What did ya expect Pud. The ET should stand for EXTRATERRESTRIAL. FLAT OUT HOMER JOURNALISM.

Orrrrr, it could stand for East Texas which might explain the homerism...

Just listened to the pod cast on etsn. These two homers no jack diddly about La Grange LOL They said La Grange wont be able to put the athletes on the field like Carthage. These guys haven't seen the Leps play or even some tapes yet they make that kind of statement. Man I am so looking forward to tomorrow night.

Also think they picked against some of the East Texas teams...so can't be completely homer...

Nobody knows anything about La Grange except stats on Maxpreps...there's no video of them anywhere...I'm wondering if they really played those games or just won a flip;)

We are putting 4 D-1 athletes on the field, not including 2 sophomores that I feel will be D-1 recruits. Other than thse guys, we will put many 4.5 - 4.6 type speedsters in out secondary, and at the WR position. So ya, I don't think La Grange will put the athletes on the field that Carthage will...I hate to do this, but I gotta do it "East Texas Speed Kills". LG will know Friday night. Like my buddy C&C we are ike a hurricane coming in round 5, round 6 its a full blown tornado!

The two safeties are 2 of the 4 D1 athletes, oh ya they also play WR. La Grange also has speed and will put athletes on the field. In Texas hurricanes come from the south and there is one brewing. You best batten down the hatches the leopards are on the prowel. LEPS by 7.

So far this thread has determined that Carthage has 106 D1 players, LG has a balanced offense that's not balanced, both teams want it more than the other, neither team will be asleep and miss the game and both coaches have the best game plan ever put together. So now it's time for my prediction.

The difference will be the Carthage passing game against the LG pass defense. Carthage 37 - LG 20.

Haha...We Carthage posters have tried to go the humble route, but what the hell its Friday and we are playing in the Semi-Finals. Anybody who thinks Carthage is over blown or over hyped or whatever is sadly mistaken. LG will find out tonight that they are playing the D1 2013 State Champs. Game might not even be close. Dawgs by 20! You heard it hear first people. All season we have been doubted. Anybody still doubting this team is either jealous of what we have in Carthage, or just plain dumb.

Nice to see the surge of interest to keep this thread hot everyday until battle tonight! I think passing can make big plays & needed 1st downs for each team, however, I think it will comes down to ground forces versus air strikes due to precipitation. That being said, it comes back to LOS effectiveness. Thus, my vote goes to LG mammoths naturally! There's a new Sheriff in town, Barney better protect the quiet town of LG at 7:30 tonight! LG by 10. I guess its just game day thats got me all riled up, but I have a question for any poster who said Carthage is over hyped at any point the last 6 or 7 years. Its just honestly doesn't make since to me. 2008 - Champs, 2009 - Champs, 2010 - Champs, 2011 - This group of seniors were sophomores with Ed Pope and took Argyle to double OT in the 3rd round, 2012 - Region 3 Champs, 2013 - Region 3 Champs. What in the world would make anybody ever say we are overrated. If anything we are underrated by everybody every year. I posted on the Ville / Kilgore thread cause the Ville posters kept saying the haven't lost to a 3a team since 2010, so I looked up Carthage vs 3a competition the last 6 seasons since 2008. We have lost to 4 3a teams in that span. CH twice in 2010 and 2011 when they went to state and one state in back to back season, Argyle in 2011 when they played for state, and El Campo last year their first season droppin down from 4a, and BTW they played in the Championship. I just don't see how anybody could ever use this as an excuse why Carthage would get beat. Carthage rarely gets beat by 3a teams, and when they do they are legit teams. Could LG beat Carthage; sure, but don't give this BS excuse. Ok...Rant over. BTW, this is not directd at any one poster, it just comes from an accumulation over the last 2 seasons when Carthage has supposedly been over rated.

The 2 main areas we have struggled on this season have been kickoff coverage and goalline offense. I would have said defense early in the season, but during district play, and playoffs it has been one of our strengths. We will know more about our defensive line after tonight. We will be facing a stout OL, and this will be a gauge as to how far they have really come.

Still here Pappa. Had to go into Austin early this AM for a doctor's appointment. Mrs. Pudlugger and I are taking the charter bus to Mansfield leaving at 2PM. I did this last time in 2009 when we played Carthage at Midlothian. Hope we win this time. Last time on the way home a drunk driving thee wrong way hit our bus in the side and the one behind us head on just south of Cameron at 1AM. No one was hurt bad but we all had to hitch rides with the other buses. I road home with the team and it was pretty silent all the way. Got home at 4:30AM. Friday the 13th lucky day for the Leps!

