs some run support and good defensive plays to help with the task. The Eagles need to give that to Parker for Argyle to win it all. I will admit I'm excited for the boyz to see how they will compete for the trophy. I do know one thing for sure......they will show up to win! It's all come down to this one game. Argyle has the pitching. CS has the bats. Which team will prevail? We will get our answer tomorrow evening. Good luck to each player and coach on both squads, and congratulations in advance for just being here.

Will the game be televised? Or will KMAC have any rights to a live telebroadcast like Sinton/Hidalgo? I can Listen Live on Sportsgram, but that's not the same as watching it.

Nope, it was the Argyle Girls Basketball team that lost in the State Finals to an undefeated LaVega team 47-42 this past season. The Argyle Boys Basketball team did not make it past the regional semis this season. The Argyle Boys Golf got 2nd to Andrews in the State Golf Championship, and the Argyle Girls 4x400 relay squad won State. Then there was the Texas Commit to Track that won State in the high hurdles and got 2nd in pole vault. He was a dback on the football team. Then we had a girl on the relay team get a scholarship to Texas in track and she's also made the cheerleader squad for the Longhorns. Then there's another girl going to TCU in volleyball . So I don't know how many Eagles there are that have Division 1 scholarships, but it's a whole bunch.....at least 15. I think the number in football ended up being about 8 or 9, and 3 or 4 in baseball, and then the girls, and maybe a few others for some other sports here and there.

Yes, as far as State Titles goes for Argyle so far in their short history, Girls Basketball(1), Boys Basketball(1), Football(1), and now trying for Baseball(?). Track has had many individual athletes over the years, as well as wrestling. A couple of soccer players, too. Some equestrian types, swimmers, but for major team sports.....pretty impressive resume for only the 13th year. The first year was 2A with only Fresh and Sophs. The second year had Jrs. and the first full year was when Coach Rodgers came in, I believe. That was the year my son was a Fresh. He was the Class of 2007. He got a track scholarship back then, and was on the team when we went to State in 2A against Newton in his junior season. We lost to Newton 28-20 on a freezing, drizzly night @ Tyler Rose Stadium, but that year started the whole shebang....in everything.

Mushinski is not "on" today, and the CS Cougars recognize it. They are delaying each pitch by stepping out the box, working counts, and causing a slowdown that seems to be affecting his groove. Argyle is doing just he opposite at the plate and swinging at first pitches, not be selective enough as they normally do, and seem a little too anxious to hit the ball. I believe Mushinski is being pulled for a Rixey Boyd, a righthanded reliever.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 07:48 PM
I was on the phone, but I believe CS scored 2 runs in that top of the 4th with all the wildness that happened for Mushinski in that inning.

06-05-2014, 07:49 PM
Score?

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 07:55 PM
Mushinski hit one against the fence for a double. Then advanced to 3rd on deep fly ball, scoring on a wild pitch. Boyzuick hits a hard liner to 3rd to end the inning.

CS 2
Argyle 1

End of 4th

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 07:56 PM
Rixey Boyd back on for the 4, 5, 6 hitters in the top of the 5th. One pitch, fly ball, one out for Boyd.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 07:56 PM
2 pitches, 2 outs for Boyd.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 08:01 PM
3 up, 3 down for Argyle in the top of the 5th. Argyle coming to bat in the bottom half now.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 08:02 PM
Geez, Argyle keeps attacking these first pitches and not looking at enough pitches. Too many ground ball easy outs.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 08:03 PM
Hines for SC is their ace on the mound, and he's moving along pretty good. I think Mushinski has 2 hits, and another one by McDonald....all the others have been put outs. Just not very many hits from either team here.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 08:06 PM
End of 5th

CS 2
Argyle 1

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 08:09 PM
Both teams have 2 hits and 2 errors so far, and a couple of pass balls(which aren't called errors). Both teams have hit the ball, but the put outs are all over the field for both squads.

