I would hope they all spent it honoring our fallen servicemen and women.

What a difference a week makes! The Gilmer Buckeye varsity 7on7 team sent notice to Buckeye fans and the rest of East Texas at the ETBU 7on7 Tournament in Marshall that their struggles last week at the Azalea Orthopedic 7on7 Tournament at Buckeye Stadium were just a hiccup, and they are a dedicated and determined group of young men who will NEVER give up!

The Bucks, just a week after exiting in the quarterfinals at Buckeye Stadium, surprised everyone at ETBU’s Ornelas Stadium last Saturday by beating the odds and knocking down two powerful powerhouse football giants in the Semi-Finals and the Finals. Gilmer bested Shreveport Evangel Christian 38-30 by bouncing back from a 14-22 halftime deficit in the semi-final game, and then came back from a 26-33 halftime deficit to trounce the Longview Lobos 54-33 in the finals to claim the Championship.

Gilmer trailed at one point or another in five of the six games they played on the day, but went a perfect 6-0 to claim the title. In their first game at 8:30 am, they defeated the Lindale Eagles 34-26. They were down 7-13 before tying the game 13-13 at the half. They went up 20-13 and never trailed again

Great tournament with great competitors: Lindale 4A, Elysian Fields 2A, Marshall 4A, Daingerfield 2A, Evangel 5A, & Longview 5A

I was expecting State 7on7 to vote in the offseason to require teams to go ahead and play out to qualify for State Tourney.

And why not? You keep score to see who wins...this is very important...if winning is not important, why bother keeping score...we play finals, if we make it that far...now, on to Commerce

They played out in the semis...no one plays the championship games anymore...any relationship between 7 on 7 and real football is purely coincidental...
