might be a good game, especially if Graham suffers from "week off syndrome" and has a sloppy game.

Steers by at least 21 is my guess. Hirschi probably has the speed and talent to match Graham. But talent alone doesn't win games. Graham is a machine.

Have you seen both teams play? I am sure Hirschi has some kids more speedy than the Graham kids, but nowhere near the all around talent.

I have not seen any footage of Hirschi but know the kind of talent they generally have.

Graham, I've seen only video footage of this season. Watched 2 games last season.

Decatur was up by 24 in the fourth qtr against Hirschi. Score eded up 45-29. They have one really stud of a player and the rest are pretty good. Mobile QB with a good arm. Defense is what hurt them the most. Decatur scored at will through the air and also ran the ball on them. Graham should handle them fairly easy.

I'll be surprised if Hirschi can score 20, but stranger things have happened!! They do have a couple of real speedy guys but that can hurt too, it's a lot easier to cover a couple of guys than to have to cover everybody on the field, which is what Graham brings to the table!!!

I'm big on Graham this season.....they'll win this one easily. They should be up 21 by half, and from there it just depends on how far out in front they get before the starters are pulled. I'm saying at some point Graham will be up 28 points with the starters, and may end up winning by as many as 35-40 pts. Hirschi has had a great season and may have a few quality skill players, but against a top team those players can be neutralized.

Hirschi matched Graham’s three first-quarter touchdowns Thursday night.

But keeping pace with the No. 4 Steers for 48 minutes was a different matter. Nobody’s been able to do it all season and the Huskies tried but Graham ran up the ramp at Memorial Stadium with a 71-39 victory.

The Steers (9-0, 3-0) clinched a District 5-3A championship. They scored and allowed season-high point totals. Their previous best was 56 against Brownwood and the most they’d allowed previously was 20 against Vernon.

Hirschi (7-3, 2-2) would have beaten that in one quarter if it could make PATs. Graham, which led 21-19 after a lengthy first quarter, blew it open with 15 points in the final two minutes of the first half to take a 42-19 lead into intermission.

The only time the Steers’ first team was stopped all night was on a lost fumble in the first. Dillon Gonzales scored three of the six first-half TDs and the first score of the second half. That gives the 5-10 junior running back 22 TDs on the season.

Senior quarterback Ben Davis didn’t miss much of anything in the first half, going 15-of-19 for 173 yards and two touchdowns. He had nearly seven seconds to throw on a 13-yard TD pass on the left sideline to Gonzales in the second quarter. He found Hunter Baca for a 5-yard TD on the first possession after a Hirschi fumble.

Davis finished 22-of-30 for 278 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran for a TD and a pair of two-point conversions.

He said his team took Hirschi very seriously and has been able to stay in the moment all year.

“In the first quarter we had some third-down plays and fourth-down plays and that’s when some guys stepped up for us and made plays,” said Davis, who has 28 TD passes on the season. “Offensively, we didn’t overlook this team at all. They’re very fast and physical and they rip at the ball really well and cause fumbles.

“I think we came into this game with a good head and played good. We executed really well.”

“Their quarterback is tough, one of the best quarterbacks in the state, and he keeps his eyes open down the field when he scrambles,” Hirschi coach Cody Slater said. “The game was back and forth, what we expected. One thing I’ll say about our kids is we didn’t stop.”

Hirschi tried to stay in it early as LaKarl Williams hauled in a fourth and 10 pass for a 27-yard touchdown on a perfect throw down the sideline by Terrance Cooper to cut the Graham lead to 8-7.

But the Steers scored in succession on a 2-yard run by Gonzales, and then when Hirschi’s ill-advised trick, a reverse pitch on the kick return, was a treat for the Steers as Mikey Freeze picked up the ball and returned it 24 yards for a touchdown and 21-7 lead.

Freeze later scored on a 77-yard kickoff return in the third quarter to quickly cancel out a Hirschi TD.

In the first quarter Cooper came back with a 14-yard touchdown pass to Charles Brown after a 29-yard trick play with Williams catching a bounced lateral and then throwing deep to Cedric Battle kept the drive alive.

Graham’s lone first-half turnover followed and Cooper converted with a 1-yard dive into the end zone, although a two-point pass failed to leave it 21-19.

Davis and the Steers went 62 yards to respond and make it 28-19 on a TD pass to Gonzales.