3 up 3 down for Argyle again. Moving to bottom of the 6th now.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 08:10 PM
Hines faces # 9, 1, and 2 hitters this inning for CS.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 08:12 PM
Tyler Gibson leads off with a single past the 3rd baseman. It just got by him because he hit it hard.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 08:13 PM
Markwardt is up there now trying to bunt Gibson to 2nd. 3-1 now on Markwardt. He walks Markwardt.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 08:15 PM
Runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs for Argyle. Tanner Boyzuick up now. Will probably try to show bunt to draw the 3rd baseman in.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 08:16 PM
Excellent speed on the bases. Their catcher Baylor Rowlett is an excellent catcher. 2-0 to Boyzuick now.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 08:19 PM
Bunt was popped up, hit the ground, Gibson at 2nd holds and is put out at 3rd. The bunt was popped in the air, was not caught by the pitcher but hit his glove, then the catcher picked it up and fired it to 3rd for the put out. Gibson at 2nd was just frozen on the play.....he really couldn't go to 3rd. Just one of those plays.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 08:21 PM
Mushinski flies out in foul territory out in right with no advancing by the runners. 2 out now and catcher Rylie Balch up. Files out to center. No runs, one hit, 2 men left on base.

CS 2
Argyle 1

End of 6th

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 08:23 PM
The pop-up bunt led to an easy 1st out in the inning, then Mushinski and Balch hit fly outs. That's the way it goes. You just have to get the bunt down in that situation to get that runner to 3rd with one out. Then the fly outs can score a runner on a tag up of a fly ball or put more pressure on the pitcher. The bunt worked for CS and not for Argyle....the difference so far in this game.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 08:25 PM
Lead off walk to pinch hitter Staub. Top of the order up now with Walker Davis at the plate. Rixey Boyd still on the mound for Argyle here in the top of the 7th.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 08:27 PM
This guy has a name that sounds like a law firm, haha.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 08:29 PM
Davis sacrifice bunts Staub to 2nd. One out and here comes a pitching change for Argyle. Hunter Markwardt(lefty) coming in from right to pitch now for Argyle. He's a junior.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 08:30 PM
I guess they'll bring in a lefty against some lefty hitters coming up here.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 08:30 PM
Boyd did a great job in relief of Mushinski.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 08:32 PM
Pass ball on the 1st pitch moves the runner to 3rd with only one out. That pitch was low, but the catcher just didn't get in front of it and it got by him.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 08:33 PM
Jackson Grissom is up with a 3-1 count. Another law firm name, lol. Grissom hits it to 2nd, and the runner is put out at home. 2 outs on a great throw and play at home for Argyle.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 08:35 PM
Uh-oh. Markwardt hits the batter on the 2nd pitch. His curve didn't break. Runners on 1st and 2nd now with 2 outs. Now Baylor Rowlett is hit on the foot. It's all loaded up now. Markwardt has hit to hitters back to back, after 3 hit batters all year.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 08:37 PM
Bases loaded and the runner gets caught off 3rd. He gets in a rundown, and is tagged out on 3rd. He's out to end the inning.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 08:38 PM
Bottom of the 7th. CS needs 3 outs to win the title. Argyle needs a run to extend the game. This is what it comes down to now.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 08:39 PM
Brandon Boyzuick leads off with a single past 3rd. Cutter McDonald up now.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 08:41 PM
Boyzuick has speed at 1st. McDonald hits it to short, who stops it on a diving play with no place to make a play. Runners on 1st and 2nd now with no outs for Argyle. Here comes a pinch hitter for a bunt....I guarantee you. It will be Trey Roach to bunt.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 08:43 PM
The bunt is down but goes foul. Everybody would have been safe on that one. Now he takes a strike. 0-2 now. Here it comes. He bunts it and it goes foul. He's out. You have to get the bunt down fair. He comes Drew Gooch with one out. He may try to bunt it too.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 08:46 PM
Gooch lines it shortstop, tries to double off Boyzuick at 2nd, the ball is overthrown to right and the runners move up to2nd and 3rd. 2 outs with Tyler Gibson up. He hits it to 3rd, throw to 1st and the 1st baseman bobbles it. He's called safe at first while Argyle scores. This game may be tied. He may have hauled the ball back in before the runner hit the bag. The 1st baseman is adamant... Argyle still has a runner at 3rd and could win it here.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 08:48 PM
Hunter Markwardt is up. Flies out to center for the 3rd out in the inning. We're going to extra innings.

