Anyone have an idea where I can find these numbers? I realize it's early but I figured there might be some foresight out there already.

Thanks

I think Stephenville's enrollment is about 1900 right now, but we'll be down to about 1000 to 1050 on count day.

I think somebody will probably leak the new 4A top number first before y'all report, though. I think y'all are sitting at about 900 officially right now.

He makes an educated guess based on data provided, typically we collaborate and share info and usually we are close

I think the top end of 4A Div. I will be lower than 1199...thats pretty high...my guess is around 1150 or so

Stepp, TXB or anybody else (except G2 since this is a serious FB question :taunt:),

With 3a (4a to be) going to a split-division format, how many teams do you think there will be per district, since only 2 will make the playoffs?

There will only be 16 districts, so I'm assuming each will have at least 7 teams each with 4 going to the playoffs.

Here is a list I threw together just to see what it looked like... I took the 96 schools from current 3a and 4a between 729 and 1100 kids. I know the projected # for D1 is 106 schools and a lower top end. I sorted them by current district and then broke them up into groups of 6 for a total of 16 districts.

This is all based on 12-13 enrollment #'s. I know this is probably way off, but I had it in excel and thought I'd share.

Thoughts?

That would make the most sense. But we all know the UIL has no common sense when it comes to realignment.

Everyone rips on the UIL and can put together an awesome district when just looking at their schools and a few other local schools...but realignment is one giant puzzle and just because you can make one district look good, those things have a domino effect for dozens of other schools...the UIL's job is tough and unless you can put the whole puzzle together one projected district is just well putting one piece out on a 1200 piece puzzle

I know it's not easy, but it made no sense for the UIL to put Needville in D25 vs D24.

Currently there's 47 football playing schools in Reg III and 46 in Reg IV..take Needville out and you go to 48 to 45...throws off the balance in Regions just a bit..

Yep you'd be in R II. Along with former Stephenville Def Coordinator Kevin Wilson @ Terrell.

:iagree: but to the fans in the area it doesn't make sense. We have been on the Region III-IV line forever. In 2012 they decided to split us up and we will adjust to whatever happens February.

There is an easy way to do this but I doubt the UIL has anyone thinking about this spatially. All these data can be imported into a GIS, D1 and D2 schools for each classification, then a spatial sort can be used to define a distance polygon (image an irregular circle or oblong shape that encompasses some given area) Say you only want a district to be comprised of schools that drive <200 miles, or encompasses a certain area (Say DFW for example). Any one of those sort parameters can be entered to spatially define each of the districts. Its the most efficient and direct way to deal with large spatial data sets, and that is exactly what this problem represents.

You'd have to enter in perameters to also account for schools being in the same ISD having to remain in the same district, for example of you just go by distance in 4A Fort Worth Western Hills and FW Arlington Heights would always be with Aledo, Brewer etc but because they have to be grouped with other FWISD schools they often play schools further away...also you'd have to account for opt ups which can throw numbers off as well...

I know the UIL has a computer progam they use which takes a lot of factors into account

All of these things can be accounted for using the GIS. My point is, if the UIL is not currently using such an approach, then they are behind the times, significantly. If they are, kudos to them. My guess is, they are still using some archaic Dbase 3 program because no one wants to deal with learning something new. You have an in there, ask them what software they use to manipulate all that data.

I bring this up because it could help alleviate some of the issues that seem to pop up every year. Will it solve all of them, no, but it may make some of them more manageable.

Matthew328
10-01-2013, 09:52 AM
I'll be sure to ask Dr. Cousins or Dr. Breithupt to see if they know which program is being used..

Here's a look at what Padilla's mock relignment for Region I looked like in 2012. By looking at how the districts were actually realigned, you can see that domino effect and that's just for one region (let alone the whole state).
