I want to know who they turned down for week 2. Matt Stepp said they turned a team down. I really think it would be advantageous to go look for a good East Tx team with speed.

I would guess it was S'ville or some other GOOD team. I agree, now that they dropped the 2 byes( Dallas schools). Ive said from the start they needed to schedule every e. Texas school they could. Kilgore would be perfect, they need the same week. I won't hold my breathe though

Hillsboro was 3-8 last year and got blown out by Liberty Hill in the first round.
The year before that, they couldn't make the playoffs in a 5 team district.
If they are on your 'competitive' list then GR should go 10-0.

I myself wondered how we got suckered into that BS schedule. At the same time I doubt it had anything to do with travel issues. We went to OK to play a mediocre west texas team twice. They turned down games with multiple GOOD teams during the last realignment .

Need to play an East Texas team to prepare for the speed. Argyle will be a good test of speed, strength and power, but for some reason East Texas teams can bring the speed.

You don't have to go East Texas to find teams with speed. Celina just needs to bump up to a higher classification and play Royce City, one of the Forney Teams, Little Elm, Frisco, Lovejoy, heck try Lancaster they have tons of speed.

I hope this is true! If so, glad it's week 5. Give the Dawgs some time to gel, so we can crack some nuts! This should be an awesome game before both teams begin district play.

Yeah buddy I'm ready for that game! Great pre district selections for Gilmer to get them ready early.

You don't have to go East Texas to find teams with speed. Celina just needs to bump up to a higher classification and play Royce City, one of the Forney Teams, Little Elm, Frisco, Lovejoy, heck try Lancaster they have tons of speed.

Royse City is awful as is Little Elm.

Stay in 4A and schedule Carter. They will be 4A-1 team next year and always have D1 talent. They were a 4A playoff team this year.

That is a strong schedule that Argyle has put together. I am especially impressed with the Denison game. Probably saw us talking how Celina needs to schedule them and low and behold they go and do it. Anyone ever find out who Celina declined to play?

Whats that old saying TO BE THE BEST PLAY THE BEST. I for one think the group of boys we have for next year have the making of having a darn good team, the boys will need to step up. This past year we had our share of bad happenings, we lost alot of starters due to injuries and some kids just being bone heads (Seniors), leadership was at a minimum, this year they brought up 10-11 from our jv trough out the year. This by no means an excuse because the boys still have to play and the coaches have to coach. Don't hate on Celina every school have their ups and downs but you know Celina has made the playoffs I believe 21 years straight and this was the first time in many years they did not make it out of the 1st round and I am sure there are alot of schools that wish they could just make the playoffs.

If or when we lose Scott Surratt, then yes, our empire will fall. Or it will at least decline. Until then, Fear the C! I personally don't think we lose Surratt, but it is always a possibility. We have a pipeline of naturally gifted athletes, and one of the best coaches in the state. Thats a recipe for success.

Hey that was a rude comment, but you know your point is very valid. Celina hasn't played very good honestly since the 2008 season. Something drastic has changed since that time.

It is not my place at all to question any teams coaching staff, but if you look at history its not too hard to determine what this "drastic" change is. GA Moore = HS Legend. Butch Ford = HS Legend. Ford from 2005 - 2008 takes them to 4 state championships winning 2. 2009 tough season. 2010 came back strong, only to be beaten by a school on its way to 4a. 2011 beat by a strong team who had just came off a Championship the previous year, and almost doubled the Celina enrollment. Then come 2012 & 2013...Beat up on inferior teams, and get absolutly blown out by any team with a pulse. Again this is just the facts from an outside observer. I am by no means disrespecting Celina coaching staff, and have no idea what goes on in their program. Maybe 2012 & 2013 were just bad seasons, and are not the norm. Maybe these teams I am saying "blew" out Celina were actually really upper echelon teams. I don't know. This is just an observation.