After a good Hirschi possession resulted in a missed field goal, the Steers went 80 yards, converting a fourth and 9 from the 29 with a 27-yard pass to Bryce Reeves. Gonzales scored from the 2 on the next play.

Then a long pass from Cooper was picked off by Reeves and returned to the Graham 37 with 56 seconds left.

Davis then channeled his inner Drew Brees, taking the Steers 63 yards in 31 seconds and leaving two timeouts unused for good measure. He hit Reeves for 12; Gonzales for 6 and out of bounds; Baca for 25 and out of bounds; Gonzales got 15 on a great catch at the 5 and again out of bounds; and then the quarterback followed blocks up the middle for a 5-yard TD run.

Graham outscored Hirschi 22-14 in fast-paced third quarter. Gonzales scored on a 3-yard run followed by a Battle highlight-film 54-yard run and then Freeze’s 77-yard kickoff return, all in the first two minutes of the second half.

Battle scored by being alert as he was tackled but landed on top of a Graham defender at midfield and he got to his feet and raced down the sideline for a touchdown.

Battle finished with a game-high 143 yards rushing and also caught four balls for 60 yards. Terrance Cooper was 16 of 26 passing for 187 yards and four touchdown passes. Reeves had two interceptions against him.

The Huskies will almost certainly play either Kennedale or Springtown in the first round of the playoffs after finally getting their off week.

“There are three seasons, the preseason, district and the playoffs,” Slater said. “And for the first time since 2006 we’re excited to get to play in the third season.”

Graham will close out the regular season at home against Burkburnett. The Steers will find out tonight whether they will be in the Division I or Division II playoffs in 3A when the Iowa Park-Burkburnett game is decided.

Statistically, they are very close. Graham racked up 417 total yards of Offense and Hirschi racked up 402 total yards of Offense. Graham punted 1 time to Hirschi's 0 punts. Difference was Graham capitalized and took advantage of the turnovers better than Hirschi. Graham had 1 TO and Hirschi had 4. That's a 21 point swing. Interesting.

And Decatur beat Hirschi 45-29? Wow. Graham, you have some splaining to do. :D

Here is my view. Hirschi played a near perfect game. They had plays where the Qb scrambles and throws with one foot out of bounds for a TD Strike.. Graham gave them 14 points with turnovers. On one play Hirschi, has the running back tackled but gets up and continues to run it in... Kids saw him go down and let up. The video board does a replay and the stands erupt...The refs refuse to look at it..(Which I don't think they can use to overturn).. A coach even shows the ref a camera picture of the downed player...oh well...Graham defense had a few blown coverage's. But some where perfect passes that you could not have done anything about. Graham could have scored way more but went to clock management in the 4 quarter and second string.
Tonights game between Burk and Iowa Park decides Grahams path in the playoffs.

We had to play the freaking refs too!! OMG that was the most horrific officiated game I have ever seen !! Those refs should be ashamed !! When you tackle a player using just his helmet, ummm should have been flagged, nope !! When your team tackle a guy and take him to the GROUND and your guys get up and start walking off and their guy gets up and runs to the endzone and they call TD??? Your guy takes a hand off rolls left runs 40 yards and then the ref throws a flag at the line for offensive holding after the TD !! We kick off their guy drops the ball we pick it up and haul butt, nope rekick it !! And on and on and on it was the most pathetic officiating I have ever seen and nothing more than an attempt at keeping a game close !!! And we have the film to prove it !! The refs should be barred from ever calling another game!!! Shameful !!

