Johnny Manziel has once again used a huge performance against the Alabama to impress Heisman voters.

The defending Heisman winner retook the top spot in the latest HeismanPundit Heisman Straw Poll thanks to 562 yards and five touchdowns in a losing effort against the Crimson Tide. He opened the season atop the poll before falling off the last few weeks.

“His game against Bama was just what he needed to get back in the race,” said one voter. “He reminded everyone why he won it last year.”

Manziel garnered six first place votes and 20 total points from the weekly panel of Heisman voters. Marcus Mariota of Oregon was second with 16 points and two first-place votes. Alabama’s AJ McCarron (one first-place vote) and Clemson’s Tajh Boyd tied for third with five points each.

Teddy Bridgewater, last week’s poll leader, dropped to fifth with four points after a less-than-stellar effort in a win over Kentucky.

The weekly straw poll surveys 10 actual Heisman voters. It has been the most accurate Heisman poll in the country during the past seven seasons. It is released every Tuesday during the season on HeismanPundit.com.

It will be hard for any player to put up numbers like Manziel, only Manziel himself can beat him. If you go by just stats , he will win hands down. Most exciting player ever to play the game in a long time, sometimes you just have to give credit where credit is due. He just that Good.

:iagree: He hung those numbers on Nick Saban and Alabama! If Saban couldn't figure him out in 10 months, nobody will.

Ive been saying this for a long time, there is nothing to figure out. In this offense with his skill set, all you can hope for is to slow him down a little. You are not going to stop him.

I CAN NOT stand A&M, but the guy is amazing! No one has been able to take over and control a game like him since Vince Young. In my lifetime, I have seen 3 quarterbacks who control the entire game: Tommy Frazier, Vince Young, Johnny Manziel. Tebow was outstanding, but he was not in the category of those 3.

If he can keep his extracurricular activities on the sunny side, I'd say he's better than any other candidate right now.

Best player in the country, bar none. However, I think if he loses one more game he won't win it. He's already won once and if he doesn't show he's progressed and can lead a team to the SEC championship or at least finish the season with only one loss I think they'll try and give it to someone else.

The kid at Oregon is the only one that can challenge him, IMO.

I agree that Manziel is one of the best football players in college football right now. It will be interesting to see how the remainder of the season goes for the Ag's. JF makes other great players look mediocre.

The heisman ain't a team thing. But if they lose a few more, then it'll be tough to win it.

Many NFL teams reportedly consider Johnny Manziel to be ‘undraftable’

Johnny Manziel’s talent is undeniable. Texas A&M lost to Alabama on Saturday thanks in part to Manziel’s crucial interception in the end zone, but he managed to throw for 464 yards and five touchdowns against the two-time defending national champions. He also added 98 yards rushing. Oh yeah, and he became the first freshman ever to win the Heisman Trophy last season.

Despite all the aforementioned accolades, scouts have expressed skepticism over Manziel’s prospects as an NFL pro. One scout said he expects Manziel to be a “marginal pro” because NFL teams will make him throw more and will not be as susceptible to scrambling. According to SI.com’s Peter King, several NFL teams would not consider drafting Manziel because of his red flags off the field.

Manziel, in his third year of eligibility at Texas A&M, could declare for the 2014 draft if he wants to come out, which seems likely. (He can also stay in and play the 2014 college season, and 2015 as well.) But Manziel, to many teams right now, would be undraftable because they’re scared of his mood swings and off-field questions. But it only takes one team out of 32 to fall for him. And some team will, unless he self-destructs between today and draft day.

Manziel considers himself to be part of Drake’s Topszn Regime. For those of you who don’t know what that is, you can read an extensive explanation of it that LB wrote here. Johnny Football soaks up every bit of the spotlight off the field and does things like flashing his stacks of cash in the casino and enjoying a round of golf with the Jonas Brothers. Imagine what he’ll be like when he doesn’t have to worry about improper benefits?

Manziel should be a lock for the first round of the NFL Draft because of his uncanny athletic ability. However, you can’t help but wonder how high his stock would be if he wasn’t so obsessed with being a celebrity.
