The writer continues in Part II at www.caller.com (http://www.caller.com) click on sports his opinions on Super Bowls 13 to 24. He said there were only two great ones but I thought the 49'ers victory over Cincinatti in 1982 by the score of 26 to 21 was a good game.
Some of my memories not necessarily in the article follows:
Super Bowl 13 Steelers 35 Cowboys 31. This one hurts to be remembered. Who can forget Jackie Smith's dropped sure touchdown pass - a perfect pass right to him and it just dropped from his hands. Of course even worse was the big yardage gainer they gave Lynn Swann on about a 50 yard pass interfearance penalty that even the NFL commissioner said no call should have been made. If anything Swann did the interfearance but Fred Swearington the official made the call. Coach Landry said another official was also responsible since he had a good view of the play and could have contested the call. Ironically Pittsburgh never erected a statue of honor for Swearington for that gift which led to a critical td. But don't worry Cowboy fans. Justice will even out and calls will go our way in the 90s! :)
Super Bowl 17 in which Washington beat the Dolphins 27 to 17 and John Riggins was MVP. The game was not memorable but what was was the next day when John Riggins passed out drunk at a special dinner honoring him. They do things first class in Washington don't they? :)
John Elway and the Broncos make it to three Super Bowls and get whipped every time. They will win 2 before he retires thanks mainly to RB Davis.
Super Bowl 20 where the Bears whip New England (yes one of the teams in this year's super bowl!) by a score of 46 to 10. This was the year that the Bears were awesome with Mike Ditka (spelling?and if so apologies)as head coach and Buddy Rogers (I think) as defensive coach (both didn't do good when they went separate ways). The Bears had a gag this year when they would be near opponents goal line they would let an offensive lineman called William "The Refrigerato" Perry score touchdowns. He had already scored one and the Bears were near the goal line again with the game well decided and they had him score again. Guess what? By overuse of this gag Ditka denied letting one of the greatest running backs in Walter Payton have a chance to make a touchdown in the super bowl (the only one he got to play in). Rightfully Ditka was criticized for this oversight and he did express regrets on his decision - too late for Walter Payton to get a super bowl td. This decision should go into the Hall of Shame.
