After a great stand, the defense makes a huge error on that TD. How in the hell are you double covering a shrimp and give them that? That's just stupid. They undid all the hard work. That type of crap pisses me off.

Bullaholic

Cowboys have got to quit playing it safe and Romo and receivers are going to have to find ways to beat double coverages and get open and not allow Detroit to dictate what they will do on offense by default. Playmakers just have to find a way and the coaches need to tell them to do it.

No QB is very accurate when they get constant center pressure. However, Romo is particuliarly vulnerable to it and defensive co-ords know it.

Credit Matthew Stafford for two absolute rocket throws that were almost indefensible, then not spiking the ball as most everyone in the stadium thought but catching the D(and his O) by surprise to score on the sneak. He did what not too many qb's in the NFL could or would do....all in three consecutive plays from his own 20. That's really what happened, and his recievers caught the balls....didn't have to make great catches because the ball was on the money and in-stride.

In the grand scheme of things, the NFL is entertainment only.....it does not impact my life dramatically or even take away from other priorities like I allowed it to about 15 yrs. ago. Of course, the game has changed and the rules have changed the game, so it's just a different game in this era. The athletes are much different, too. Even the college game is not all-encompassing to me like it once was.....too much politics. For me, high school football in Texas is my first love nowadays. Many of you share the same sentiments. My son is 6 yrs removed this season, but my zeal for following the action across the state has not waned.

And perhaps I have changed a little over the years, too.

I agree with this and thinking you could cover Megatron one on one with Carr. Offensive play calling was horrid the first half also. I will say that was a great play by Stafford to end it though. Fooled everyone on the field and at home and in the stands watching.

This game came down to 650+ yards given up by the Defense. Poor offensive play calling and or execution. Very poor situational plays both offensive and defensive and special teams. First why is a linebacker trying to return a kick with 12 seconds left. Also why are we knocking a player out of bounds with less than 20 seconds on the clock. Just pull him down even if he gets a few more yards. let the dang clock run. Also offensively why hold on a 3rd and 14 when we obviously were just playing for a field goal or punt.
this offense needs to be opened up and play like they did against Denver and not this conservative crap!

I don't have access to network film because I don't record games, but for example, maybe you have access to it, but go back and look at Garrett and Romo after the Denver game.

Let me add, I suspect that could be a reason why Cowher and Gruden aren't coaching. Their style no longer fits the flower child mentality of the league. Look at how they wanted to oust Coughlin. People may not like the way he went about it, but at least Dez showed some fire.

I don't have a shred of evidence as to what Dez Bryant was saying in his sideline rants, but I'm going to hazard just a personal WAG. I think Witten was upset because Dez was jumping all over Romo for not throwing him the ball more during crunch time and Witten came to Romo's defense. I think Ware was just trying to be a peacemaker. Of course, we will probably never learn the truth, and maybe we shouldn't expect accounts of such player privy, but this one was ugly and sure out there in broad daylight for all to see.

He wants to win and is a bad loser. I get it. He wants the ball so he can help them win. He has proved he can go up and get the ball in tough situations. He knows it and they know it. Truth is they were trying to conserve the win rather than putting the nail in the coffin IMO. Detroit's offense can't score if they don't have the ball.

something has to change... at the beginning of the game it was nothing but run on 1st and 2nd and throw the out route on 3rd. Romo was playing scared and I don't know why. We ran right into blitzers all night. Romo didn't have a great game but why are we covering the best receiver in the game with one guy all night? O, he has 150 yards at the half but we are winning so apparently that is working... lets keep doing that... where are the adjustments? Is Manny Diaz the new DC?

If I hear The Red headed anit-christ or Romo say... "take what the defense is giving you" one more time I am going to flip out. It seems like every week in the o-squad meetings they must be saying "well we will know what we are doing after we get out there and see what they are going to give us." I want the Offence to dictate what the other team has to do on D.

PS... Get Dez the DAMN ball!!!! He was open quite a few times but Romo wasn't looking his way.

PPS.... what the hell was the last play of the game??? are we in JR high because that is what it looked like... Doug FREE scoop and score!!! right...

PPPS... on the lions final drive... we have 3 linebackers in the game covering the middle of the field... They have no time outs... they are not going to throw it to the middle of the field!!!

And ironically they are the best in the league at 2nd down run defense. How many times did we have good runs in first, to them get a loss on 2nd down. Its frustrating. If the guys on the radio know this, surely the Cowboys offensive coaches know this!? Right?

How about a play action on 2nd because ether were clearly selling out to stop the run. Frustrating.

I think alot of the problem is all off season it was turnovers need to be eliminated on offense and they have been so conservative...the one game they were not was Broncos and it showed they have a passing attack that can throw down field and work

Don't look now but the Cowboys still have to play Brees and Rogers...

I think you're right.

Here's the thing with romo. If you are going to have this kind of defense, you can't have the conservative romo where the game plan is dialed back to reduce mistakes.

You have to let romo be romo and understand that he's going to have some bad moments but he's also going to make some unbelievable plays.

I'm still going to repeat my old Cowboy mantra...You can't change defensive schemes and coaching every season, lose key players to injuries/contracts, and draft/trade mainly on the basis of athletic ability---UNLESS you are lucky enough to acquire a bunch of Sean Lees who have the MENTAL capacity and game savvy to absorb defensive schemes quickly , plus have the devotion to thorough game preparedness that he exhibits every week. Cowboys need some smarter and more dedicated hard-working players, and a head coach who will charge a price for situational unawareness, lax game preparedness, and indecision.

