Columbia, Sweeny load up all district list

Both Columbia and Sweeny garnered playoff spots in District 24-3 this past season.

Along with that came some accolades from the gridiron on the all-district list as selected by district coaches.

Sweeny senior Dorland Fields ran all over opponents this past season. The running back was named co-offensive player of the district, along with Stafford’s Adrian Seales.

Another tailback who gave opponents fits with his feet was Columbia sophomore Dakarius Bell as he was named the newcomer of the year.

The most valuable player of the district was La Marque’s Reggie Franklin with teammates, Ladarrian Ellis-Jones the athlete of the year and Val Allen as the defensive most valuable player.

La Marque’s coaching staff was named the staff of the year.

Landing on the first team for the Bulldogs were junior running back Anthany Simmons, senior tight end, Jeoffrey Montalvo, senior offensive lineman Justin Ferguson and junior Coby Way, junior defensive lineman Phillip Higgins and junior defensive back Blayne Bailey.

For Columbia on the first team were junior quarterback Jarius Kesee, junior tight end Dennis Moody, senior offensive linemen, Quinn Hendrick, Phillip Martinez, Hendrick was also first team defensive lineman, senior linebacker Colton Jones, senior defensive back LaMarquis Fields and senior punter Zach Dodds.

The rest of the first team were La Marque running back Daequan Jones, wide receiver Michael Hardeman, offensive linemen Tarren Gaines, Marquez Baker, kicker Ricky Guillen, defensive lineman Kenneth Edwards, linebacker Herb Smith and defensive back Chason Douglas; Stafford wide receiver Taylor Givens, linebacker Darius Hughes and defensive back T’Andre Thomas; KIPP Sunnyside wide receiver Lawrence Mallet, offensive lineman Dixie Wooten III, defensive lineman Tyrell Boyd, linebacker Sammie Franklin and defensive back Willie Gabriel.

Second team members for Columbia were, Brodney Thomas, Moody, Tyler Rathkamp, Hunter Grayson and Jarron Freeman; Sweeny had Isidro Robles, Cody Neyland, Keyshawn Clark and Brendan Frankum; La Marque’s Alan Cooper, Demetrius James, Marquel Dupree, Justin Britton, Isiah Hall and Carl Simms; Stafford’s Samson Bankole, Anh Trinh, Nate Endsley, Josh Uluocha, Jerick Pitre and Wesley Huff; Sunnyside’s David Lopez.

Honorable mention honors went to Sweeny’s Camron Borders, Derek Davis, Michael French, Ross Nairn, Justin Pettigrew and Taylor Robertson.
