Necks drive down inside the 3 and try a qb sneak from the 2 yd line.... Of course, stuffed.

Now, a fg attempt which is no good...

And for some reason they got the ball on the 20 yd line???? I'm so confused. I thought you get it where the kick was missed???

WC will be a beast the next 2 years. And I'm glad we won. But screw all that. The best part of this night was that burger combo that also included chips and salsa at Elmo's Grill! Wow!!!!!!!

WC defense showed plenty of life. I'm somewhat pleased with the improvement of the defense the last couple weeks. As for offense, we had opportunities against a great defense and couldn't capitalize. LM is a very good football team. If WC improves next year like they have the last couple weeks, we should have a pretty good squad next year. I wanna see equal improvement in the playoff games. For as disappointing as tonight was, there was plenty of good things that I saw. Offense will perform better, no doubt it. Congratulations LM. Well played game, and entertaining band. Hope you all made it home safe.

WEST COLUMBIA – After another dominating District 24-3A win, the Cougars now have a chance to win back-to-back league championships.
La Marque ran for four touchdowns and 248 yards and kept West Columbia off the scoreboard Friday night en route to a 31-0 thumping of the Roughnecks.
The Cougars (6-3, 3-0 district) face undefeated Stafford (8-0, 3-0) next week with the winner claiming the 24-3A crown.

Daquan Jones ran for 116 yards on 11 carries for La Marque, scoring a pair of touchdowns on runs of 10 and 18 yards. Ladarrian Ellis-Jones ran seven times for 58 yards and a score and completed 7 of 9 passes for 94 yards with an interception.

Kicker Ricky Guillen put the first three points on the scoreboard with a 25-yard field goal with 7:45 to play in the opening quarter and went on to hit all four extra point tries. Demetrius James scored for the Cougars on a 4-yard run with 4:04 to play in the first to give La Marque a 10-0 lead, and the score remained that way at halftime.

Jones capped a 63-yard drive with a 10-yard touchdown run with 11:04 left in the third quarter, and Ellis-Jones crossed the goal line four minutes later to put the Cougars ahead big, 24-0.

Darius Bell led the Columbia (3-6, 1-3) offense with 20 carries for 151 yards. But despite totaling 305 yards, the Roughnecks were kept out of the end zone.

I was thoroughly impressed with the fan loyalty in WC and that started when I drove into the parking lot. I rolled the window down and said "I'm part of the broadcast crew for La Marque and have video equipment I need to take up to the pressbox ". " Yes sir " the man said, you park up there in the front row :) "

Got up to the press box and the two guys helped me with my gear.....at 60 years old, lugging video equipment up a ship's ladder is not as easy as it used to be. Thank you West Columbia !!

That running back is a beast !!

Just a sophomore. He's been doing that all year.

Majority of the skill players on offense return next year. So next year things could be a little different

I have watched alot of RB's come through Columbia over the years, from Wayne Williams through to the Flannel brothers & I am truly impressed with what Bell has done in his 1st year on varsity. Any back that can rush for 150 against La Marque's defense is worthy of respect...

The game appeared to be evenly matched based on the boxscore.. WC couldn't seem to find the endzone.

Columbia's offense isn't bad, but they could really use a receiver that can reliably catch the ball. Too many dropped passes this year...

Game not nearly as lopsided as the score would indicate IMO. I think based on the tone of 1971 coogs, he'd say the same.

WC turned the balls over on downs a couple times in LM territory and got down to the 1 yd line 1 time. Necks missed an opportunity before half and ended the game on the 1 yd line as well, not that a late TD would have done much.

LM is a good team and earned a hard fought victory. There are a lot of positives we take away from a 31-0 thumping though. Not usually the case.

The single biggest improvement defensively is tackling IMO. Not nearly as many missed tackles last night as earlier in the season.

Also, fairly impressed with the play of #48 at linebacker. Had never seen him in there before? Who is he? Good looking lb IMO

Good looking lb IMOOne of the biggest thrills for any fan involved with a team they support is a rivalry match. La Marque has had a rivalry match with Texas City, Galveston Ball High and Friendswood for so many years it's like family.
I am proud to say being a member of this website has given me the opportunity to add West Columbia as one of those teams I now consider family. As I mentioned in a previous post, visting your stadium and witnessing the overall experience of your fan base is one of the main reasons. I look forward to following the progress of your student/athletes throughout their high school and college career. To me there is nothing greater than high school football in Texas !!
