Gilmer junior and star WR Desmond Pollard passed away this afternoon from a heart attack.

He found out a couple of weeks ago that he had something wrong with his heart and only a few test had been started.

He was playing a pickup game of basketball when he fell out. Not sure if he passed there or at the hospital.

Dez was a great athlete and even better person. He was always had a smile on his face and made others around him smile. He will be missed.

Still in shock over this.

Here is a typical Desmond Pollard play:

Makes absolutely no sense. Just a shame. An absolute heartbreaking shame. Desmond had no ceiling to his future. Fantastic athlete and fantastic kid. Just a shocking blow to the Buckeye family. We will miss you bud. You made us all so proud that you were part of the Buckeye family.

Sad news. Prayers for all concerned. I am an old man and one of the hardest thing about getting old is when people pass away that you expected to be around long after you were gone. It is hard.

This is a huge loss for all of us Buckeye fans, but it pales in comparison to the feelings felt by those family members and close friends. He had many close friends. It seems the whole town is in mourning. A really somber mood around Gilmer right now. Not only was Dez a heck of an athlete, he was an even better young man. God, please be with his family, and his close friends, during this time of need.

That is a really tough one. Dez will certainly be missed. We did not know him personally but all indications are that he did things the right way and was a Great kid. We did however know him on the football field and he certainly did things the right way there. A great competitor, a force to be reckoned with, a class act. He will be missed. Our thoughts and prayers now turn to the Gilmer team and community. A lesson learned that tomorrow is not promised for any of us....no matter the age. Hang in there Gilmer.
