Can a high school game have only a 8-minute fourth quarter if both coaches agree?
East Bernard played Hitchcock on Friday and and this happened. The Brahmas were leading 54-0
Never heard of this before. Seems like they should have agreed to let the clock run instead

Sweeny and KIPP Academy had it this last Friday for the 2nd half

8:00 clock in the 3rd and a running 8:00 clock in the 4th

The game was like 49-0 at half. We were playing our JV and they added 2 more TD's during that time.

Is this something new or has it always been around?

I think the option has always been there.

Actually, even though it is commonly done, the rules do not permit the running clock. We all do it and it has never been an issue with the UIL. The NCAA had a fuss this year when it was done twice in NCAA games. Officials were instructed NOT to do that but were reminded of the rule that permits shortening the quarter length. 3-2-2-a permits the quarter shortening. That has been the rule since at least 1989.

Because if they hadn't agreed to do it, the score would have easily eclipsed 80-90 points. It was 55-6 at the half and Sweeny was doing everything they could to keep it from being even worse than that.

Charter schools like KIPP have no business playing in the UIL. I give those kids credit for playing and sticking it out but there is literally no benefit by playing these games.

Most charters can't compete in football, there is a notable exception in 1A Div. II where San Angelo TLC is having a great year...
