In reading the article, it is obvious there was nothing else this coach could have done to prevent this from happening. The only other thing would be to ask the refs for a running clock, and even then they probably would have scored the 91.

I heard rumor the Aledo player's moms suited up after half and were still scoring at will on Western Hills. And this is why the bullying complaint was filed...:evilgrin:

That would be more humiliating than the 91-0 score IMO.

Back in the 70's Celina was beating Blue Ridge 61 to 0 at the half. Beginning of the 3rd quarter everytime Celina got the ball the QB would do a quick kick to prevent us from running any offensive plays. After that game I will never forget the amount of Letters that hit our hometown newspaper from the people in Blue Ridge who were so appreciative. I have spoken to a few of the players from Blue Ridge and they laugh about it now, but they also appreciated what the Coaches did to prevent any further scoring.

Lets face the facts here. Western Hills is one of those teams that when you get up, they quit. The next argument I have with the way the game went was, Aledo put in 3rd and 4th team players who have worked their tails off and this is their reward when Aledo is up big. They get to play and they should never be asked to not play hard. I believe that for people who have actually been bullied, this is a complete misuse of the term and a shameful way for Western Hills to exact some kind of retaliation against a team that competed at a higher level than they did. If we are talking inequalities of a school district that is one thing, but until that becomes a factor for fielding a football team the best thing to do for that Western Hills parent was to teach their child that sometimes just get beat, and it sometimes gets ugly. You have to get back up and go at it again, or quit. This did nothing but drag Buc's name through the mud and maybe that is really what they wanted.

Next season the Aledo Defense can all step aside at the snap of the ball, cheer and clap as the Western Hills Ball carrier runs for a TD. This will make it all better and begin to heal the emotional scars that will probably take years of therapy for those poor kids to get over...... :weeping: :rolleyes:

Maybe we should encourage teams like Western Hills to watch the game predictions by Padilla or others and if they beat the projected spread, they are considered winners rather than whiners.

They were appreciative? I would have been down right embarrassed if a team started punting on first down..I would rather get beat 100-0 then have the other team basically say we feel sorry for you

I assume your talking about 1972 season? 89-0 was score..so they did not punt all the time after half

Him having 3 carries would not mean he scored a TD..Jones just said he had 3 carries

well the issue is..they are a team that has multiple backs..they are all used and I think at least 4 of them have 300 yards or more

Your just looking at the final score, but during the second half we kicked off the ball went into the end zone and no player from Blue Ridge tried to down it or anythng. One of our players picked it up and the ref signaled TD, next series, QB tried to option the ball in the endzone and ended up getting a safety, next series, fumble on kickoff return, ball in the end zone and another TD , another safty on QB sack, another TD on endzone fumble, cannot remember the other TD.

I agree you can't ask the third teamers to not try, and injuries can happen even more when folks aren't playing the game he right way.

That's why I think a mercy rule is appropriate. Say, if a team is up by 50+ at the end of the 3rd, game over.

As far as I know it would have to be agreed on by both sides and Im not sure if getting butt handed to you is a good enough reason to end a game early, like weather is.:D

Gilmer coach ordered the team to the house with a minute or two left on the clock back in the mid-70s in Sulphur Springs.

Bux were behind, but it wasn't an Aledo-style rout. For doing that, though, the coach was reprimanded by the UIL. Some fights had broken out, as I recall, and I think in the heat of the moment, he thought getting the players off the field quickly was the better part of valor.
