I'd be shocked if this is a good game if it happens. Graham is strong on both sides of the ball! Shut down Black, shut down Shallowater! And Graham has the D to do it.

Glad to hear it !! But next year we're rolling up the whole shebang and move east where the only "teams worth a dang", hail from !!!
Very hard to play 7on7 all summer and never get beat and then be undefeated in the regular season, and 0 (ZERO) points scored against us in playoff games and never have played a good team!! I think some of the teams we have played deserve a lot more respect from some people than is shown!! Just because some of us don't have long histories of state championships doesn't mean we all suck !! So bet all your coins on who ever you want to!! Graham by 28 !!

Shallowater better worry about Vernon. If they overlook them they might just get bit by the Lions. On another note, Graham will take this one with ease!

dont underestimate robert johnson II ... high caliber tailback that was a junior d1 verbal commit prior to tearing his acl last year. with that said , graham has a good defense that has only been tested by an average wylie team at best..still take graham but not a 50 pt blowout..

Graham hasn't been tested blah blah blah....ya know has anyone thought that maybe Graham's just capable of making a decent team look bad? I mean its the playoffs and we still haven't been scored on. We played a solid solid Vernon team and we were just that good, AW was early in the season , had it been later I think the game would have been much worse for them. Folks the steers are that good and going to keep proving so.

Wylie played has played Estacado in non district the last two seasons. I know lots of things change between non-district and they playoffs, but I just can't imagine that Estacado will keep this close. I would expect Johnson to break free for a couple of big runs, but otherwise Graham should hold them in check. Defensively, I expect it to be a long night for the Matadors. Graham can hurt you in several ways and I expect they will hurt Estacado early and often.

Ok there....I don't have to make a serious football post for at least another year.

I watched Lethridge end Sweetwater's season in a down pour up at Jones Stadium around
the same time. It was a bi-district game back in '91 or '92 I believe.

Anyway, Graham should roll in this one. I'd be really surprises if Graham didn't win by 21

Get ready for a big score! Steers putting up 50 a game, Matadors giving up 30 a game. And the Steers will hold Johnson under a 100 in this game! Steers only giving up 34 yards rushing per game. Get ready Mr. Johnson!

Graham offense, defense pound Matadors

FOR THE A-J
ABILENE — Estacado’s Robert Johnson’s 25-yard touchdown run with 3:01 remaining in the game broke the Graham defense’s streak of 15 consecutive scoreless quarters, but it was too little too late for the Matadors.

Unbeaten Graham (13-0) cruised to a 42-6 victory over Estacado in the Class 3A Division II regional semifinal football game Saturday night at Shotwell Stadium.

Graham’s stout defense, which came into the game without allowing a point in its last 12 quarters, held Estacado’s running game to a net minus-7 yards on the ground in the first half as the Steers built a 42-0 halftime advantage.

“They are as good as advertised,” Estacado coach Danny Servance said. “They are physical, fast and aggressive. They did a great job of stopping our running game. We depend on Robert Johnson for a lot of our offense, and they kept him bottled up.”

Johnson, who came into the game with 2,231 rushing yards and 29 touchdowns on the season, finished the night with 105 yards on 23 carries, but most of his yards came late in the game after the outcome was already decided. He had only 18 yards rushing in the first half.

While Graham’s defense was doing its thing, quarterback Ben Davis was carving up Estacado’s defense. Davis threw for 273 yards and five touchdowns in the first half alone. Davis finished the game 12 of 18 passing for 299 yards.

Graham coach Kenny Davidson said his team played about as well as it could on both sides of the ball in the first half.

“We knew we had to hit and tackle well because of Johnson,” he said. “We were able to stop his feet and made him reverse field. In the second half, we had to manage the game and make sure we didn’t get any starters hurt. Hats off to our players.”

Graham will face Shallowater in a regional-final battle of 13-0 teams at 7 p.m. Friday in Sweetwater.

Davis’ TD passes of 21 and 36 yards to Bryce Reeves and Todd Parker gave Graham a 14-0 first-quarter lead. Davis and the Steers continued to pour it on in the second quarter. Davis hit Dillon Gonzales on a 1-yard pass to start a 28-point second-period barrage.

Davis added touchdown passes of 22 and 30 yards to Derek Sides, and Dustin McWhorter tacked on another score when he sacked Estacado quarterback Jaleen Tennison in the end zone and recovered Tennison’s fumble.

Graham failed to score in the second half, instead sticking to a conservative ground game to run the clock.

Estacado’s most serious scoring threat before Johnson’s late touchdown came following a fumble recovery by Kashondric Hastings at the Graham 11-yard line with 2:26 to go in the third quarter. But Graham’s defense stuffed Johnson for a 2-yard loss on fourth-and-3 from the 4 to preserve its shutout for the moment.

The Matadors, who reached the third round of the playoffs for the first time since 2007, finished the season with a 6-7 record.

“That is a tribute to our guys, their intestinal fortitude and great work ethic,” Servance said. “They never quit. They never gave up.”
