Well who expected Sinton to get this far? Congrats on a great season so far. Proud for Reg 4 to have a tradition rich program representing, or should I say repreSinton!

Fairfield will be another animal from all we've heard this season. Good luck to both and congrats to Fairfield as well for making it this far. I picked Fairfield in my bracket so I've gotta hold true to that, but give 'em hell Sinton! ;)

I love that... "repreSinton"! Win or lose, our boys always give 'em hell. The worst thing a team can do is underestimate us. Never underestimate the heart of a pirate! It can bite you in the arse if you do. We may not be bigger, we may not be faster, but we're also not afraid! We Love our Mighty Sinton Pirates! :2thumbsup:inlove:

Have heard a lot of talk about Fairfield, however I heard a lot of talk about La Vernia and the unbeatable, huge, quick, bend but don't break defense and Sinton beat that defense. No doubt this game will be a tough one but I have faith in the pirates and #piratenation. Sinton is peaking at the right time. Go Sinton.

I read much of this as well. Coach Allen had a great game plan for both sides of the ball and the players executed. So many teams are playing thump thump right now, but you guys are in the Semis and are gelling at the right time.

Sinton fans should be happy I am taking Fairfield, my Coastal Bend picks have sucked...took Calallen to win the region, they get beat....picked Alamo Heights to beat Calhoun that didnt work out...picked East Bernard to beat Refugio and that went against me....Sinton fans can go ahead and make hotel plans in Arlington at this rate!

Sinton gonna have to play a very very solid game to beat Fairfield! The one thing the Pirates do have in their favor is pressure-they shouldn't have any. Fairfield is gonna be heavily favored and rightly so! But if they go into the game over-confident and start makin mistakes, Sinton might have a chance.

Fairfield has been on the right side of multiple turnovers in the first two or three series of every big game they play in. If Sinton wants to have a chance they have to not give them the freebies that Fairfield has grown accustomed to in the big ones

If Sinton wants to have a chance they have to not give them the freebies that Fairfield has grown accustomed to in the big onesFairfield will see a power running game out of the shotgun formation and they can pound the ball with the qb and their 3 running backs that come in at certain times and Sinton started off as a passing team before going to the power running game so they can air it out also. All this happens if Sinton offensive line continues to control the line of scrimmage.

Rockdale averaged 41 ppg coming in. Qb was a 3,000 yard passer and 600 yard rusher. Also had a 1500 yard back. Very balanced football team. FF is very solid against the run, hope Sinton can chunk it around some

Sinton defense will be the key if they can stop that high power scoring machine by Fairfield, Sinton comes in giving up an average in their last 6 games(55 pts) 9.1 pts/game. Have to look up the stats again but don't think any team has gotten over 300 yds of offense on Sinton defense last 7 games.

Sinton qb stats for this season and career, he's a junior this season:
This year totals
Rush 2485 Pass 1531 Total 4016 yards
Touchdowns
Rushing 37 Passing 12 Total 49 touchdowns

Career stats
Rushing 4747 Passing 4609 Total 9356 yards

It is funny for me and Coach we have always represented FF on the downlow and always debated with all these Sinton posters and after all these years our towns are finally meeting in this huge game to go to the state championship.

Having seen fairfield several times this year i think their defense is lucky, not good, no one seems real disciplined at any spot. they seem opportunistic and selfish, every one from the nose to the safeties out to make a play. Sinton's running game should wreak havoc with the undersized backers.

You can't do what Fairfield's defense has done and be selfish. "everyone from the nose to the safeties out to make a play"? Of course they are. Isn't that their job? All I can say is WOW. If holding opponents to the minimal yardages and points that the Fairfield defense has is selfish I for one will take it. I can say that you couldn't be more wrong. A Argyle/Fairfield match up would be epic. When I hear chatter of FF being kinda like the '83 Daingerfield team (best team I ever seen), this would be one of the all time best state title contest's IMO. If both play their game this week, it should come about in the final. Take care of business, and make it happen for the Texas High School football fan's out there. Wow!!!

You can tell FF knows their weakness is the defensive front. Everything is packed in to stop the run. The man coverage is going to get torched eventually (Sadler). Rockdale's qb play was down with his separated throwing shoulder. Didn't help that the top wr was on crutches either. As long as FF doesn't give up bombs it's difficult to run it on them

Sinton ground game will give them limited opportunities on offense. I think Orange Grove offense had a more quick strike to them than what we've seen thus far and Fairfield falls into that category so game plan could resemble that game.