Last night I'd like to have given them a pat on the back with a billy club !!! tons of touchdowns and even coaches using technology to state their cases to the refs. The game began with the Steers recovering a Hirschi fumble on the second play from scrimmage and delivering the first blow via a Hunter Baca touchdown reception on a pass from Ben Davis. Davis ran in the two-point conversion to make the score 8-0, and the first sequence foreshadowed an eventual blowout. That notion disappeared when Hirschi responded with a touchdown one minute and 41 seconds later on a 27 yard pass play. The teams alternated touchdowns a couple of times, and after the first quarter the Steers found themselves in uncharted territory with a narrow 21-19 lead. Graham’s second quarter proved the difference in the game with the Steers scoring three unanswered touchdowns to go up 42-19 by intermission. The Steers came back in the third quarter with a daunting three-play, 65-yard drive capped by a four-yard Dillon Gonzales touchdown run to put the lead at 50-19.
It seemed as though thewind had been taken out of Hirschi’s sails until the Huskies scored on a freak play in which the ball carrier was definitely down but never whistled down by the referees. After the Graham defense made the tackle and backed off, the Hirschi ball carrier stood up and took the ball another 35 yards for a touchdown. Steers coach Kenny Davidson tried showing referees photographic evidence from sideline photographer David Flynn’s camera proving that the runner was down, but the touchdown held. Davidson explained that he really didn’t expect the call to get reversed, but he did want the referee to know that the Steers had a valid point in arguing the call. “That was really just an impulse,” Davidson said. “In the pros and in college, it’s getting to where you can make the right call and go back and change things if you have it. Nowadays, there are cameras and videos everywhere. Even though you can’t get the call reversed in that situation, it is more of a reactionary thing to show them what you saw.” With the score at 50-25 after the questionable touchdown, Mikey Freeze returned the ensuing kickoff 77 yards for a Graham score. Freeze was responsible for two special teams touchdownsThursday night, the other coming on a fumbled Hirschi kickoff return that Freeze scooped up and took to the house earlier in the second quarter. Another play in the second quarter had Graham fans scratching their heads. On a Graham onside kick, a Hirschi player called for a fair catch and an inadvertent whistle was blown while the ball was still in the air. The Hirschi player did not catch the ball and it fell to the ground, but the damage was done. In all likelihood, the Steers, who had three playersaround the ball when it hit the ground, would have recovered the fumbled fair catch and retained possession, but Graham was forced to re-kick and chose to send the ball deep . Much like the first quarter, Graham alternated touchdowns with Hirschi in the fourth quarter and finished the game with a resounding, albeit goofy at points, win. The game was especially strange considering the yardage the Huskies were able to generate through the air against the Steers defense. Hirschi qaurterback Terrance Cooper showed a tremendous ability to scramble and throw accurate passes on the run, a trait that he hasn’t utilized all season. The Husky receivers also showed their ability to get in the air and catch the ball at its highest point. Graham did not expect to see that kind of passing when they entered the game.
“That quarterback, on film, had done nothing through the air all season,” Davidson explained. “Here’s what he did, last game of his senior year, he figured out that if he would just run around back there nobody can touch him.” Davidson said that the Huskies may have found some gold that they could use during the playoffs. Davidson added that he was proud of the numbers the offense put up, and thought that the Steers defense may have needed a game like that before the playoffs. “The 71 points is pretty remarkable,” Davidson said. “The fact that we gave up that many points and yards could be a good thing for us. Maybe we needed a wakeup call. You can’t let that overshadow the fact that our offense was on fire.” Three Hirschi late-hit calls proved what most people at the game already knew, that the game was a heated contest between two district rivals that didn’t particularly like each other on the gridiron. “Go to other towns that play each other every year, ” Davidson said. “That’s the way the game is. After thegame, both teams were congratulating each other and showing each other respect. I love the game. I love how riled up you can get and then shake hands and not harbor any hard feelings. I’d rather play a game with a lot at stake than a one-sided deal where you’re just looking for ways to get it over with.” Bryce Reeves was named the player of the game on the Q 94.7 broadcast for his two interceptions and strong offensive presence at the receiver position. Graham now has the opportunity to finish their regular season with a perfect 10-0 record, needing only a win over the Burkburnett Bulldogs to make that happen. The Bulldogs were 3-5 and 0-2 in district as of Friday morning, and their three wins came from games against Mineral Wells, Bridgeport and Krum. If the Steers can close things out against Burkburnett, they will be the first undefeated regular season Steers team since 2001. The Steers play the Bulldogs at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, at Newton Field in Graham.

I see where the refs missed the downed runner. At game speed, the knee hitting the carpet was missed. I'm sure it looked like he wasn't ever down because it looked like he rolled on top of the tackler without being down. They missed it, but I could see where they could at game speed and the angle the refs might have been.

Congrats again on the win and District Championship.

Y'all have a great shot at going very deep in the playoffs. Probably another semi match up with Gilmer. I don't see anyone in Reg 1 DII being able to hang. Good luck the rest of the season!

I like a lot of the new alternate uniforms but those by Graham are ugly...

Shameful !!

You are aware that a tackle made by grabbing the outside of the helmet is legal, correct?
