I bet he will just be HC while Supt remains AD.

O'Connor actually used to work for Huey, he was an assistant on his staff in the mid/late '90's. How does Chancellor do things? The right way. If you dont buy in to what he is trying to accomplish, you will be miserable. If you buy in, you will succeed. He is everything you want in a Texas high school football coach. Tough, hard nosed, intense, old school, smart, etc. Some people didn't like him. It happens at every school across the country. It's usually the kids who caused problems, didn't take care of business, didn't work hard, or just flat out weren't good enough to play. Or, of course, parents who think their kids should play but didn't. Most of Bellville was upset that we lost him. I will tell you this, if he can get Kirk Collier (OC at Columbus), and Jamie Valentine (recently fired HC of Needville) to join him at Edna, watch out. Those 2 guys are some of the sharpest offensive & defensive minds in the state.

There was a lot of negotiation that went on before he accepted the job.

If he agreed to take just the HC position I can assure you it was with the understanding that the Superintendent not interfere with football at all.

Also, if O'Connor has operated that way before, it is because he was holding all of the cards.

That was not the case here. They had to sell Huey on the job, not the other way around.

Cards? You mean holding all the Cardinals.

What is interesting to me is one reason he is coming (according to someone very close to the process) is because of O'Connor. But if you listen to Snotbubbles or Teetle, they'll say no coach in their right mind would work for O'Connor.
I think I'll go with Coach Chancellor on this one. He is not coming to Edna because he is desperate, he is coming because he thinks it is a good job.
I think we've got us a heck of a coach.

I concur, Huey is a very good coach. Never said he wasn't. Now, that AD/Supt, is something else. I just think the AD at Columbus, should have a say in their coaching staff's. Least know when one is hired without the AD's knowledge. Just sayin!!

I like those two, but that is kind of a stretch.

This is a great move for Edna. If Huey were to land Collier and Valentine as his coordinators, Edna could be a big player in the coming years. The years that they had together in Bellville were all good years. I don't remember a year where they didn't at least make the playoffs when they were in our district.

I'm sure it will just be a matter of time as Edna grows that they will be in the new Class 4A

Edna isn't really growing. We've been roughly the same size for the last 15 years or so. We were in the old 3A a while back, then we were on the fence moving back and forth from 3A to 2A for a bit and have been solidly in 2A (the new 3A now) for the last few years. I think we usually have around 430 students which is now a good bit under the new 4A cutoff and I don't see us gaining enough to move up tbh.

Regarding the new coaching staff, I read in the Victoria Advocate that Collier will be in the new DC for us and it mentioned that Lane O'Connor will coming from Columbus as well but no mention of what he is going to do here in Edna.
