Question is "How many of these did they actually recruit?" Coaches recruit by regions/areas, not by positions. Also Strong was at some very high profile schools ( Florida for 11 years) that attract very high caliber prospects.

Sumlin coached at Oklahoma for 5 years and Texas A&M, now SEC power house, for 2 years. The fact that Strong was at these high profile schools says a lot more about his career path.

No doubt. Interesting comparison.

His resume says he was at A&M in 1985. I was on the team in '85 and don't remember him, of course I cannot remember what I had for lunch yesterday.

You list all the players at Florida that he coached as the Co-DC/LBs. He only coached the 5 draftee LB's during that time.
His first stint at Florida from 91-94 coaching DT's is more impressive.

I think that besides the two different carreer paths, they are very different in their coaching philosophies and I like his.

Was taking years off wiki. I thought he was defensive coordinator all 8 years there?

Yes he was. Generally the DCs are a position coach too and 99% of the time they coach the LB's. That is why I said he was more impressive when he was a DT coach because he put more players that he personally coached into the NFL in a much shorter time period. They were "his guys".

If you read some coaches bios they will mention specific players that they personally coached. Like the new DLine coach at North Texas . His specifically mentions he coached Jason Pierre Paul at UCF. Same for North Texas's OC Mike Canalas, specifically mentions coaching Phillip Rivers as the QB coach at NC State.

True true. I think Texas will try and pull in more OOS recruits for the 2015 till the relationships are built within the state and the 2016 class will be 95% Texas kids.

I also like his philosophy on recruiting.

Recruit 10 best players regardless of positions based on their evaluation, then recruit 10 players that are best at position needs based on evaluation, and save 5 spots for late bloomers.

this was my very first thought to reading OT's post. I thought he had finally seen the light, and was willing to prove that the SEC is head and shoulders above everybody.