Excuses are just that. That win would have been a big one in helping the cowboys create a little separation. The defense was playing without some key players, and the offense without Murray. I was honestly happy Austin was out, but that was disappointing. Megatron had a career day, and it didn't help any that we had key players out, but that was still hard to take.

I still think that we ware back, amongst a couple others, that our defense is good enough. I don't undersand why our offense can't get going better than this. If it wasn't for the defense yesterday, the offense was that much worse.

This is the kind of statements I do not understand...Offense was not great..but also scored 17 points in the 4th Q and twice gave Dallas 10 point leads in the 4th Q and the defense gave up 24 points

how is the defense good enough? they have gotten torched by every decent QB they have played

I feel like they were putting things together, and then injuries hit. Without pressure on stafford, our secondary didn't have a chance against megatron. The defense has shown signs of coming together this year. my point was that if it wasn't for a couple turnovers and points by the defense yesterday, our offense was sputtering so bad early, we wouldn't have been in it in the end. I never said the offense lost the game, I am just concerned that even if our defense gets players back and puts the rest of the pieces back together, that our offense is looking like a let down waiting to happen.

Macarthur
10-28-2013, 02:02 PM
There's plenty of blame to go around. The offense was bad for 3 quarters. Shoukd have converted more points from the turnovers.

But there is no excuse for the defense. Hurt or not, 600+ yards is insane. And think about how we many yards they would have given up if they didn't get 4 turnovers? Detroit might have gotten. 800 yards! Think about that for a minute and let that sink in.

yet that offense you say is a let down put up 17 points in 4th Q and put Dallas in position to win..twice...your the ones who say the 4TH Q is where it matters

and what signs have they shown? The looked good against terrible Eagle team who only scored 7 against NYG looked good against a terrible Ram offense...and a Skin team that is up and down..against healthy good QBs the defense has been torched and badly..and I love the turnovers I really do..but you have to create turnovers and still hold teams to under 400 yards

Detroit had 623 total yards and Dallas had 286 total yards and the Lions won by 1 point. I can't imagine anybody thinking the offense was our bright spot.............. There was no bright spot for this team yesterday. But the defense is a mix of no-names and players just signed this week and a bunch of backups! What is the excuse for the offense? There has been no team in nfl history that has given up more than 3 400 yard passers in one season. The cowboys have given up 4 400 yard passers in a half of a season! And yes, the DL has some no names, but they haven't been that bad. Ware has only missed one game. Your lbers are both 2nd rounders. You have a $50 million cb and a top 6 pick at cb. No excuse.

Defense has given up lots of passing yards, however, defense is on the right track-best pass rush i've seen in big D in a while, and best pursuit-flying around-turnover creating defense in a while. Romo has come a million miles-gameplan against Detroit was great-gave us a great chance to win-no huge mistakes, try for some balance-4and 4 is not where I wanted us to be, but-we are in the hunt, and this team can be great, if it comes together and healthy. The problems with the Cowboys is Culture and not a talent thing. This team played the top 2 NFL teams right down to the wire this season and just couldn't get over the hump. They have lost 4 games against some of the best teams in the NFL by a combined 13 points and 3 of them were by a total of 4 points. It's always something with this team. If it isn't a penalty on the OL at the worse possible time it's a penalty on the DL or a holding on a Dback that extends a drive after they had them stopped or a untimely interception by Romo or the defense giving up a long completion on a 3rd and 20.. Something is always happening that prevents them from winning as much as they should. I personally think it's based on a lack of discipline and a lack of self control on the part of these players. The only reason Stafford was able to even try to QB sneak over the top on that last play was because he saw the Cowboy players not prepared for it. It's a defeatists attitude and it's contagious.... I've repeated myself a million times but the leader of this team has a long history of saying things like "If losing a football game is the worse thing to happen to you then you will have lived a pretty good life". And the owner has a long history of saying things like he did after the lose to Denver and he felt it was a "MORAL VICTORY". I don't care what anybody else says, this kind of thinking/talking breeds complacency and mediocrity. And the week in and week out robotic ramblings of J. Garrett is enough to put the entire organization to sleep. We need some life instilled into this team. We need another Jimmy Johnson type to come in for 3 or 4 years and start kicking butts and taking names............. Ok, I'm done!

And just so you know! I traded Andy Dalton for Tony Romo in my fantasy (gridiron challenge) team this week. So I do expect him to light things up on Sunday.

Just messin' with you TXB!

On a collectors note: I had a old guitar sitting in my closet for the last 15 years and just had it appraised by Gruhn Guitars out of Nashville Tenn at 10 to 12 thousand dollars "AS IS". It's a 1938 D'Angelico Excel that is in very average condition. Merry Christmas to me!!! I found a professionally refurbished 1937 version of this same guitar on Ebay listed for 17K. If it were you would you sell it as it is, have it refurbished and then try to sell it or refurbish it and hold it for the future? BTW: I don't play guitar or collect them.

That's right... I bet your new "van" doesn't get very good gas mileage but at least no more nasty hotels... :D Good luck finding a place to park it tho. Parking at Clarksville is bad.

My father-in-law had a older brother that passed away in Colorado about 15 years ago. He brought home a bunch of his brother's stuff and gave me 2 guitars and a big box of football and baseball cards from the 40's, 50's and 60's. Both the guitars and cards have been stored in my closet for 15 years. After getting this appraisal on the guitar I'm going to have someone look at all the baseball cards also. Might be a new bass boat just sitting in my closet all these years! :)
