This is what Mr. Padilla has put out. He is usually very close, and nailed it on last years numbers. how would this change the landscape next year? To me it doesn't change a whole lot, some schools like Gilmer for instance would be of the good fortune of being right at the top of D2.

Looks like the Rattlers will be one of the smaller Diviision I schools.

Yeah, I don't think that it matters as much.. I'm very interested in seeing who lands in our new district.

So with the division already decided in each class does this mean that only two teams make the playoffs in each district or are they still taking four teams ?

Means an increased travel distance for district games. And, (dreading it) we could be grouped with some Houston ISD teams. :vrycnfsd:

4aII D24: Smithville; Giddings; La Grange; Columbus; Caldwell; Bellville

That would be my guess anyway, Pretty much a traditional district for the Leps.

I can't see the number going that low for D2, unless that's where the split is in the number of schools in the new 4A. Either way, I think Gilmer will go deep every year no matter where the cutoff is. For a team in the lower half in numbers in 3A now, the talent at Gilmer is unbelievable.

If this interval holds true, Marble Falls and Wimberley would be out for LH.

I could see a 4A-DI Hill Country district with:

Lampasas. 1017
Boerne 986
Fredericksburg. 952
Liberty Hill. 950
Burnet 924
Canyon Lake. 888

This would be the best option as travel is concerned.

I'm thinking your district goes east...

Pull out all of the "valley: schools: Lyford, Progresso, Raymondville, OG, Rio Hondo, PI

So you have APass, Sinton, and Ingleside that are going north. Closest three schools to the north are Cuero, Sweeny, Wharton?

Pull out all of the south-of-SanAntonio schools: Poteet, Jourdantan, Crystal City, Lytle, Pearsall...Devine? That's six.

Go north again and you'd get Hondo, Navarro, Llano, Wimberley...??? Smithville and Giddings seem to make the most sense.

That leaves La Grange, Bellville, Yoakum, Caldwell, Columbus... Brookshire?

Tell UIL they can use the idea for the Hill Country district I came up with for free, I know they are busy and this would mean only 15 more districts left to divide up in 4A-DI.

Noticing that's not the full list... La Feria, Hempstead, etc. aren't on there.

But that's the way the districts will be set -- they'll start with the remote places (Valley, South, West) and try to minimize travel distances, then work their way to the north and east.

Argyle might be the smallest at 698. Celina will be d2 at 629 like it really matters anymore!

Van at 698 will be right there with Argyle as the smallest D1 team. It might not matter as much to teams like Argyle and Gilmer but for 98% of the teams out there it matters. Van just lost to Kilgore, if we were a DII team we would have played Gladewater. It matters. All 5 of Van's pre-district games this year were against teams with larger enrollments including 3 4A's, we went 0-5 . We went 4-1 in district losing only to Athens, a team with a much larger enrollment. Now last year we had a better team and went 9-1 with the same schedule but there is no denying that having a much larger enrollment is an advantage.

I know it's not in the valley -- that's why I put "valley" in parenthesis.

AP's enrollment is above Padilla's projected cutoff. It's even above Lyford's. I missed West Oso. I wonder if the UIL would be willing to do 5-team districts? Because that's 5 legit (no parenthesis) valley teams and 5 Corpus area teams. That would be kind of ugly to split off one of the Corpus teams to play in the valley, or split that whole Corpus district in half, sending 3 to the valley and 2 to the north...

Where are you hearing this from? 8*16 districts = 128 schools. I count 94 on theoldcoach's list between Padilla's cutoffs. I know he's missing some, but he's not missing 30+ schools.

6*16 = 96 schools, so I'd expect some 8's but mostly 6-team districts.

I read somewhere that they usually start out west and work their way East. It will all depend on how many schools are out west that will determine where the teams like Brownwood, Stephenville, Mineral Wells, Abilene Wylie go. These are all on that central portion of the Regional map. Will be interesting to say the least.

We all have to be prepared for the curve balls, fast balls, sinkers and sliders the UIL has perfected over the years. ;)

I agree it would be terrible to split Orange Grove off and make them do all that travelling to the valley. Just doesn't make sense but with the UIL who knows. This has been a very competitive district. Sending part to the south and part to the north would be senseless.
