Am I missing it, or is Ralston from Argyle not on the list?

Two of the three Sweetwater players mentioned are juniors and play on both sides of the ball. Also, both play all six of these positions - RB,WR,LB,DB,KR and PR.

Congrats to both of them.

Ralston is not on the list. It looks like we only have a couple of good players by this list. Must have been the easy schedule.

It looks as though they tried to include a few from every district in the state.
Almost like making sure they had all their bases covered. lol

I read somewhere that the list was based only on regular season stats - no post season stats included. So if it wasn't posted to Maxpreps, then.....

Also read that the Texas State Sports Writers list will come out later after the post season and will include post season stats to develop the list of nominees.

Argyle players have a bigger prize than this list.
A lot of good players around the state that aren't in the SC game.

Those voters don't really know anything....they go by the season stats. If they knew the players and some of the circumstances, the voting would be different. The coaches poll is usually alot closer to reality. Ralston, Sadler, and Conner Wilson are first teamers all day long. I don't know how they didn't have Micah Capra first team on defense.

I would say that the way he presented his argument is easy for you to shoot it down. However, there are not any on that list that can play with him, so yes basically that alone would warrant him being on the list. There are other metrics that can justify that stance as well but that is an easy place to start.

Agree with Sadler and Wilson...Ralston is great, but not much room at RB with those three seniors...haven't seen Rose yet, saw the other two in playoffs, scary good.

From what I read - there is no voting - its just based on regular season stats.

I didn't word the above post very well. Bray Amos and Isaiah McGee are the juniors and I didn't mean to snub the senior Kaleb Hoover. He is a good
all around athlete who started at FS and WR, is probably our best player on our basketball team and the center fielder on our baseball team.

Congrats to all three for making the list.

Remember that these are selections of Sports reporters and they are sometimes very subjective to players in their own area. Also, the players have to be nominated by the coaches to be on the ballot I think. Teams still in the playoffs have coaches that are busy with other things and don't have time to worry about nominating for this team. How much regional news coverage your team gets makes all the difference in this poll.

Blake Bogenschutz is the best 3a QB in the state this year hands down. He will probably be player of the year on the other list. Close to 4000 yards passing with 55 TD and 3 int speaks for itself. This is his year. I congratulate him. Maybe Stidham will prove to be the better QB, but if you ask me from looking at film I say one is way overrated, and one is way underrated. Come to Jerry World at noon, and he will make a believer out of you. I have a funny feeling he is going to cap off an impressive HS career with a big time performance against the best defense in 3a.

He did a great job against us , we had no way of stopping him with the WR he had. I am not knocking the kid but his throwing motion and arm slot looked a little funny, his arm strength seemed a little weak on the deep ball but does throw the short to intermediate routes very well . Like I said not knocking him and have only seen him play one time, I think he is an athlete that UTSA will find a place for him to play however I would be surprise somewhat if he ends up at QB. Also Congrats to him on a great season and career at Carthage.

..........
Yes, AP all-state teams are not to be taken seriously. Terrance Cuney was a stud RB for Jasper; not a lineman. Terrell Cuney was OL, verbally committed to UT and selected to the Army All America game in San Antonio in January. But not good enough for all-state? Go figure this out!.

Kid was throwing lasers around the field against LG. The arm strength is their, and what sets this kid apart is smarts. IMO you are absolutely wrong about him not playing QB at UTSA. Besides he can't play another position. What position would it be? This is not the type of kid that moves to WR or returns kicks. I respectfully say you don't know what you are talking about. I guess he didn't look all that good against LG. Only 394 yards and 6 TDs in the state semi-final. I think UTSA got a steal, and alot of other people think the same thing.

I don't think they go by stats.

Van had a RB that averaged 173 yards rushing per game through 11 games for 1901 total yards rushing plus 13 catches for 145 receiving yards. 22 td's total.
Van also had a LB that had 145 tackles through 11 games.
Neither player was received a mention for all state (or all district - which is criminal)

However, Van had 2 other players on the all state list. 1 2nd team DE and 1 HM OL. Both of these players attended summer camps and are being recruited to some extent. Btw, the OL who was HM all state got nothing in the all district voting, lol.

All 4 of these players are good HS football players, however, the two that received all state honors were the two that will play college ball.

All state appears to me to be more about name recognition/prospects/marketing. All district is even worse its a popularity contest controlled by politics. From what I've seen stats don't mean that much.

I don't think those RB numbers are better than the ones listed in the all state teams. I know our RB had >1900 yards in TEN games and over 25 TDs and only got honorable mention... So don't feel too hurt

All-District teams and some of the All-State teams have a lot to do with how well the coach promotes certain kids.
Stats are one way coaches are able to promote a particular kid.
And yes, politics and influence do play a role in who gets selected.
They usually try to spread the recognition around it a bit.
In a way it reminds me of how some small town Little League All-Star teams are picked.

Anyway, congrats to the kids that made the list, it is an honor they can carry with them the rest of their lives.
The majority of them won't be playing football past high school.

Is that with shoes on? I looked him up and some sites have him listed as 5'11" others 5'11-1/2" but even at 6'1" that might be the problem. Recruiting is all on projection. Anything shorter than 6'3" at QB is not ideal. There is always exceptions but the norm is 6'3" and taller. Stidham is 6'3" about 190 right now. I guess the film you watched is misleading. He runs a 4.5-4.6 forty and I won't even talk about the arm strength. So with that being said it's possible that your QB is being underrated but I know without a doubt Stidham is not overrated. Btw- congratulations on the win and the State Championship.

I didn't really mean in recruiting as far as being underrated. I meant as far as HS 3a QB on this board. Bogie went to a school where he will have the possibility to be a starter in a couple of years. IMO he went to play where he should have. I have know doubt Stidham will prove to be a better QB, just not this year. Bogie had better stats, and lead a better team to state championship. I was talking only in a all state team, you would have to put him above Studham this year. Breaking down film, sure Stidham would be more impressive, but that's not what all state teams are about. They are about the most outstanding players in a season. I will say this though I have no doubt they got player of the year right...Larry Rose is freakin unbelievable. IMO you put him and Sadler on a team with an offensive line and defense like Carthage and they are going to give any team hell regardless of classification. Those were the 2 best players I have seen at the 3a level since Jaxon Shipley.