Perhaps the warmth of Jerry World located next door had leverage! ha, ha! Likely had something to do with who won the toss(Dawgs)!? I agree that the sunken Bearcat field was a better midpoint to handle this final 4 matchup! LG has good memories from Sam in late 90's when we beat Corrugan- Camden in 3 OT's in final 8 I believe:Irony, Lawrence Dobbins(JK's daddy- fasted guy out of all A's in 100 that year with times)put a pop on right sweep tailback- loaf of bread went vertical- Dobbins took it 80+ yards for weird but exciting, nerve racking victory! I appreciate Buff support as we have backed you when Carthage has been on the platter. Hope to win this for all of Fayette & Lee counties. LG has Gameface on- victory by 10.

LOL, you a funny guy gameface. As big as our rivalry is, I'm backing you guys. Go kick some dogs around and get home safely. It will take LG's best game to win this, but with a good game plan it CAN HAPPEN!!!!

No doubt more talent in red tonight, we get the ball first in second half and if we do drive it down and score it could get ugly. The mismatch at WR and our DB's was just what I was worried about, Carthage is doing some interesting play calling. If I was calling the plays for Carthage, it would be bubble screens all day. Also our running game has to pick up, we are not going to beat them with the pass.

C'mon think about what you are saying. There are parts of Region 4 that are just as competitive as the other regions, some schools bounce back and forth between Region 3 and Region 4 with each alignment. It is the southern and western parts that make the Region 4 playoff bracket a relatively easy path to the semis. You have the same thing working for you with the panhandle in Region 1.

Congrats to both teams on great seasons. Carthage was just a little too much.

Their offense reminded me of a team that I have watched a lot over the past few years... Not saying who, but they were pretty explosive. Who ever meets them in the SC will have to play some serious D, and will have to score on every possession.

They looked good tonight. Second time I've seen them, first time was in 2010 vs Burnwood.

I would like to hear from some of the La Grange posters, not to eat crow but say what you thought about the Dawgs after seeing them first hand. I think La Grange was a dang good football team, it was just to hard to beat a team with so many three year starters. A senior laden offense with size, speed, and quickness. Coach S and his staff are amazing. I have watched high school football for over fifty years and played for the Dawgs back in the middle seventies and I have never seen a coaching staff get a team better after every game. Most teams are as good as they are going to get after games 8 and 9, but not the Dawgs. They will be better next week than they were last night, I don't know how the coaches do it. They have been doing it since coach S got there. No matter who wins between Kilgore and the Ville, Carthage will be just flat out better than anybody else this year. I had to throw that in there for the Ville folks, because you know they will read this and wear me out ha ha. Great game and great fans from La Grange. Just a thought, next week no weather issues for the Dawg receivers. Could be amazing to watch Boggie and the Dawg receivers on a dry field and seventy degrees. One more note, as you could tell from the game last night, if you stop the run the Dawgs will throw, if you stop the pass, the Dawgs will run. They do both very very well. Oh and one more thing, how about the Dawg defense, they have been lights out. God Bless and no injuries. Now LETS GO DAWGS.

No need for any La Grange posters to eat anything. That was a good football team who kept playing till the end. I know it hurts, but somebody has to be on the short end of the stick. And don't go listening to all the BS about a weak region. You guys beat everybody they put in front of you until you ran into a better team <<<(not at all a cheap shot). Thats it. You guys thought you would win, hell why wouldn't you. If they true fans of a team doesn't think they will win then who will.

First of all I would like to say how proud I am of the La Grange Leopards. They had a fantastic season and represented D26 and region 4 very well.
Next congratulations to the Carthage Bulldogs. Best of luck in the state championship game next Friday.
Now I'm going back to sleep.. PEACE TO ALL AND TO ALL GOOD NIGHT!

Carthage is awesome! I can say with certainty that the Dawgs are the best 3a team I have witnessed over the 20 years of following LG football. Of course I thought our team would match up better than they did but heck what can you do against that level of play? I don't think Qb Boogy had an incompletion in the entire first half and his receivers were spectacular. La Grange had a great run but the road ended last night in Mansfield against a superior football team and there is no shame in that. Congratulations to the Carthage Bulldogs you guys proved that you are the team to beat in the SC and we in La Grange will be pulling for you. Speedy was correct that our weakness was our secondary against fast tall and talented receivers like #5 and #7. Our guys played their hearts out but the better team won. The one bright spot in my mind was J.K. Dobbins only a freshman with so much pressure on him from defending #5 all night playing both ways breaking two big runs one for 64 yards and a td in the third. He will be fun to watch the next 3 years. We will miss the seniors on this team but it is encouraging to know that so many will be back next year to continue the La Grange tradition. I have appreciated all those folks here on the board that encouraged and supported this team and all the gracious Carthage backers who know how to win with class. Good luck next week in Jerry World and bring that Trophy home to Carthage where it most deservedly belongs.

All what Pudd said & instead Dawgs have a heck of a team! Can't wait to view stat's. Proud of LG with running crew- esp. 1 st half, lots of smash mouth up the middle surges & controlled ball well up the middle attack 1st half. Our 2 Def. holds 1st half were huge to stay in game. Red is tough & pass attack strategy was hard to defend! Good luck Carthage!!

