Game called due to frequent lightning in the area. Port Isabel was ahead 14-0 with 4:15 left in the 2nd Quarter and was on Raymondville's 10 yard line preparing to score again when a close lightning strike sent the teams to the locker room.

Initially the referees were going to delay the game for 30 minutes, but when they looked at the radar, there were more strong storms moving into the Raymondville area. Officials from both schools decided to call the game and Port Isabel was declared the winner.

Of course, when people see the score they're going to think "wow, Raymondville played them close" but the reality was, it was about to become a blowout. PI was dominant on both sides of the ball.

Well I mean I'd hope it wasn't close. I remember when west Columbia played raymondville in about the 3rd round of the playoffs a couple years ago... Prolly the best team raymondville has had in a long time and it was like 57-0 at halftime lol

Wasn't it La Grulla y'all played? Or was that a different season?

Might've played them also, but the game I'm referring to was definitely raymondville

I think that game you're talking about was a couple years prior to the game against La Grulla.

Columbia played Raymondville in 2011.

Columbia has not played La Grulla in football.

We did play them in the 2012 baseball playoffs though. That series had a crazy ending....

How many players did the ump eject before calling the game? What was all the commotion about?

I guess it was a win with a kinda of a bye week feeling, huh? Just enough to get the players some work, but now plenty of rest too. They'll be ready to play this coming week, I bet.

Ya it was 2011, 2nd round. Raymondville lost 21-57 and finished with a 7-5 record. Not their best team IMO, mid-season they suffered a 33pt loss to a 6-5 district opponent. Their best year of late was probably in 2010 they finished 10-2.
