That's if Graham decides to put their 2's and 3's in for the second half.

Sville was up 42-0 at the half. Given GR has improved in the last several weeks, Graham should have their way.

Glen Rose is very young and they are finally coming into their own as a team. Now is that enough to beat Graham. probably not but after last week I wont count them out until its over. Graham is as good if not better than last year and we are rebuilding. But it is pretty darn good to be Bi district champs in a rebuilding year. Just saying!

Graham would have to make some serious mistakes on every possession for Glen Rose to win this one. Glen Rose has a lot of potential, for next year. Still have to play the game.

Steers sack Castleberry and look forward to Glen Rose

The Steers upcoming area game against the Glen Rose Tigers looks familiar to say the least.
Last season, the Steers beat the Tigers 42-28 in the area round at Springtown.
Glen Rose looks similar to the team the Steers faced last season in the second round, and despite losing several seniors at the end of last season, the Tigers have steadily grown into a team that can put up a lot of points.
They’ve averaged 34 points in three straight wins, and have given up only 17 points per game during the same span.
That doesn’t mean that the Tigers are without weaknesses, but it strongly suggests that they have improved after losses to strong opponents such as Fairfield and Stephenville.
Steers head coach Kenny Davidson feels like a trial by fire has made Glen Rose stronger.
“After their schedule, these kids aren’t new any- more,” Davidson said. “They can put up points. They’re a lot like us when it comes to the balance they try to have offensively. They can run the ball and throw it vertically.”
Indeed, the Tigers are averaging 151.4 yards on

the ground and 158.6 yards through the air, giving them 310 of the most balanced yards in the state.
Tigers junior quarterback, No. 7, Colten Lane is a passing threat, having com- pleted nearly 60 percent of his attempts this season while averaging 13 yards per completion.
With 12 touchdowns and five interceptions on the season, he has accumulated a respectable quarterback rating of 96.
Then there’s the totality of the Glen Rose offense, which draws from a solid contingent of running backs who get it done on the ground.
Hayden Holder, No. 13, leads the Glen Rose ground attack with 466 yards and six touchdowns.
Holder is averaging 6.75 yards per carry and 77.7 yards per game, while run- ning back Carlin Linnaberry, No. 18, is averaging 5.84 yards per carry.
Statistically, this duo com- prises not the core running assault, just the top two Tigers running backs.
In the receiving depart- ment, Glen Rose likes the long ball with four of the top five receivers aver- aging over 15 yards per catch.
Holder leads the team in receiving yards, but it is Colton Bumpas, No. 5, who you really have to watch out for.
Bumpas has a team-lead- ing seven touchdown re- ceptions amid only 25 total receptions this season.
Defensively, the Tigers have forced 19 tournovers. No. 30, Weston Clifton and No. 15, Kevin Uehlein lead the defense in total tackles while No. 25, Senovio Del- agarza has picked off six of the Tigers 14 interceptions. For the Steers, this second- round match-up is a chance to face some tougher com- petition and move toward the realistic goal of a state
title.
The Steers will be ready
for a bigger challenge after their 68-0 win over Castle- berry Friday night in the bi-district championship game in Mineral Wells.
The lopsided game was no contest for Graham, who stopped the running Lions easily and scored without resistance.
Ben Davis finished the game with 293 passing yards, completing 14 of his 17 attempts with four pass- ing touchdowns.
Nick Martin led the Steers in rushing with seven car- ries for 91 yards, but was sidelined late with a lower- body injury.
Dillon Gonzales rushed for 71 yards and three touch- downs, and also racked up 60 receiving yards and a receiving touchdown.
Weston Womack and Justin Escalon each had rushing touchdowns in the fourth

Spur Hearne brought down the Lions quarterback, led the Steers in tackles and ran a recovered fumble back for a touchdown in the Steers win over Castleberry.

quarter.
Bryce Reeves led all re-
ceivers with 114 yards on five catches.
Reeves, Todd Parker, Gon- zales and Hunter Baca all caught touchdowns.
Spur Hearne won the 94.7 F.M. Player of the Game for his work at linebacker that included sacks, tackles for loss and a fumble recovery for a touchdown.
Jim Bob Perry stripped two balls in the game, one of which he recovered.
The Steers need a good challenge after a lay-up of a
game last Friday, and I think that Glen Rose can give it to them despite the Steers being heavily favored.
Graham’s offensive at- tack has been impeccable all season, averaging 275 yards through the air and 237 yards on the ground.
That’s a per-game average of 100 total yards of offense more than Glen Rose, and the Steers are using that yardage to get the ball in the endzone.
Graham is averaging over 50 points per game while allowing right at 10 points
per game.
If the Tigers want to bro-
ker success against Gra- ham, they must approach the match-up knowing the Steers are hungry for for- midable competition.
Starving, in fact.
Regardless of how the game ends, the Steers have placed Glen Rose in the “formidable” category, and that’s how they are prepar- ing for the game.
The two squads meet at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, at Rams Stadium in Mineral

Steers use ground game, stingy 'D' to roll Tigers
Sports Staff
on Sat Nov 23, 2013 9:51 PM CST

MINERAL WELLS — The No. 3 Graham Steers used a dominating ground game on offense, while the defense was stingy giving up yards and points.

That spelled doom for the Glen Rose Tigers as the Steers cruised to a 34-0 win in the Region I-3A Division II Area round game at Rams Stadium.

The Steers (12-0) will face Lubbock Estacado next Saturday in the regional quarterfinals, but no other details were available at press time.

Besides notching its third straight shutout, the Graham defense flexed its muscles by limiting the Tigers (5-6) to just 68 yards of offense — 27 on the ground and 41 through the air.

And Glen Rose quarterback Colten Lane was picked off twice as Hagen Hughes had his sixth interception of the year and Mikey Freeze picked off his fifth.

“The kids are reading their keys and playing fast,” Graham coach Kenny Davidson said. “Our front with Dustin McWhorter, Husky Melendez and Colton Langley dominated the line of scrimmage and that helps.”

The offense also did its part, running 84 plays to 34 for the Tigers, and amassing 473 yards.

Most of it was on the ground as Dillon Gonzales rushed for 121 yards and touchdown runs of 1, 4 and 5 yards.

Quarterback Ben Davis rushed for 102 yards himself, while passing for 168 yards and a 6-yard touchdown pass to Freeze.

Justin Escalon added an 8-yard touchdown run and the Steers picked up a safety when the Tigers were called for intentional grounding in the end zone.

“It took us a while to get going,” Davidson said. “We had a bad snap and turned it over on downs.

“Both teams did a lot of running. The game went pretty quick for a Graham game. We kept the ball on the ground quite a bit.”
