Amarillo is solid, but Stephenville's offense after some early struggles seems to be finding itself...

The Sandies are averaging 37 pts per game with the wing-t against some solid programs. Stephenville's defense has done well against the run the past 2 weeks. La Vega had some serious speed and broke 2 long runs for TD's. Other than those runs, Stephenville held La Vega's offene in check.

Amarillo runs the wing-t. I think Stephenville will find themselves in a battle the first half and will pull away IF the turnovers can be limited. So far, Stephenville has had a bit of the turnover bug. Can't afford turnovers against better teams and expect to win.

Really impressed with the team on Friday. I know there are still plenty of kinks the coaches are working on and La Vega is not a very good team this year. The Jackets did what you are suppose to do against those teams, put them away early. Regardless of the score this week, if we continue to see the same improvement we saw last week, we are going to be just fine heading down the stretch. Kudos to the players and the staff, keep that nose to the grind stone.

Offense did look much more crisp last week. I thought I was watching last years team the first 2 series. Scored 2 TD's in approx 7-8 plays. Then the game went weird for about 10 minutes. Flukie stuff. The freshman running back is a STUD. He's powering through LB's for extra yards and has great vision of space for the break aways. Stidham had his best game to date. Threw a 40 yard strike to WR in stride. Once some of the WR's settle in and learn to catch with soft hands, it's going get really good on the offensive sie of the ball. The defense is looking to be about par with last years defense at this point in the season. Could be better by the time Nov is here. More over all speed.

Can't leave the most important key to success out... the lineman played their best game. Both the OL and DL are big, strong, and continue to improve in technique each week. Looking like Stephenville is building to peak at the right time again. ;)

IMO turnovers are still an issue.
Stidham seems to fumble the ball.
WR's also drop a lot of passes.

The drive just before halftime looked an awful lot like last years squad.

I think all of 3A is hoping Stephenville doesn’t get consistent with their offense.

All 3 seconds of that drive? :) I am reminded more of the 2011 team than the 2012 squad. Lots of flashes of a potentially great offense, but makes lots of mistakes. I think that comes with the territory of having so many first year starters at the skill set. However, Aledo and Waco Midway are not at the other end of this tunnel.

I haven't been working in the Stephenville area long, but why can't they schedule ten games? Let alone some other 3a schools? When I played at China Spring we were a top 5 team and could still get 3a schools to schedule us without difficulty. Is it because Stephenville dropped down? Or are there other things that I just don't know about?

no other 3a schools at last reallignment wanted to play them.
they were on another level, and proved it.
now they're stuck this year with what they could get last year.
it's a tough schedule, they just dominated it last year (except for the mexico fluke).
some of the top 3a schools flat out said they didn't want to play them (celina, navasota).
even the 4a school in the dallas football classic opted to play cedar hill this year because getting their asses kicked by a 5a wasn't as embarrassing as by a 3a.

Yeah that's what I figured lol. They were a step up on everyone last year. I didn't know if it was because they wanted to schedule tougher opponents or if the 3a schools just wouldn't schedule them.

they will always try to schedule tough opponents (aledo anybody?) - the tough opponents don't always want to accept the challenge though

Not really, sometimes the truth hurts. That subject we pretty much beat to death last year. Once Stephenville drew the week 10 bye at the district meetings, they were out of the market for a tenth game. Mostly 3A teams ducked the Jackets, but Stephenville let some options go as well and from were they finished, there isn't much disputing the results.