This main difference with Sinton over other teams that La Vernia faced this year was: On offense, Sinton is very good at reducing your number of defenders in pursuit. Then, even though one guy gets there in time to stop the play, their runners have enough skill and size to break a tackle or make him miss just enough to get critical yards. Their QB has unique talent at doing this. It is back breaking for defenses that are accustomed to getting off the field by making big stops on third and fourth downs. This is the biggest reason FF is facing Sinton and not someone else. They have enough size to counter smaller, faster defenses. That is why I give them more than a puncher's chance.

I don't think anyone said they think Orange Grove does what they do as well as FF but rather that they attempt to do many of the same things.
If I were to look at a defensive game plan, wouldn't it be at least somewhat similar to what was used against Orange Grove? There are differences. Namely FF is better that OG, and Sinton is better than when they played OG. I don't have a problem with that comparison. I'll save the praise of FF until this is all over. If they are last team standing, then they will deserve high praise.

No, I never lived in Raymondville. Have step family that is in that school system though. And, did see that game between you two. FF would beat Raymondville by 40 as well. I'm originally from SA. Live between Floresville and LV currently. Travel all over south Texas thanks to E-F-S. Seen several games. Never seen FF play, true. But, know the caliber of opponents they have beaten, and don't come close to what ya'll beat to get here. They beat a solid Navasota team in district, badly-- and I think they could beat Sinton soundly themselves. MP ranks them 19th and Sinton 174 in the state. This team is scary good. And, when I hear Daingerfield '83 compared, it really peaks my interest in them. Cause, that was the best team I ever seen.

Where you see I keep picking them to lose? Only game I have picked to them to lose was LV game. I had no pick vs. Cuero, though I started the Sinton/Cuero thread. Said it would be a competitive game. Only other comment I had in regards to Sinton, was when you played the opening round of playoffs, and I said your entire district would sweep. As they did. I am sure FF can score points rather quickly, but if Sinton can get up a score and get 3-4 yds per carry they can milk the clock. If that ends up happening in the game FF might not have enough time to put themselves 20 points ahead. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Sinton coach try and put together 7-8 minute TD drives.

Good. Crickets will be heard IMO. LV_Bearfan, yes Sinton took it to ya'll. They were fired up all night. More so, then the Cuero game IMO. But, I will also say, that was the Bears worse game I seen them play. Middle was open all night, to repeat that long TD pass you did score on. Another pass (same play) was dropped. Then, stopped going over middle. Bears were determined to pound Gill up in there over and over, when I would of had Skelton throwing it more. Get the Sinton "D" to loosen up a bit. Then run Vince. And, not sure I ever seen the bad snaps, YAC's by opposing runners on LV D, as I did here. I will give Sinton credit, but--I didn't see any adjustments made by Bears at half either to contain, and to loosen the Pirates D up by throwing it.

Honestly, I think the Bears won their Super Bowl when they made history the week before. It's tough to build that championship expectation when you haven't been there before. I can only hope next year the team's unspoken expectations will be higher. I noticed the difference during the game. Showing up to play is part of the equation. I was impressed with Sinton's mental toughness. I had never noticed LV players walk to the line after a huddle like they did in that game. Maybe they always do that, but it was striking to me. I credit Sinton for why LV didn't look the same. That's all I can do.

Quite a number of the underclassmen have contributed a lot this season, including some from the JV that have played in the second half of playoff games. I did not watch any JV or Freshman games this year, but I do know that this year's sophs only lost one game during their freshman year, and that was to Navasota. Not true. The JV started off playing pretty well, but several (actually most) of their weapons were pulled up to the varsity at one point or other during the season. The freshman group has great lineman and the skill players have improved dramaticly. The future of Fairfield football is going to be just fine.

FWIW: From Dave Campbell's TexasFootball.com:

Fairfield (14-0) vs. Sinton (12-2)
7:30 p.m. Friday at Katy's Rhodes Stadium
Here comes a statement that will either delight or disgust Sinton fans: I think the Pirates are the biggest underdog in a state semifinal. Now, that has very little to do with Sinton itself – QB Tyler Handson has been absolutely fabulous, and the defense really impressed me in the win over La Vernia, with LB Tracker Conn and DE Mike Huerta. But for one: Region III is a really, really deep part of the Division II bracket. And two: Fairfield is an absolute buzzsaw. Last week, the defense shined in shutting down an explosive Rockdale squad, using Devin Eggins, Jeremiah Simpson and Dedrick Garner to keep them from even breathing. From there, the offense – RB Larry Rose and QB Jacob Gallegos – did their thing. They are, right now, as dominant as anyone in the state at any level. Can Sinton pull off the upset? Sure, especially if its defense continues to play as well as it did against La Vernia. But Fairfield hasn’t showed signs of slowing, and it’ll take a special effort to derail them.
Tepper’s pick: Fairfield 38, Sinton 22