After seeing the QB and his receivers earlier in the week , I knew this would be a major concern for the Lep coaching staff. I said at half time if we could come out and score first then we could make a game out of it however that did not faze this Carthage team, they came right back and score and from then on it was pretty much over. You guys are very impressive as a team, my only concern for this Carthage team next week would be your pass defense. We are not a passing team and we had some success throwing the ball, had some guys wide open. I only say this because of who you are possible facing next week. If the Ville does not win and you face a running team then I say you win hands down however if it is the matchup most have predicted , then I say a shoot out. I would say you guys are a balanced team offensively , think that was cleared up last night. The Leps run end the same as 2009, what is crazy about last night the weather was almost identical to what it was in 2009. Congrats to the Leps and Good luck to you guys next week.

Did anyone else that listened to the game on KGAS think the announcers took a couple of low class shots at the LG band? I don't think I misinterpreted their statements both times.

I listened to the game on the La Grange radio feed and it was a great effort by both teams.
As the game went on you could hear the LG radio announcer's increasing respect for the Carthage team.
The Leps fought until the end.

The Dawgs are as good and better than advertised, not overblown at all.

Hats off to the Leps on a fine season, once again you represented our corner of Texas well.
It has been fun to following your run, it is a bit sad to see it end, but I think you fell to the eventual state champs.

Great game, great team, and Godspeed to the Dawgs.
All the posters have been a class act on the board.
I am pulling for y'all to bring home the SC.

GREAT POST!!! In all honesty it takes 1 to 2 plays to cause a 1 score game to ultimately become a 4 score game. When the Dawgs were up 14-7 and La Grange were on their second drive. They were moving the ball against us but on 3rd and 4th down I believe or maybe second and third, the QB missed wide open receivers on two consecutive plays giving the ball back to the Dawgs. Also the clock mismanagement before the half hurt you guys. Stephenville may not miss those open receivers but luckily Suratt and Co. have seen it too and will fix that issue.

I listened on the LG radio feed (I really like those guys, not totally homers with good football play by play saavy). It sounded like not only the speed of the Dawgs, but their power and size ended up being the tale. Hats off to both teams. Good luck to Carthage in the SC game.

The ability to score on 1 or 2 plays is a big deal at this level.

Our clock management before the half and wasted TO's on our first drive were key moments in the first half , we had a chance to close the gap to 7 at the half and then get the ball first in the second half. That there is one or two huge opportunities lost, not saying it was definitely a turning point on who wins but definitely lost opportunities to score and make it close. Water under the bridge , now get ready for some Baseball.

Totally outcoached. Playing inferior talent in non-district doesn't make you a good coach. Wasting timeouts because you can't get a call in when you're on the 6 inch line. Players looked confused on where to line up for a qb sneak. During 2 min drill before half you had no timeouts left and you're still taking time to call in a play. Defensively, you waited until Carthage burned corners 3 times before you Gave over the top help. Pressing man with no safety help want wise against #5. First time cates had to coach against equal or superior talent. Boys played hard. Should have put them in better position to have some success.

I think the success y'all had with the pass was more what Carthage wanted y'all to do rather then the inability to cover. That's my thought anyway force a mostly run team to beat you with what there least comfortable with

You could be right , if Kilgore continues pounding The Ville it will not matter about your pass defense.

Puddlugger is sheltered. Region 4 is a step or 3 behind the other Regions. Schedule tougher predistrict games to the North. That would be my recommedation.

Hollywood sure looks like a genius after this comment, Region 1 does not look any better then Region 4 today. Wonder what his recommedation will be today, open mouth insert foot sounds about right to me.

One other issue....late 1st Q. 7-7. LG stops Carthage and has 2nd and 2 on own 45. Stuffed. 3rd and 2...1 yd. Punt? Nope. LG goes for it and gives Carthage great field position (score in two plays by LG press man with no over the top help against their top receiver). Cates did more damage than he did good. Carthage was the better team..... but it seemed staff was out of sync. They rotated so many players defensively every play, no wonder they looked confused. Shouldn't be that way by the time you get to semifinals. Always heard Pudd or hook talking about how good cates was.... didn't see it. Prove it by scheduling someone other than Needville and Brrokshire. When Giddings was this good, go back and see who they were scheduling.

36 , give it a break . Coaching did not determine the outcome of this game , Carthage just to talented accross the board . Why even bring up Giddings , no playoffs last two year and has never even sniffed a State championship when Giddings was so called good.

I agree Hook! This is not a thread for Giddings to have glory- in 1951 when they won state maybe! Kate's brothers are good coaches! Starting to sound like Bull 36 is from pasture of complain!

That is not a SC game , I said SC . Pretty clear cut, LG has played in 2 Semis in the last 4 years.
