Kodi Crane from Groesbeck, Texas. Coach Crane will be coming to Gonzales to take over the athletic department as early as next week.
Don't know how many coaches he will bring with him, but his brother is OC at San Angelo Central.

That is great to hear. I know he didn't have the best record in the world at Groesbeck, but I also know that the district Groesbeck played in is plenty tough. We have some pretty good athletes returning next year including an all-state running back and an all state db. There's other talent there as well. Looking forward to seeing what he can do with it all. Apache nation lost a good man, but I think they have found another good one. What kind of offense does he run? Sounds like he is a defensive specialist from his background at San Angelo Central.

Bad hire in my opinion. I also know that he was slapped around by some smaller 2A schools like Teague. The only good school in the district this year was Fairfield. The fans will not be happy in the next few.

Wow you don’t have many friends do you.
Good luck Gonzo hope the kids love the new coach and I wish the Apaches success in the upcoming season with the exception of the Cuero game.

Not saying I agree with everything here but it is sad when you have a solid coach and then politics gets involved, Coach Locke did not deserve this from what I have been told.

Bad hire?

In the 5 years prior to Coach Crane, Groesbeck was 11-39 with 6 of those wins coming in 2010
In 2 seasons under Coach Crane, Groesbeck was 10-12 with two playoff appearances against basically the exact same opposition

Slapped around by 2A schools?

In 2012, Groesbeck defeated Whitney 38-14, Teague 52-44 and Palestine Westwood 40-0
In 2013, Groesbeck defeated Whitney 39-34 lost to Teague 56-22 in a game that saw 4 offensive starters injured, and defeated Palestine Westwood 30-13

He runs the semi-hyper spread...you won't see too many huddles if it's anything like in Groesbeck

good deal. ----------
In five years prior to Coach Lock, Gonzales was 16-36. His record in 5 years in Apacheland was 43-16 with 2 quarterfinal appearances which hadn't been done at that school since the 1960"s. You can see why some might say that is a strange hire. Good luck to the new coach.

So how is the environment in Gonzales?

It's about the buy in from the athletes....get that and things will be alright.

Nothing is wrong with the environment- The kids work hard here. The last few classes have been much more talentd in track and football as opposed to baseball and basketball. It runs in cycles like for a majority of schools.