Sure, especially if its defense continues to play as well as it did against La Vernia. But Fairfield hasn’t showed signs of slowing, and it’ll take a special effort to derail them.
Tepper’s pick: Fairfield 38, Sinton 22

numbers, snotbubbles beliefs and region iv weak sayings all point to a win for Fairfield and Fairfield team will give it their best to keep this awesome run they're in but so will Sinton. Line up tonight and let the marbles roll where ever they roll :)

Ran some numbers for fun and reference. Here they are:

Avg PF per game: Fairfield (57), Argyle (53), Graham (48), Sinton (36)

Avg PA per game: Fairfield (9), Graham (9), Argyle (13), Sinton (20)

Overall Opp Record: Argyle (95-72), Sinton (81-78), Graham (76-85), Fairfield (72-88)

Good morning happy campers..... Get your game faces on its game day!!!!!

Ready or not here comes the boys from the South!!!!!!!!!!!

Safe travels to everyone involved. From Waco newspaper : “It’s a different brand of football in South Texas, so we haven’t really seen a team like them,” Fairfield coach John Bachtel said.

The Eagles’ offensive line will have to deal with a small and quick defense.

“It’s like 11 little missiles out there,” Bachtel said. “If we can get better at zoning their 4-2 defense, we’re going to be better on Friday night.”

I believe TexasFootball.com has had Sinton as the underdog in every round except for possibly the first. I'm thinking Sinton rather relishes being in the role of the "underdog" who comes out and shocks everyone but themselves. I hope you guys keep that going tonight. Best of luck tonight, and safe travels.

Actually, it is right. There were a few more categories I did not include here like each team overall record. Three of them are 14-0. Sinton is 12-2.

Also, I totaled the numbers and averaged. The lowest number is the highest rank in cases like this.

If you ONLY used the numbers I listed, it actually goes:

1. Argyle
2. Fairfield
3. Sinton
4. Graham

I did not recalculate for the few I posted. I only posted what I felt were the most relevant. Sorry if the numbers bothered you if you are from Sinton.

Um...actually no. You are not correct. First off, you don't give a higher number to the "best," you give a lower. Also, I did not rank overall record and overall %. That is overkill. They are the same data. And, totaling and averaging gives you the same result. The higher the total...the higher the avg, and vice versa. If you don't like the data, that is fine. Make your own that works out the way you want it to. I simply wanted to see what the numbers would say. Have a nice day.

Argyle says HI to Fairfield. I"ve only heard two teams all season where the opposiition said they are just on a different level. It wasn't Graham, Stephenville, Carthage, or Kilgore. It was Argyle and Fairfield. They can talk about DI all they want....oh geez.....the larger enrollment automatically means they are better. Give me a break!!! The enrollment difference isn't even 500 students for the entire student body....which correlates to very little when comparing quality football squads. I say get off the high horse and see things for what is reality. This is not 5A, or 4A. This is 3A. Some years.....a team goes D1. Another year, the same size team goes D2. Don't talk to me about Divisions....talk to me about dominance on the field.

So I guess I'm saying this to Fairfiled: Great seasn and great job so far. I am so impressed with your team and your season. Congrats to the Sinton Pirates for making it waaay further than most prognosticators thought. That team came alive and competed most famously. Kudos to them. But....the Fairfield Eagles are not pretenders against a weak schedule. They are the real deal. This team is setting records.....all time 3A records, mind you. I want to see Fairfield and Argyle play in a knock-down, drag out fight to the finish of who's best in 3A D2 this season. If Graham is better and beats Argyle tormorrow nite, then let's see that game. But I don't think so. It's before the game, and I'm sittin' here and sayin'......Argyle's the real deal, too. If there's a team that could upend Argyle besides Fairfield this season, IMO it would be this Graham Steers team. I think they are that good. But not quite good enough for the 2013 Argyle Eagles that willl win it all, barring a major iinjury to one of our key players. If that doesn't happen, Graham will have all they can handle and so will Fairfiield. You heard it here from me.....and I don't usually stick my foot in my mouth. Congrats to the Fairfield Eagles for just a great season so far. What can you say??? Except.....there is one game left, and there can be only one!

I'll say, Fairfield by 40.

Congrats Pirates. Great season. SB nailed this one.
