Seminole ISD has named Kent Jackson as its next head football coach and boys athletic director.

At a meeting Monday night, the school board unanimously approved the hiring of the Seminole native, who most recently was the head football coach/athletic director at Class 5A Lubbock Coronado, according to former Seminole Sentinel managing editor Dustin Wright who was in attendance.

The move to Class 3A Seminole (to be 4A next season) marks the sixth head coaching stop for Jackson, who has posted a career record of 128-88-1 at Coronado, Frisco Heritage, Sweetwater, Olney and Roby.

Jackson led Sweetwater to the postseason in all eight seasons (2001-2008) at the helm, recording a 78-26 record with the Mustangs including a 17-8 postseason mark, reaching the state quarterfinals three times.

From 1995-2000 Jackson led Olney to 45 wins and reached the state quarterfinals in 2000, losing to eventual state champion Sonora.

Jackson served as an Odessa High assistant and head boys track coach from 1988-1995, leading the Bronchos to the 1992 state track championship.

Over the past three seasons at Coronado, the Mustangs were just 5-25, including back-to-back 2-8 seasons.

Jackson replaces former Seminole head coach Chris Burtch, who submitted his resignation on March 3 and was hired two days later to be the head football coach at Frisco Liberty.

Burtch guided the Indians to a 63-52 overall record in 10 years, including eight trips to the postseason, but the team posted back-to-back 3-7 records and missed the playoffs each of the last two seasons.
