From Texas 247

Chris Nelson, a defensive tackle out of Lakeland, Fla., and Nick Harvey, a cornerback/receiver out of Fort Bend Travis, are both in Austin.

Nelson was expected for the visit but Harvey is a big surprise.

A Texas A&M commitment for almost a year, Harvey has made a couple of unofficial visits to Texas before. But this is an official visit, and Harvey told multiple reporters he wouldn't be making the trip to Austin.

Texas coach Charlie Strong met with Harvey earlier this week at his high school and apparently convinced the blue chipper to visit Austin yet again.

What does all of this mean? Just how serious is Harvey about the Longhorns?

Only time will give us the real answer. But it appears the interest in the Horns by Harvey is legitimate.

We'll be following the story this week...

**

Nelson is one of two defensive tackles the Horns have targeted. The 6-foot-2, 295-pounder visited South Florida last weekend and is set to see Central Florida this upcoming weekend.

Prior to Charlie Strong coming to Texas, Nelson was leaning heavily to Louisville. In other words, the relationship that has been built between Nelson and a couple of the Texas coaches precedes their hiring in Austin.

Nelson has told multiple reporters, including Horns247, that he is leaning to the Horns and could make a decision soon after his official visit.

After not taking any defensive tackles last year and having no defensive tackles committed in this recruiting class, Nelson is a must-get for the Horns this year. The Horns like his size, quickness, athleticism and motor. He could play early in his career because of those factors.

A couple of Texas commitments are visiting elsewhere this weekend.

Safety John Bonney of Houston Lamar is at Baylor with two of his high school teammates. Wide receiver Lorenzo Joe of Abilene Cooper is visiting TCU.

**

The Texas City duo of D'Onta and Armanti Foreman had their official visits to Missouri cancelled because of poor weather.

D'Onta, a RB, is said to like Missouri's lagging depth chart, while Armanti, named the Greater Houston offensive player of the year by the Houston Touchdown Club, would be a blue chip catch for any program.

**

Both Baylor and Texas A&M are hosting major junior days Sunday.

Aware of that and not wanting to play too much catch-up on next year's class, the Texas assistant coaches and head coach Charlie Strong spent most of this past week on the road identifying prospects for the 2015 class.

We'll have to see if any of those trips bear fruit or perhaps delayed a potential commitment to Baylor or Texas A&M this weekend.

**

Wide receiver Emanuel Porter of Dallas Lincoln is set to visit Texas Jan. 31. Porter is visiting LSU this weekend and has already made a trip to TCU.

Porter is committed to TCU but it looks like it could be a recruitment that comes down to the wire. At the same time, we wouldn't be surprised if Porter commits to LSU this weekend. It's just been that sort of topsy-turvy recruitment for one of the state's top receivers.

**

The only news on Cy Falls linebacker Otaro Alaka is that there is no new news.

Alaka, who hosted both Charlie Strong and Kevin Sumlin for in-home visits Thursday, has not made a decision between Texas and Texas A&M.

Alaka initially committed to Texas over Texas A&M but after the coaching change in Austin, he decided to visit A&M last weekend.

Of course, this is yet another storyline we'll be following closely and provide any updates we get.