You are correct. Those lines of 2006-2008 had guys like Daniel Antwiler (Best hit I have ever seen at a high school football game), Troy Franklin , CJ Nelson, Adam Thomas, and Jaime Blatnick. Linebackers like Austin Wyatt, Cody Wright and Caleb Lavy that were flat out mean and flew to the ball. Then the little guy with the biggest heart, Breck Holman (He made a D1 300 pound tackle from Brownsboro look terrible). D-Backs line D'Anton Lynn, Running backs like Seth Davis, Troy McCartney and Charley Waldrep.

Folks it's not all coaching. It's the Jonnys and Joes.

FYI, that OT from Brownsboro was Lonnie Edwards he went on to Tech and I think he's still on the Denver Broncos roster. I was at that game and Holman gave BB fits. Celina had some very good players during those years. I watched them play at least a half dozen times during that time frame and your right it wasn't all X&O's. There were some studs wearing them ugly orange uni's.

Celina WILL play an early game with Argyle(no longer in their district) that they NEED to win. If they win that one...and I personally think they will...it will slingshot them into a beast of a team for the rest of the season....just mark my words. Watch out for this game....a loss won't hurt Argyle that early....but for both teams this is a good game on the schedule early. Just my opinion.

Celina is not close to being a Argyle caliber team. Hell, read the boards. Their own folks mention it. Think the kid's buy into it too, after hearing the backers bash it and the coaching staff there. Not the Celina of old.

I'm being totally honest here, and I hope I don't offend anybody, but...our JV could probably win this district. After being in the District of Doom for four years, this should be a walk in the park. The Buckeyes kinda got shafted this realignment because this schedule will most DEFINITELY hurt Gilmer ISD financially with more travel and less gate revenue. This is one Buckeye fan who will absolutely miss the District of Doom. There were GOTW matchups weekly in the District of Doom. I am certainly glad to see Carthage on our schedule, though! Yippee!

I would be upset if I was a gilmer fan. Two home games all season and both being late october at that .season tickets holders should have a massive reduce cost. Hopefully y'all can flip for a home playoff game for once instead of Tyler.

Yippee!

Y'all can start a new undeated district slate y'all used to Bragg about.

Oh and yes before you say it my teams bites and gilmer would put 60 on Henderson again.

Wow. Your right in complaining about your district placement. You'll be healthy come playoff time, but--not being tested 6 weeks prior to first playoff game could be an issue.

The Varsity will also be playing on Thursday night as the Junior Varsity...need the work

We have no choice but to start a district win streak, silly. We lost our last district game to Kilgore last season. We are still 63-2 in our last 65 district games. Streaks are not uncommon for us.

Besides Alvarado, all I know is they play Iowa Park in Week 2 (location TBD) and host Gainesville Oct. 31.

We look forward to joining you in our new District 5...Bullard has been in our district for several years, Rains was several years ago for awhile and we have played Canton in playoffs a few times. Our fans show up early in mass, loud & proud, generally take out the Visitor Snack Bar before kick-off, and play a very fast brand of ball. Been running the Spread forever with several variations. A starter for us is a senior who has earned the honor of the first down...after that, we start our rotation of fresh ones...we have no #1 jersey ever...we have a lot of #1 guys...look forward to the new blood...oh, we are opinionated, fast (East Texas Speed Kills - just ask Celina), well conditioned, well coached, Home of the Black Flag Defense (aka Rabid Spider Monkeys), and fortunate to live in a town well next season starts on the Monday following the State Championship Weekend. Oh, I forgot to mention modest.

Unfortunately, it looks like I may have to miss a couple of the away games. To go to the Melissa game would require my taking a half-day off, and the Rains game would require my getting off a couple of hours early. I probably won't be able to work those out, but I'm definitely gonna try. I miss being in the District of Doom, for sure. Closer teams, old rivalries and budding rivalries, big gates, and less travel have had us spoiled. I do look forward to playing different teams, but it won't be the same..., no offense to any of the other teams intended.