After 7 innings
Argyle 2
College Station 2

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 08:51 PM
Top of 8th
Mushinski goes down in right field with a cramp before the 1st pitch. Will take him out and replace him now. Markwardt is on the mound still. He's Argyle's big bat and was coming up in the bottom of the 8th.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 08:53 PM
Here we go...top of the 8th with CS batting. Kyle Richardson at bat now. Markwardt walks him on 4 pitches.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 08:59 PM
Uh-oh...Markwardt just walked another batter. Now it's runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs. Trouble on the base paths for Arygle. The Eagles will pull Markwardt and send him back to right field. Quinton Rockwell will come in to pitch for Argyle. You just hate to see that in a championship game when Markwardt has done a good job pitching all season. But it is what it is. These kids are under pressure and the pitcher has to make the batter swing. You have to put it over the plate in this situation.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 09:00 PM
Now CS will try to bunt, and Rockwell will have to field his position also. He will need to throw strikes and force the bunt.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 09:02 PM
He pops it up on the bunt attempt, but fouls it off out of play. 1-2 now....check swing. Will he bunt with 2 strikes? No, he swings and gets the bat on the ball for a tip foul.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 09:04 PM
3-2 now on a close outside corner pitch. Ground ball thru the hole at 2nd for a single. Bases loaded now for CS. Good job hitting there for CS with a full count.

Great play by play commentary!

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 09:05 PM
Argyle is in deep do-do now with no outs and the bases loaded. The pitcher has to throw strikes and anything can happen now. 0-2 on the hitter.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 09:06 PM
He needs a double play to get get out of this jam.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 09:09 PM
It's now 2-2, fouled back to stay alive. Bases loaded, 3-2 now, no pressure here, right? Here it comes, checks swing, did not go, and walks in a run. 3 walks in this inning with no outs and bases still loaded. you have to get the batter to swing at it.....throw strikes. He had him 0-2 and lost him.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 09:11 PM
Strike out, now top of the order is coming up with the law firm names and the bases still loaded.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 09:12 PM
Walker Davis is up now. Might try to sacrifice squeeze, or just make him throw 2 strikes on him. It's 2-0 to Davis.

Foul ball, but he can't afford to walk another one in. He needs to groove one. Here comes a ground ball that forces the out at home. The runner going to first was on the inside part of the baseline, but you have to throw the ball to first for them call baserunner out.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 09:19 PM
Jackson Grissom lines one to right and Markwardt fields it on one hop. It scores 2 runs with 2 outs. Clutch hit there and Markwardt didn't chance the dive for the line drive. If it gets by him, it would have been an inside the park homer, more than likely. 5-2 CS now. Still 2 outs. The 3 walks in this inning just killed the Eagles with the top of the order up and no outs. Rockwell gets a fly ball for the 3rd out. Argyle coming to bat, but it looks dismal for the Eagles now.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 09:20 PM
Tanner Boyzuick lines one hard to right field for the first out of the inning. It was lined hard, but close enough for the right fielder to make the play.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 09:21 PM
Parker Mushinski is up. He singled, doubled, and fouled out to right field. Full count now to Parker.

regaleagle
06-05-2014, 09:22 PM
Ball four to Mushinski with one out. Riley Balch is up now. 1-1 on Riley, he's hit the ball every time so far.

1-1 to Boyzuick now. Outside corner...2 strikes. 2-2 now to Boyzuick. 3-2 now to Boyzuick. Full count with runner on 2nd . Grounds out to 3rd base. Game over as College Station is the Class 3A State Baseball Champions. They dogpile in the middle of the infield as the celebaration starts for the Cougars. The Eagles took it all the way to the 8th inning tonite in a game they played not too well, but hung in there til the pitching caused some gamekiller walks. They played well on defense, and hit the ball well all night, albeit right to the fielders most of the night. Congrats to the College Station Cougars on a great season.....pretty much start to finish #1 all year. Argyle has nothing to hang their heads about this season, just didn't go their way tonite. They had a great season and had a chance to win it all. The pitching wasn't up to regular standards tonite for one reason or another, and that eventually caused their downfall. But I will have to say CS did what good teams do and took full advantage of the circumstances. I guess this ends the sports this season in this school year. It's been a highly successful one for the Argyle Eagles, and now for the College Station Cougars. The final score is 5-2 College Station in 8 innings.
